Whilst reservations with regards to Scrimshaw are justified, we have to remember that he has had to cope with injuries which has impeded upon his capacity to both put on some size, and to build his endurance.

In terms of pure talent, he is No. 1 IMO.

He is a gamble, and we would be drafting him based on what he could be, but it could pay absolute dividends.

I'm also conscious of the fact that our midfield is rather depleted, but you can't draft someone on the basis of short term considerations. If we were to draft Brodie over Scrimshaw for example our midfield may be shored up in the short term and Brodie may end up being a good player, but he simply doesn't have the ceiling which Scrimshaw has.

Noticed you didn't use the word, "guaranteed". Good move ;)

It's just my opinion at the end of the day.

I'm sure Bolton, SOS and others concerned with player recruitment are thinking of every conceivable scenario, best to leave it to them I suppose.

I like your opinion, I also rate Scrimshaw highly. Don't think any of us will be disappointed with what SOS selects at 5

Dodoro gone back into his bag of one-dimensional tricks? :)
Sounds like Robert Shaw pumping up a Brighton Grammar Boy. It would be an amazing rise up the rankings for McGrath. I know which one I would prefer though- the good kick who is deadly infront of goals. I suppose the drug cheats need to find a Dempsey replacement.

Imagine if we had to choose between Brodie and McCluggage at #5:eek:

i.e.. McGrath, Bowes, Scrimshaw and Ainsworth go before us!!!
You wonder if it like in the film draft day and Dorodo has found out none of McCluggages team mates went to his birthday party.

No its not.. With the #1 pick no club will want to show the card that they are getting there 2nd preference.. They will want to parade Mcclugage as the best player in the draft, which they wont be able to do if they big on an academy kid.
If the academy player is clearly the best kid in the land and you'd be thrilled to have him in your team, you bid. That's 400 extra points that have to be found when matching it.

As it stands though, McCluggage and McGrath are the clear top 2.

There are rumours the drug cheats are looking to take McGrath at 1. Could McCluggage slip to 5?
See above.

I'm really surprised Jimmae "liked" that post ;)

Scrimshaw just looks such a talent and could easily end up going in the top 5, along with the likes of Fyfe, Dangerfield and Heppell who didn't really play midfield at the high junior level. Many others have failed though (all those failed hbf's we have drafted over the years for example). Could easily become the best player of the draft class and from what has been said, the recruiters believe he will be a midfielder at AFL level. That tells me he will go very high in the draft.

I hope either late in the draft or in the rookie draft we pick up an Betts/Garlett style small forward like Liam Ryan, Willie Rioli or Ryan Lebois.

Arrow, the thing in with these drafts is that unless you are a hands on recruiter you just can't know enough. Just enough to be dangerous. Best not to back yourself into a corner with big calls unless you are in the recruiting system. As a long time reader of this forum there was a guy around a decade ago who attended some TAC games and knew a little about the players that everyone asked for and rated his opinion on the draft. He was a good source of info but the dangerous comment applied to him as well. He took a stand against Pendlebury as not much chop. From that moment on, i'm sure he lost people's interest to some degree.

Make your points without bold statements otherwise like others, you end up disappearing!

Personally, i've liked your comments up until the point of trying to force your views.
Funny you say this.
I view draft time each year and the discussion and the phantoms that accompany it as akin to mug punters on Melbourne Cup day. Some do a little research and walk around with the fancy suit and the form guide in their back pocket looking and thinking they're on a sure thing and then there are others (like me) close their eyes and point, pick their favourite number/colour or just like the horse's name.

And in that spirit I'm betting on Taranto at 5 and Gallucci at 25 because I like their Italian names and the colour of their footy jumpers.

Wouldn't have a clue who we are taking. What I would like is:

5. One of Taranto/Scrimshaw/Setterfield
25. One of B. Cox/Sproule/Kerr

What about you Dane, who would you like?
It's not about what Dane likes. It's you Arrow, you.

Nothing wrong with the Italian angle :thumbsu:.

Any of the vigorous debate is only driven by people's passion for us to get back to where we belong. I think that is a good thing

Our recent drafts have been full of (night)mares . . .

Yeah, Brodie had an interesting game in the TAC Cup GF, I think he actually had one effective kick for the game, when he took a mark on the HBF and short passed backwards to Garthwaite in the back pocket, great kicking style
What's the consensus on this Garthwaite lad? Have seen him mentioned a couple of times that's all.
