Well, I just can't help it but I'll be pissed if we don't draft Ainsworth and yeah, yeah McCluggage is a very good consolidation prize but it's more than just their output out on the field for me. If we do draft McCluggage then I hope we get players with a bit of grit like SPP and Berry. Tired of drafting quiet, reserved players.

I get that Venables moves nicely and has a great burst of speed/attack on the footy but would we be talking about him this highly if he hadn't have had a good finish to the Vic Country game in the champs? I feel like his entire value is inflated based on a couple of minutes. As mentioned earlier this is a guy that averaged 13 touches...

Venables only played 3 games at the Western Jets in 2016 and 4 in 2015, injury and school footy has been the reason for this. The old he only averaged 13 disposals a game doesn't wash with me, as there has been reasons. An obvious one is that he did have little 'on-ball' exposure when playing for Vic Metro.

How did he go at PEGS when playing? I have yet to read any 'BF expert' provide this information.

The limited time I have seen, has been enough to show that he does have some strong attributes that would suit our needs. He is strong & explosive, a nice kick for goal and generally will deliver the ball well to position. The goal he kicked for metro bursting out of the square against WA was that of a class player and quite a few players that have been playing regular senior football for us for some years times are not close to capable of that. The majority of these same players averaged less than 13 possessions in 2016.......... just saying.

It appears that I will be one of the few that will not be upset if we select Daniel and can very much understand why he would appeal to our recruiters.

Best Case,
3, Ainsworth
16, Logue
21, Cedric Cox
22, Parfitt

Worst Case,
3, Taranto
16, Venables
21, Witherden
22, Brennan Cox

I can't really say I understand this thinking. I certainly understand getting a bit attached to players in the lead-up - I think that happens to everybody a little - but to say you'd be pissed off if we pass on one player widely ranked around 4-8 for a player widely ranked 1-2 just because he has a bit more of a personality seems a little odd to me.

Obviously our premiership team had some strong personalities and loud voices in Voss, Aker, Leppa etc - but it also had Simon Black and Nigel Lappin.

I think you'll find in the coming years that players like Keays, Matho, Hipwood and even Andrews will give us quite a bit of talk out there.

As much as I'm an Ainsworth fan, I've come around to McCluggage simply because of the fact we so rarely have ever had access to talent quite that highly rated. To have someone of his class moving through the midfield would be a major boost for our rebuild, whereas I'm not quite sure Ainsworth offers us the exact same thing. In saying that though, I would be perfectly happy with either of them. Or Taranto who I think might end up being just as good if not better, but I don't think that is going to happen.

Ainsworth averaged 12 touches during the champs IIRC... just for comparisons sake.

since everyones doing it, best case scenario if alot of cards fall our way, pick 3 mcluggage, pick 16 brodie (there is a seriously good chance with other team needs that he falls through), pick 21 isaac cumming, pick 22 berry or witherden, be an unreal outcome

Mmm bit of apples and oranges there. Ainsworth played small forward in the champs and only had one game through the middle. Venables was mostly half-forward and mid, yet they had similar tallies.

Furthermore, Ainsworth showed his worth through the middle late in the TAC season, wracking up high tallies and kicking goals, whereas Venables only averaged 12.7 at TAC (granted he was injured and only played 3 games).

For the record I'd be content with Venables at 22, but I think there will be better options available at 16

It's been noted before that the majority of players on our list are quiet types and I love exactly what Matho brant last year and just want more of it.

Maybe I had too much thinking time with my head in the pool doing laps. McCluggage seems like a quality person, good country farm boy and has an outstanding year, without a pre-season none the less. I emailed a mate a graph where he in the TacCup he is elit in all ar as bar one. It's more of a sum of all parts situation for me that's all. Could have also been the fact that it dawned on me that Ainsworth is also highly likely to go to the Suns down the road.

He was largely responsible for the W.A midfield getti g very cold feet in the centre square .He comes to play.

Oh The Places You'll Go is an amazing book. Perfect gift for Christenings, Graduations, 21sts, Weddings, mental breakdowns etc.

Great manual for life in general.
And for interstate draftees?

I was just pointing out that statistics don't tell the whole story. Both did play similar positions with stints in the midfield and it would be interesting to see each blokes midfield minutes. TAC is to U18 nationals as AFL is to state league footy. Quite are large difference and some blokes can looks good at TAC but struggle at nationals.

I agree with you on Venables I think he has some nice upside and would be hard to pass up at pick 22 if he is available. Not a huge fan of his but you can see he some tools that will translate very well to AFL level.

Ainsworth is a very good talent but you just can't ignore what McCluggage has done this season. While both have question marks over their game McCluggage I think fits our team a bit better in the long run. I'm fairly excited to see who we select with pick 16 more so than pick 3. Could be any number of players. I'm personally hoping it's Simpkin who I think could be the steal of the draft if he is taken at that pick. McCluggage and Simpkin in the midfield in 4-5 years time would be an absolute nightmare for opposition if they reach their potentials.
