This highlights package? If Jarrod Pickett was in this year's draft would he have gone No 1?
None of this year's players can match his highlight package.
To be honest that's not a great highlights package.

Since the combine was created in 1994 there's only been 5 players test over 16. I think your being a little strict regarding the word "elite".16+ is elite level. 15 happens every year (usually more than once) and is just one piece of data.
I'll rephrase: does he run the other way? Some of the top 5 blokes do (Scrimshaw and McGrath for example).
It's his outside game that worries me.
FWIW guys, my top 5 (in no particular order) without Bowes is:
McCluggage
SPS
Scrimshaw
McGrath
Brodie

To put it into perspective, If he gets over 15.07 he'll be in the top ten of the last 22 years. Id be considering that elite.
Was speaking to a part time recruiter before Sandringham played their first final. Asked him who he liked out of the dragons boys... Was expecting a drawn out answer with McGrath being his choice... Didn't even stop to think about it, "Taranto, other two (McGrath and Scrimshaw) are pretty even for me, and Florent's not far behind them".
Didn't expect that answer at all. Since then Taranto's gone on to dominate through the finals and the judd/Micky-o game, and his assessment has proved to be spot on imo.
Also, and this is just my opinion, but Scrimshaw is not an example id use for two way running/defending.
Loves to leave his man and go on a long run which is fine, but definitely doesn't love it so much the other way.

I'd agree with that, but the comments were made in regards to 15 flat or at least low 15s.To put it into perspective, If he gets over 15.07 he'll be in the top ten of the last 22 years. Id be considering that elite.
Because I don't think that he is going to be ready to play round 1 next year and a lot of the bottom teams will be looking for someone who will be ready to step up in round 1, and some teams might not need a player like him at this point in time.Care to elaborate on any of that?
Well reasoned, well researched response.Since the combine was created in 1994 there's only been 5 players test over 16. I think your being a little strict regarding the word "elite".

So, IMO, him being taken somewhere between round 6 and 13 is about right. I've said in the past, if we can get pick 6 or 7 and retain pick 5, we should be taking one of Brodie, Taranto, or Scrimshaw.
We could go all out for this year's draft and I'm starting to think we really should.
**** it, let's try and do this:
2017 1st + #41/Graham/Everitt to GC for #6 + #21 (they'll get #6 from Richmond)
Touhy for #17
2017 2nd to GWS for Marchbank (I'm really not interested in getting Stewart, Pickett, Corr etc because it'll cost us our 2016 2nd as well)
Go to draft with: #5, #6, #17, #21 & #23
#5 > Brodie
#6 > Taranto/Scrimshaw (I'd prefer Taranto but would still be really happy with Scrimshaw)
#17 > Venables (Venables could slide given he's missed a lot of footy)
#21 > Berry
#23 > Battle/Kerr
Adding in Marchbank, Brodie, Taranto, Venables, Berry and Battle with only the loss of Touhy would be a huge result. Of course it screws us up for next year's draft though but that's 7 highly rated kids. We could get a 2017 1st by trading our 2018 1st next year.
If we had to give up 23 and only take 5, 6, 17 and 21 to the draft I wouldn't be at all disappointed TBH. Id be pretty pleased with that.
Yeah I suppose that would be a pretty good result too. If one of Stewart, Pickett or Corr excels then we'd be very happy.
Absolutely, either way Id be happy. I would love it if we could take 4 or 5 first rounders/ early second rounders to this draft, and again next year. It would absolutely compliment what we did last year. I think hitting the draft hard and building the team through them is the way we should go, bringing in some DFA along the way. Someone like Jack Grimes this year I think would be a good pick up for 2 - 3 seasons especially if Tuohy goes.
Yep. Grimes would be a good pickup given he'd cost next to nothing.
I dunno about Grimes seems it'd be a step backwards rather than treating list spots gold, let's develop some of our own. Isn't that the whole idea of a rebuild?
Agree with that for sure but sometimes a quality individual (Grimes, Bartel) can do more good than harm for a short period. However, only if there is a position that cannot be seen as fulfilled by available youth. ie: quality stop-gap.I dunno about Grimes seems it'd be a step backwards rather than treating list spots like gold, let's develop some of our own. Isn't that the whole idea of a rebuild?
I think clubs may see the possibilities, but when the crunch comes may be happy to let him slide by.
I like his agility, speed off the mark and cleanliness below his knees and there may be highlights there, but concerns may be for a full game.
I notice you have Taranto @ #2 on your list. Is that in order?
Have you liked Florent all year or has he just come into prominence?
Heard from too many different sources that Brodie has some personality issues. (Does not mean he cannot play, but I would certainly think twice if I was an interstate team.)Would love Brodie at 5 if we could get him. He and Gibbs together would be bloody sensational.
The Taranto hype is getting out of control IMO.
He's a good player, but does he have enough of an inside/outside mix when compared to the other top 5 candidates? No.
Does he show enough clean skills under pressure? No.
Is he a smart decision maker? Yes.
Does he get forward? Yes.
Does he get back? No.
So he's nudging the top 10, not the top 5. Oh and those frothing at the mouth about his 15 beep test clearly have no clue what that actually means. 15's great for a tall, not a mid.
