But the players we traded in for our 1st round picks the last two years are better than what we would have drafted, of this I am sure.

We've got our drafting pretty right of late. DBJ, Impey, Howard, Austin, Frampton, Bonner and Palmer. I back them in to find some pretty special players at 9, 19 and 30.
The players have achieved zero mate.

I am not going to fall into the trap of praising anyone until proven.

Dixon nothing so far.
Polec inj so won't judge
Ryder same deal.

You won't see the repucussions of this until the cupboard is bare and our aging best are past their prime. Its not that far off.

Cripps: "doing some calculations using the AFL points system, we feel like we are basically breaking even by doing the trade"

**** off, the points system means nothing you overpaid, under performing campaigner!

Remember when our promising back six went backwards on his watch - all hail the doublefist! - and we all rejoiced at him moving on at the end of that year.

And it turned out we'd promised him the role of list manager because reasons.

So key points from that:

1. Cripps values the AFL points system. Thinks that if we finish 11th, we break even
2. Reckons we will trade future picks in future drafts and it's a good strategy
3. Lobbe will stay
4. Ah Chee will stay
5. No other players trades this period however;
6. We may improve our draft position somehow

Given I have us finishing 10th at best (we are very much in the 10-14 bracket), there's not much margin for error to achieve our ambitious goal of "breaking even".

Seriously, from this year, when we finished 10th, North are probably the only team likely to fall, Melbourne and Freo will leapfrog us. We'll then be battling with Collingwood, Richmond, North and maybe Carlton for 11th spot imo.

No one wants our 13 players, what we can actually do about that? Everyone is screaming for something to be done, but how!?

No one wants Lobbe, Jonas, S. Gray, Amon, O'Shea etc....

Can you blame them?

For those who weren't listening, Cripps sounded pretty angry when asked about long term contracts. Says the amount of LTCs at Port are well below league averages.

Edit: Oh, and something like "you know the others who are on LTCs, Wines, Impey, Boak, etc, i'm sure the fans are ok with those". Though that makes it sound more antagonistic than his actual tone.
No it doesn't. He sounded like an arrogant arseh*le.

**** him off

A lot of melts on here (how surprising) but I don't mind it.

Clubs aren't interested in our under performing players, we can't force anything there.

Pressure now turns back to the existing players and coaches, they probably have the first 6 - 10 rounds to prove we don't need to sack the lot of em.

Thirteen contracted players that we don't want. Thirteen. You named five.

Not one trade out of that lot. That gives us a score of 0/13. How do you like that point system Jason?

Was it Rohde who was also dismissive of fans/BigFooty?

If you weren't wildly shit at your jobs (Western Bulldogs, Port Adelaide) you'd probably be viewed in a much kinder light.

Shocking I know.

So we'll have a $350k ruck who can't mark playing in the 2's all year, & O'Shea to play another 6-10 average games until the coaches once again realise he's simply not good enough.

All this against the high likelihood of finishing between 10th-16th. Can someone please submit an audio file of Jason Cripps with Benny Hill music in the back ground.:thumbsu:

A couple of things brought to light in that interview that Cripps and Ken aren't seeing eye to eye on a number of inner sanctum decisions.

So who is more at fault the guy who gave Harts & Lobbe the lucrative multi year contracts & can't move them on or in HH's case the coach who since backed down on his threat to trade him despite clubs like Essendon actually willing to take him & his ridiculous contract?

I thought he was closer to $400k-$500k? Not that it matters. A plughole's a plughole.

Ah Chee staying basically confirmed
Cripps said "it's looking that way"
Exactly what I was thinking. The task is to improve the list Jason not to break even.
He said that if we finish 11th next yr it's break even on using our 2017 1st rounder (presumably under the pts system).
He definitely was tetchy probably feeling the pressure.
After he'd finished i went pfft

Make one shit trade using reasoning which is utterly irrelevant to any team outside the northern states and which kills our chances of getting the talented young KPF we desperately need in the talls draft next year.

Keep all our overpaid duds.

Don't bother trying to pick up a promising plug-and-play mid like Barrett or a desperately needed back-up KPF like Black on the cheap, despite the fact that we've now fully committed to a finals run this year by trading out next year's first.

Sit back and twiddle your thumbs for the next two days.

Great stuff Port. Inspiring.

Ashley Browne has actually been saying that pick 13 will get the Gibbs trade done. Hasn't he been listening to Carlton, there is no was they are going to agree to that. And the players Adelaide are trying to offer are not enough either. The most likely outcome right now is that this will not happen at all. Adelaide do not need Gibbs that much.

You're missing the part where we have just traded our first round pick for next year! If this plays out how many expect with this list that has at least 13 players with no trade value (i.e. the 2015/16 status quo or worse), then we miss out on a top 10, maybe even top 6, pick next year for 19 and 30 this year!!!!
