Do not believe Brodie is a reach. Was considered #1 until injured (Essendon wanted him to play VFL). Will be a gun

I keep seeing that word "Was". Surely that should tell you something as to where clubs now rate him. The club will stay with its strategy, no matter when Cripps will return.

Barring any massive sliders:

5 - Taranto/SPS/Scrimshaw
25 - B. Cox/Bolton/Drew/Mutch/Clarke (Can't believe there is no love for this guy)
3rd + - Morrison/Morrish/Lebois/Poholke/Cameron/Junker/Bunker/S. Fisher/Williams/Jarman/Roughsedge/McLarty/Page/Sproule/Kerr
Assuming we take sps at 5 clarke is my pick of that bunch id pick clarke ahead of florent and some people have him goin top 20

If we rate him at 5, then by all means pick him. But it appears very clear that we (and the other teams with selections around us) don't rate him that highly. I stick by my thoughts that many recruiters would consider him a bit of a reach at our pick.

Don't change the strategy because one player gets injured

Kid was great when not injured will return to being the best after Sydney draft him.
We massively lack quality big bodied enforcer type mids (other than Cripps).
Sick of seeing CFC rag dolled and would like a Setterfield, Brodie or Scrimshaw type if Taranto and Mcluggage are gone.

Ok, well that seems like some better options. Perhaps if we do take the likes of a Drew, who is the same height, he could possible be that enforcer? He is a tackle machine and his clearance work is as strong as the likes of a Brodie.

We can not be reactive. Would we change our draft strategy if we lost a Gibbs to a similar injury? Stay the course

If that wasn't the meaning of your post - what was it?
It's really not that cryptic. I simply highlighted that with a conservative drafting approach we probably don't take the chubby slow kid from WA in 2013. We probably take a safe Victorian kid.

It's at about that point you started putting words in my mouth. You can stop now.

Can hear Fitzpatrick now ".....completely different set of circumstances". Be nice to have a Carlton person in the decision making show us a bit of bias just once. All that shitforbrains Collins could do was make things worse for us with that self-indulgent bullshit Etihad deal.

There are not enough likes allowed, so I had to add.......like, like, like, like....

I'd be wrapped with Ridley, just quietly. Reminds me of Kade Kolodjashnij with his kicking skills, cleanness and ability overhead. (Todd) marshall's the defence well.

We can't be making recruiting decisions because one of our best players will be out for 12 weeks in the pre-season. First year recruit can hardly be expected to make a huge difference at clearances anyway. Get Drew or Mutch (or someone like that) with our second and maybe they can play some midfield minutes. Stuff short term concerns, we need the best long term player we can get with pick 5, don't reach for a guy because someone else will be out of action for 12 weeks.

I don't even think we should be 'reaching' for short-term need with our 2nd round pick. Get the most talented player. Our list is hardly flush with talent.

There will be plenty of inside midfielders available later in the draft.

I agree (although I am hoping there is a guy with big body midfield potential with our second). If we start making recruiting decisions based on short term stuff like pre-season injury setbacks we may as well all select another team because this one would have zero chance of success.

Has he been injured or something? A few have had him going in the top 20, I may have just not noticed him.

I think he'll go earlier, but he may get to us. I think teams will really value how clean he is and how well he positions himself around the field; particularly in defence. Competent overhead and competitive too.

He doesn't fumble and he has the freak ability to gather the ball at full pace without breaking stride. His decision making is elite and you can't tackle him in a cupboard. Disposal on both sides is excellent.. handball is sharp.. awareness is extraordinary .he can make things happen before anybody is aware .
That's all great right but he has reflexes like Eddie and Cyril..a rare predatory swoop..his pace is extremely smooth and unreal agility.. he had had injuries but that means upside..

Yeah but he's only 181 and yeah hes from WA

Is he up there with Albert Proud in your esteemed opinion?

TheHeatleyStand said that Albert Proud would be a star and said that Cripps was a bust after seeing him play seniors for a year.

Take ALL opinions with massive grains of salt.

Basically we are all hacks and arguing over who is the best (least worst) hack. Which is pathetic.

Man, having the draft on a goddamn Friday night in November. Away for the weekend, but needed a place to summon my thoughts beforehand...

Where my expert knowledge of this draft consists of a couple of 2-minute YouTube videos, that's allowed me to make the completely informed decision that Setterfield will be the best player to come of this draft. Alas, due to some archaic rules where clubs can bid on players akin to a slave auction, it would seem that he is out of reach.

Yet as it now seems we'll be taking someone who just minutes ago, I learnt is a cross between Eddie Betts and Cyril Rioli, a comparison I am sure is completely true, I feel that my prior thoughts were meaningless and SPS will indeed be not just the best player out of this draft, but of drafts past and future.

Good Times.
