Out with a hip flexor, on another note no Jamie Hampton invite to the Combine, could get him surprisingly cheap
A little surprised no tiziani - been kicking big bags in tac cup lately and was invited last year (is 19 yo)

Have you seen pics or video footage of those blokes pre-drafting, can't say I've seen pics of Cripps but the other two were "flyweights" ??

Those "big bodies took several years of intensive weights and conditioning in the AFL system.

I was standing next to Willem Drew 188cm 78kgs and Jarrod Berry 191cm 80kgs yesterday at the half time huddle and they are big lads for their age and will both probably play 10kg heavier in a couple of years.

Willem Drew at around our pick would be a chance and one player I could see us drafting...

Bio courtesy of Knightmare's draft board.
15. Willem Drew (VIC)
Best position:
Inside midfield
Height, weight: 188cm, 78kg
Recruited from: North Ballarat Rebels
Plays like: Jack Ziebell
Projected draft range: second round to third round
Rated last month: 12
Rationale behind ranking/change of ranking: Has displayed he can play different positions, and shown he has elements to his game that he typically doesn't get the opportunity to in TAC Cup games. Had he received more midfield opportunities through the under-18 titles, he may have had more of an impact.
Strengths:
- Stoppage specialist
- Ability to win first possession at stoppages
- Contested-ball winning ability
- Strong tackling
- Clean below knees
- Capable mark overhead
- Clean skills and can hit targets by foot
- Scoreboard impact
- Has acceleration
- Versatility to play forward or back as required
Weaknesses:
- Limited midfield opportunities through the under-18 championships leaves him slightly unproven against the best competition in the country

Look familiar...

Watched him closely on the weekend, other than kick a couple of goals, one from outside 50 he didn't do a lot playing as a follower, like his brother has plenty to say on field and when resting on the boundary...
Thoughts on him .....rookie chance .....development prospects?

Doesn't really look to have any outstanding attributes to me, does go in hard but, mind you that's the first time I've seen him play, hard to assess on that basis...maybe a rookie prospect?

State Combines now their path forward, reckon Hampton might get back into calculations if he performs as I expect.
Don't think Lyons will get drafted - more outside than inside but lacks kicking ability or speed to play that role at AFL level

Rookie I reckon or VFL, Hampton has something Lyons and Lever don't appear to have, explosive speed and X factor..

Could this kid be a "smokey", played a couple of Ballarat Rebels games in defence earlier in the season I didn't see, but gets an invite so he must have impressed someone big time?

Edit : Did a bit of investigation and he's also played ten games of seniors in the strong Hampden Football League for 5 times in the best including twice best for Camperdown, quick, great evasiveness and elite kick on both feet apparently. WA originally, moved South to further his football and job prospects, sounds like a switched on kid.

Very interesting to see Hampton's name lacking. Considering many phantom drafts have him around pick 40, as opposed to Jarman at a very late pick, could it be that the "know" he'd do exceptionally at the combine, just lacks defensive game? And hence they are hoping he'll slip through and whoever pick him up will look to develop his defensive attributes...

Conspiracy theory 1.0 ;)

R1 - J. Scharenberg - Mid
R3 - J. Hampton - Mid/Def
R4 - L. Cameron - KPD
R5 - B. Jarman - Mid/Fwd

On further perusal of that list of Invitees to AFL Combine how the hell didn't Jake Pitman get a gig, would have been a toss up between him and Jack Graham for SA's best at the recent U18's Carnival and only last weekend in the bests for Norwood in the SANFL A grade? I know he's only 177cm but he must be disappointed that not even 5 clubs saw him as draftable. To get a gig at the State Combines 2 clubs have to put your name forward, surely the 2 SA clubs will nominate him for that?

I have seen J Hampton two or three times has some X factor but shockingly selfish football, maybe a rookie spot but definetly needs a defensive game and give it first time not hang onto it like he does.

I jump at that X factor and and develop a team first attitude when he comes to the club

Absolutely correct is an amazing footballer. A tackling machine who has worked really hard on his fitness with outstanding results.

Does it become a bit of a tactic that clubs deliberately don't put forward the names of players they are looking at, outside of the obvious guns that everyone is targeting?
That's a real possibility ....but it's hard to hide players from all 17 clubs?

I'm wondering if anyone can give me some info on a few players:

Mitchell Crowden
Stefan Giro
Thomas Matsouliadis
Brody Trembath
Lee Minervini
Jordan Sweet

Cop the leap on this kid Mitch McCarthy talented basketballer turned footballer..[Tom Doedee, Josh Jenkins]

Has KPP written all over him......

Mitchell McCarthy
Ruckman (Dandenong Stingrays/Vic Country)
10/10/1997 | 196cm | 87kg

Mitchell McCarthy is one of those modern ruckman who moves well around the ground, and what he lacks in height, he makes up for in athleticism.

McCarthy didn’t play a game as an underage player on the Stingrays list in 2014 before taking up a high school basketball scholarship offer in the USA for 2015 only returning to Australia in December. At 196cm, he has been playing predominantly in the ruck this season, using his elite leap to combat taller opponents.

McCarthy has strong hands, which combined with his jump makes him a valuable aerial presence around the ground. He covers the ground well for a player his size and given his basketball success and athletics traits, there is no surprise he was nominated.

Injury cruelled his year as the mobile ruck began to impress in a number of games, working his opponent over around the ground and it is hopeful that McCarthy can take some part in the testing.

While he has not been exposed to much time up forward or back, it could be something clubs may explore if he is drafted.
