Wouldn't mind Powell-Pepper IF we're sure his kicking has improved, and that we can improve it further. He's very competitive and explosive, which we really need, but we also need players who can consistently hit targets.
Mmmm......read Powell-Peppers bios and got enthusiastic about his contested game ...then watched him, and i can't get this comparison out of my head now:

Mitch
Robinson

Kicking was good on Friday

No doubt they would have a good handle on how his kicking is going

Would play from year 1 .... Elite endurance and tough as nails with burst speed . Looking forward to his combine results

If he has Robinson's desire and competitiveness that couldn't be a bad thing, but skill level yeah I hear where your coming from

Haha a lot more class than Mitch

But Mitch isn't the worst player going around either , plenty worse than him
no, it was more a case of how smart is he?

No, it wasn't this it was ......is brawn compensating for brains

If we draft Powell-Pepper, I will microwave my membership (figuratively). He is a shocking kick and has weak endruance. He makes bad decisions with ball in hand. He's evasive and fast bit can't finish off his hard work. Would rather Will Drew if we need a big bodied midfielder.

Weak endurance ??????

Let's see how he goes in the beep and 3km time trial

He's already run a > lev 15 beep which would put him likely top 5 in beep at the combine

Looked on top of the ground on Friday so let's see how he goes

Haha...look forward to showing you his combine results. His definitely not top of my list but think he'll be something.

And really...'microwave your membership'? Isn't that one getting a bit old. If you're going to not be a member if the club drafts one teenager you don't like (I'm sure you've put in just as many hours of hard work as Ogilvie and the recruiting team and know every player intimately) then you're not a real supporter anyway.

It's been a knock on him since the u16s. Hes not going to run over a 14. It's either he has bad endurance or he just doesn't make an effort to get to some contests.

P.S. Less then 14 beep imo is weak for a midfielder endurance wise.

National Talent Manger Michael Ablett:
“He ran a 16 beep (test) at the WA talent weekend, he’s around about three seconds, sometimes I think he sneaks under three seconds, for the 20m sprint.

“He’s a real genuine speed, endurance athlete now."

Cal Twomey combine preview mentions him 2nd in those most likely to win beep at combine ' Sam Powell-Pepper is another good prospect with a big engine'

The kicking thing - I respect your opinion but I think he has worked very hard on that and I don't see it as something that will hold him back with his other traits despite it not being a strength

But way off Mark with the endurance thing - sorry

Didnt actually hear about his beep my bad. At the games ive been to he can look like he is in second gear when not in possession. This gave me the illusion that his endurance is bad and is obviously not true. My bad. Kicking will be his big problem though. Has improved but not enough to be AFL standard imo.

What is AFL Standard? Dangerfield? Crouch x 2? Kicking is the one skill they can work on. Desire , endurance , fitness is a good solid base to work with. Running in second gear may well also show he knows when to rest and when to go. As if he knows and can see the play unfolding ahead of him and be there when he needs to be.

For those who watch the draft more closely, if we're going to trade for a quality midfielder, would you rather we use this years first or next years?
For where we finished this year and will (hopefully) finish next year, this is the year. 2016 has been described as the most even draft ever without the absolute top end talent. 1-20 are like 5-10 most years. And it's very midfielder heavy. We may end up with a Scrimshaw or Venables or Taranto or Berry...or they could go 4-7.

Kicking the ball with consistency and penetration. He lacks both.

I think we'll definitely be targeting a tall with our first pick. We bid for Hamish Himmelberg last year and would've taken him before Milera if given the choice. We've also just cut Lowden.

There is really only one tall in contention for our pick I believe Todd Marshall but like others have said this is a draft that runs very deep with Midfield/Utility type youngsters that look fairly safe picks with some with the odd flaw that may be able to be tidied up in an AFL system as late as the 3rd round. Josh Battle who has played CHF/FF though not a true tall could be considered. There are several tall prospects in Esava Ratugolea and Mitch McCarthy I've seen play and whilst both are very raw, both have a lot of X factor so they'd both be worth a gamble...Mitch McCarthy could go late and be a real value bet.

Fox Footy will be running a highlights package of the National Combine this coming Monday 4th October between 7.30PM & 8.30PM for those interested in tuning in.
