# 1 for me in today's game is kicking disposal, there is no bigger thing in the game ATM with the goal scoring of unforced errors
Cale Morton ring a bell #4 in the 2007 draft ......picked because he was the elite kick of the draft & Melbourne perceived that as a team weakness

Howd that turn out? ......73 games b4 being traded to West Coast where his lack of competitiveness saw him out the door very quickly

No .....you have to have a high competitive spirit & win your own ball .......no use having an elite kick if you can't get it

Equally, no point going in and getting it if you're a turnover merchant.

Obviously, players in the juniors who aren't winning their own ball have big red flags. But they've still got to have elite foot skills if they're going to survive. That's the way of the game nowadays.

Jack Graham with a major arm injury (shoulder?) today in the Reserves and taken to hospital.

EDIT: SANFL website injury list has him as 'test' (elbow).

Why do you say Willem Drew is of interest to us?
Inside mid with decent speed, big bodied, decent skill set, hits the scoreboard, I'd have no doubt he'd be among the group we'd be paying attention to because realistically we'd be chance at around our pick I reckon.

There's a herd mentality in that most Phantom drafts replicate each other to a large degree, and then some have a different slant, just to be different

Then late as those with an ear to the clubs hear things .....watch all the Phantom orders change accordingly and again replicate each other

The names won't change much, but the order will ......and there's always the late bolter that has a great TAC final .....remember Steel Sidebottom IIRC kicked 8 goals in a TAC final to be BOG and didn't he rocket up the draft boards

Likewise James Sellar started his draft year the arguable #1 draft pick ......and by draft day, if Adelaide hadn't picked him, could have slid to the 20's

What amazes me is when i read draft profiles i see things that are a red flag .....but it doesn't seem to change their rating, and yet after being drafted they fail???
Then i read Tippet's profile .....strong mark, aggressive, new to the game ....and i'm saying why was he rated so low ? ......what did we get him at #32? ...amazing

Rule #1 ....have to be able to win your own ball
Rule #2 ....have to have good hands ...one grab, clean!
Rule #3 ....have to project 2-3 years out and see the development opportunities

I dont disagree with any of this and I have similar KPI's that I look for when reviewing profiles/vision. My point is I don't think clubs lists change that dramatically late in the season, or at least those with good recruiting departments, the amatuer draft watchers do, as do the media.

I'm not sure they have to be elite with their footskills, you significantly limit yourself if that's what your after. What you do want to see IMO is a reasonable action, generally above average skills and decision making and general coachability.

Rory Sloanes a great example of this IMO, ?'s as a junior regarding kicking, but had a reasonable action, made good decisions and was always going to be coachable. Whilst he's not an elite kick now, he almost never makes any howler turnovers or is mentioned as poorly skilled because he's not only improved his kicking though hard work/practice, but he understands his limits re kicking and makes good decisions.

One of the issues we had with our drafting for a while was that we just drafted so many guys who fit into the below average kicking department. Similar with leg speed. So we'd have all these great competitors who were slow and couldn't kick.

Interesting...SA youngster Brennan Cox 194cm 90Kgs who performed so well mainly in defence during the U18 Championship chimed in with 4 goals for the Eagles Reserves.....looks like he could be a handy swingman.
Nippy small indigenous forward Tyson Stengle who also performed nicely in the U18's Championship also with 4 goals.
Ben Jarman 2 goals in the same match.

NORTH ADELAIDE
Goal Kickers: N. Dinham 4, B. Jarman 2, B. Helyar 2, M. Quinn, J. Hayes, S. Gordon
Best Players: J. Shannon, N. Dinham, C. Davey, K. Santillo, W. Patterson
EAGLES
Goal Kickers: B. Cox 4, T. Stengle 4, J. Press 4, J. Hayes 2, J. Westbrook, N. Yarran, N. Batley, G. Ellis
Best Players: J. Hayes, N. Batley, B. Cox, A. McPherson, J. Elsworthy, J. Press

Haven't seen much vision of Jarman yet, so can't comment. Doesn't seem like a pure crumbing type from what I can gather though, like possibly Stengle/LeBois could be? But I'll make an opinion of it at a later stage.
You do know Eddie started as a rookie pick for Carlton ? .....we rookied Charlie, that's the route i'd take as a replacement .....not the draft proper

Where did I say we'd be picking one up in the draft?

I definitely wouldn't be picking one up early. But with our last pick if it's late (where a Stengle type should be available)? Sure.

In my opinion, if you see talent that will fill a need in the future, you can't risk it sliding. Stay true to your values.

There's a bit in here...

All but two or three of those plays were handballs... that really turns me off a player quickly, when he's not willing to take the game on by foot...

But hey, I'll watch some other Jarman footage, see if it differs :)

Like the look of Stengle... Eddie replacement?
Spot on, I mentioned earlier in this thread that Tyson Stengle played one really outstanding game in the Championships and I can see similarities to Eddie as it showed in the highlights reel I posted of one of his Eagles games, certainly a different type of player to Ben Jarman, quicker, excellent crumber and a real opportunist with a similar defensive small forward traits to CC.

Anyone else see The big "Mummy" Shane Mumford in young draft prospect Sean Darcy???

I like the fact he wants the ball.

Now just on these ''highlights'' . While they are of interest they can only be of limited use unless you are going to games or the full games are available. Not a whinge just a point that highlights mean the laziness or the fumbles or the dropped marks aren't ever shown.

Very sure David Mackay had a great highlights package to excite people

Are they serious, some of those player comparisons are bizarre...not even close IMO, laughable in fact.

I find it hard to believe they've even laid eyes on some of this year's draftees going on some of those comparisons.

They probably haven't, it's champion data so it would be statistical rating.
