My main desire for pick 13 is that in 12 months time we aren't saying "hopefully the development this year in the SANFL will see him break into the side in 2018"

I'm not really in the mood for another season of reports from people watching the SANFL saying of our first rounder that "he's looking good"

Given the depth of this years drsft is he isn't good enough to play AFL next year, let someone else have him.

We need to start getting a sense of urgency.

I have absolutely no issues with him playing SANFL next year as long as our draftees play a good chunk of season in the AFL.

I have no doubt that given an injury free preseason, Milera will be playing AFL games consistently next year an Doedee will get a taste of it. As long as they turn into guns long term, I am very happy.

Brodie Smith with a far harder edge doesn't go as low as Berry is predicted.

That would be sharp end of the draft stuff
I agree, especially given most journos have also spoken about his leadership qualities.

From the little I've seen of him he isn't as quick (although quicker than Sloane) and not quite as bigger a leg. Basically he's a tougher, slightly slower, slightly lesser kicking version of Smith.

No, I heard Tex and Rory sold Faf du Plessis the lolly at the Alma for ballgate and we will lose draft picks for that.
Geez that's at least 3 yrs of first and second rounders!! fFS we should just hide and away for three days and gets 8 weeks.

I'll guarantee you his kick is as equally as penetrating as Brodie's kick and I've seen plenty of him.

Adelaide will head to Friday night’s AFL National Draft with its longest talent list in a decade, says National Recruiting Manager Hamish Ogilvie.

The Crows currently hold pick Nos.13, 43, 53, 66, 82 and 90 at the national meet in Sydney.

Read our quick guide to the draft

Ogilvie indicated Adelaide would use “four or five” live picks on Friday night, with ruckman Reilly O’Brien’s promotion to the senior list to be confirmed with the Club’s last pick. Another “two or three” players will join the Crows in the Rookie Draft on Monday afternoon.

Last year, Adelaide took only two picks in the National Draft, selecting Central District midfielder/forward Wayne Milera Junior (No.11) and Geelong Falcons defender Tom Doedee (No.17) in the first round.

Crows recruiters have had to do more research across the entire talent pool this year, and Ogilvie was confident the Club could capitalise on its late picks.

“Because of the depth, we’ll go to this draft with more players than we’ve ever had on our list in the 10 years I’ve been doing it,” Ogilvie told FIVEaa.

“And that’s good because we need to go and have some picks late in the draft.

“The talent right at the very top, is it at as high a level as other years? Maybe not, but there’s four or five (standouts) at the very top and then a group of another 10-15 who are very even.”

North Adelaide forward Ben Jarman remains part of the talent list despite not being nominated as a father-son selection ahead of the National Draft.

Ogilvie said there was still a chance Jarman, the son of two-time Crows premiership player Darren, could join the Club on Friday night, or as a rookie.

“It’s certainly not a decision we made lightly … and we don’t want to put Ben or the family through the pressure he’s been through,” he said.

“I understand the emotion … but we’re trying to do what’s right and make the best decisions for our Club. It’s tricky for us too … because we’ve worked with Ben for a long time and been discussing this, but we just can’t make decisions on personal feelings. We’ve got to weigh everyone up the same.

“Rory Atkins was pick 81. I’m not saying we’ll get a Rory Atkins in the 80s (in this draft) … but who knows. We understand where you’re coming from and the supporters are (too) but hang with us, and we’ll see how things pan out on the night.

“Ben’s certainly in our talent order. We’ll make those decisions along with all the others. He’s a good lad and we’ll see how it goes.”

The midfield is viewed as an area of need following the departures of Patrick Dangerfield and Jarryd Lyons in recent years, and with two-time Club Champion Scott Thompson being in the latter stages of his career.

The 2016 talent pool has been described as a ‘midfielders’ draft, but Ogilvie said that didn’t guarantee the Crows would focus solely on onballers.

“The general philosophy is always to trade for needs and draft for the future, so we’re going to stay really true to the talent order and pick the next-best available (player),” he said.

“Having said that, if you pick two talls (with your early picks) you need to start balance off later in the draft with a bit of need.”

Speed has also been identified as possible need to address, but Ogilvie was confident the Club had already gone a way towards adding pace to the playing group.

“We brought in some speed last year with Hampton, Seedsman, Menzel and Milera, so speed is not the be all and end all,” he said.

“If you can get a mid with speed or a tall who can play forward or back with speed that would be a bonus, but we’re not hell bent on speed – we’re hell bent on great players and people.”

Brodie has the best 1 step kick in the game, thats a big call.

For me I will go with what I've already posted.

I want potential and that point of difference in a player. I changed my vote very early from Venables to SPP. To me I couldn't go past SPP because he shows a bit of difference. No SPP is not a 13 pick as there is high risk. It's also a pick that goes further out for him.

I think the media BS re Cox is also just that. There is not enough info re him for me to judge.

I want talent at pick 13. I am sure we will get that.

Most importantly I don't give a hoot who PAFC draft. Just don't compare or stress about their pick.

I really have faith in Hamish & team.

After reading Haggis's quotes I'm coming around to Todd Marshall being very much in play for Pick 13 with the depth of midfield talent that will still be available at Pick 43 and later, if we do go with a midfielder at 13 I reckon Zach Sproule will be in play with Pick 43?

The only way I'll be somewhat disappointed is if we draft Marshall. We need midfield talent sooner than we need KPF talent. I definitely like him as a prospect, though.

Do think it's a good idea to go taller later in the draft, though.

You can just see Brodie or Berry fitting in perfectly next to Sloane. Not sure the other names mentioned can?
Bicks

I thought Berry was a running half back flanker?

Surely we are after geniune mids, not flanker/project mids.

I wish we could trade down from 13. I'm sure it will happen one day soon, but in this draft, as Hamish seems to confirm, there just isn't really anyone who stands out in the predicted top 20. I'm sure a couple will end up OK but gee they look pretty vanilla. Trading down and having 2 picks in the twenties and maybe getting Powell Pepper and Cox would seem like a great move for us this year.

Makes the Smears trade period strategy of trading down seem pretty sound actually

But KPF take longer to develop so you bank them as soon as you can.

People keep on bragging on about needing midfielders but the club has a greater understanding of our SANFL players and their development projections than the fans. Remember this time last year McGovern was a delistee at the end of this season but now he is in the best 22.

People have written off Milera as too slight, Hampton and Menzel. I suspect the club very much has these guys well within their planning for next year's team with another preseason under their belt.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if we went KPF with 13 and then a midfielder at 43.

Having said that, we are not going to pick a tall just because they are tall. If we rate them as the best prospect at 13, we will pull the trigger. We have a history of going against popular opinion and Mock drafts. Last year we bid on Himmelberg when many considered it a reach and picked Doedee when everyone was asking Who?!

Champion data rate Brodie Smith's kicking short as poor, below average.

He's OK when he roosts it, but his kicking is a mixed bag
Especially in Prelims

His kicking off a step is as good as there is. Agree though his short passing is questionable at best.
