Just not seeing the love for Marshall to be honest.

I think clubs may see the possibilities, but when the crunch comes may be happy to let him slide by.
I like his agility, speed off the mark and cleanliness below his knees and there may be highlights there, but concerns may be for a full game.

I notice you have Taranto @ #2 on your list. Is that in order?
Have you liked Florent all year or has he just come into prominence?

The Taranto hype is getting out of control IMO.

He's a good player, but does he have enough of an inside/outside mix when compared to the other top 5 candidates? No.

Does he show enough clean skills under pressure? No.

Is he a smart decision maker? Yes.

Does he get forward? Yes.

Does he get back? No.

So he's nudging the top 10, not the top 5. Oh and those frothing at the mouth about his 15 beep test clearly have no clue what that actually means. 15's great for a tall, not a mid.

Who are you liking as your top 3 targets with pick #5?

If Jarrod Pickett was in this year's draft would he have gone No 1?

None of this year's players can match his highlight package.

TBF, 15 in a beep test is excellent for anyone. The Lions Simon Black, who had fantastic endurance, best was a 16.1. 15 for a kid who has yet to taste AFL level football is excellent. Chris Judd in his time at WC recorded a 15.1. A level 15 beep test is generally considered elite level. Don't know why you are underselling it. As far as not getting back goes, that's incorrect from what I know about him. I have seen it written that his run forwards and backwards is actually one of his strengths.

He's a good player, but does he have enough of an inside/outside mix when compared to the other top 5 candidates? No. - Top 5 in the TAC cup for contested possessions (ahead of Brodie and McCluggage) so that is a Yes for me

Does he show enough clean skills under pressure? No. -McGrath and Ainsworth both have poor disposal. Brodie average. Bowles and SPS both weren't great under pressure yesterday. So I don't think he is behind most of the top 5.

Does he get back? No. - What mid in the u18s does (McGrath is primarily a back)? The biggest knock coming from AFL coaches is they have to teach rookies to defend.

15's great for a tall, not a mid. - As mentioned above 15 is excellent for a mid. Only 5 players reached that benchmark in last years combine. While it is only part of the picture of a players athletic ability it gives some confidence that he can be taught to 2 way run.

I think he will definitely go top 5 with Marshall/English no longer up there

That's very subjective. His tackling, contested ball stats and just overrall collection of work for the year says he can do it all.

IMO there are little groups in the top prospects.
1. McCluggage McGrath Bowes
2. Brodie Ansiworth SPS.
3 Scrimshaw Taranto Settlefield
4. English Marshall Battle Perryman
Myself at pick 5 my first preferences would be Anisworth 2nd Brodie 3rd SPS
Would also like Scrimshaw or Taranto, but feel pick 5 is just a little to high.

16+ is elite level. 15 happens every year (usually more than once) and is just one piece of data.

I'll rephrase: does he run the other way? Some of the top 5 blokes do (Scrimshaw and McGrath for example).

That's very subjective. His tackling, contested ball stats and just overrall collection of work for the year says he can do it all.
It's his outside game that worries me.

FWIW guys, my top 5 (in no particular order) without Bowes is:

McCluggage
SPS
Scrimshaw
McGrath
Brodie

Scrimshaw is not top 5 TBH. He is top 10, possibly slipping as far as pick 13.

I'm not really that big on Taranto either. He's last month of football has been pretty impressive. There always seems to be a player who has a big finish to season and rockets up the draft boards, guess that's Taranto this year.
He does spend a lot of time up forward and as a forward I really like him, great overhead and kicking around goals particularly good.
As a mid I'm not so sure. He does win contested footy and tackles well, but field kicking is just ok and pace also only average.
I'm start to come around but still prefer 3 or 4 others at pick 5.

What an agonizing choice between Brodie and SPS. Huge chance it's going to be one of those two.

Scrimshaw is not top 5 TBH. He is top 10, possibly slipping as far as pick 13.

Just my gut feel but think Scrimshaw does go top 5 or thereabouts. Has qualities that recruiters froth over. Tall mids (or players who have the potential to move into the midfield) are all the rage and recruiters will constantly be looking for guys who have the traits to be a Cripps or Bontempelli. These type of guys are game breakers are represent the elite of the competition. If they aren't having a great day in the middle they have the height and versatility to play forward or back and take a good clunk. Small guys like McGrath, Ainsworth etc. are good and all but they lack the ability to get their arms free up high and fire out the handball in traffic. Look at a guy like Caleb Daniel. He's a damn good little player but he has his limitations to what he can do. If he gets shut down he can't contribute outside of tackling pressure. A guy like Bont (who Scrimshaw has been likened too) has many strings to his bow and can break a game wide open in many ways. Anyway that's just my logic, I could easily be wrong.

I see the 5 best prospects on potential and chances of having successful AFL careers in this order.
1. McLuggage: Done enough to show he's a class act and hits the scoreboard which is a good sign for a young mid. Will start his career forward with some runs through the middle.
2. Bowes: Kid is a jet. Gold Coast are getting a beauty here and I hope they are kept accountable on draft day.
3. Scrimshaw: Like I said all the assets that recruiters crave. Will be a draft bolter and easily top 10.
4. SPS: Silky. Class. Beautiful kick. Can cut a game to pieces with limited possessions. Maybe concerns with "go home factor" but definite top 5 talent.
5. Brodie: Needs to tidy up kicking but does most things very well. Is a big body and a bit of a beast. Any team would be happy to have him in the guts.

Likely order (assuming Essendon keep #1):
1. McLuggage
2. Bowes (Brisbane bid)
3. McGrath
4. SPS
5. Scrimshaw (think SOS will love him)
---
6. Brodie

This is why I think we need to get pick 6 somehow through trades. Scrimshaw and Brodie would be a fantastic combo for the Blues. Hard grunt work from Brodie (similar to Kennedy from Sydney) and polish from Scrimshaw (similar to Bontempelli). Obviously huge call to say they will be anywhere near the quality of those two but this draft could easily shape us. Interesting few months ahead.

Hypothetically speaking, if we were to swap our draft pick no 5 for two later picks, would we be looking at two low teen picks in return?

What calibre of players can you foresee to be still available?

Does this option present better value given the midfield depth in the draft?

Great question, and one overlooked by so many, particularly those wanting to jump on the bandwagon of someone they
have seen once or in a highlights package, while denigrating someone else they have seen even less.
Inside types in the late first/second round range:
Drew, Clarke, Scharenberg, (Larke Medallist) Graham, maybe Venables slides?
Outside:
Gallucci, Bolton and my personal favourite Simpkin who is coming off LTI (broken leg) ....thought highly enough of to be on
the protein shake add with Ainsworth and co.
There are, of course, others who could be added to these lists...I am interested to see where GWS academy boy Kobe Mutch
"lands" when there is suggestion he will be left in favour of Perryman and Setterfield.

There is no guarantee the much debated and vaunted "top 10" will be better than these kids, so there is definitely scope to
add some "gold" from the second tier.
