Don't think Hayward's there. Reckon it's between Berry and Brodie if he's still there, as it sounds like we like Berry more than Venables.
Yeah I think the Venables dream is over unless we have been playing superb ducks and drakes

Powell - Pepper unlikely

Brodie , Hayward and Berry are the boys

just briefly what are the main reasons Berry is a realistic chance to be there at our pick?

sounds Lever-like upstairs, are the guys ahead of him just that more exciting or do people tend to overlook those "interview" qualities when they're drawing up phantoms?
2016 output was below expectations after a strong bottom age year - partly injury related and lack of continuity and ability to settle in the one position

Seems to happen every year where guys on sharp upward curve late ( eg Hayward , Taranto and Scrimshaw ) push ahead

Would love to know where crows see his best position , hopefully the answer is midfield

Still think we'd select Brodie and Hayward before him

Hampton has showed no evidence of being to play consistent midfield footy

I think it's a pipe dream

Things holding him back
* injury history
* endurance
* decision making
* concentration ( ability to stay in the game )

If he hasn't done it at any level in last 4-5 yrs I don't see that changing
Also very outside, more than some on here seem to think. Can't see him rotating through the guts.

Berry would definitely be a midfielder for most of the time, I reckon. Like I've said, he has some qualities that remind me a little bit of Hodge - leadership, hard at it, ability to fill a number of positions well.

Reckon we go Brodie before him though, and it sounds like he may well be available. Hayward, if I had to predict, is GC bound IMO

Definitely not Will Minson

There ain't many off top of head

PAC has a few including Viney and George Hewett ( Sam Day, Harry Wigg)

Doesn't really matter , most of his footy has been learnt at north Adelaide and under sticks Phillips according to his interviews

He's a gun . I'd be happy and I can see midfield minutes
I'd be happy with a few others also
Harry Wigg was a Blackfriars boy and Riley Knight was St Peters [emoji5]

Didn't mention Brodie as I think it's unlikely he gets past Gold coast's 4th pick.

Unless GC are playing a pretty big game of smoke and mirrors (which they could well be), it doesn't sound like they're that interested? Both Anderson and Twomey running with the fact that they could slide to us.

He may one day be able to play half back or half forward but he has shown no evidence that he can step up to be an AFL midfielder

when has he been played in the midfield?

Because he hasn't quite backed up his elite under age year where he shone out as an attacking running back mainly to do with niggling injuries.

Early this season he had niggles with a knee that saw him miss 4 or 5 games and a fair bit of training, no structural damage I'm told just fluid on the knee, probably came back too early and struggled a bit to impact for a few weeks but once he got back to full fitness his last 4 games playing midfield/Forward were the old Jarrod Berry circa 2015 where he dominated in the midfield as well as going forward and hitting the scoreboard big time with his penetrating kick. The plan this year was always for him to transition into the midfield full time but with the injuries effecting his fitness that wasn't possible until later in the season, once he did he proved to everyone that was watching he's a very capable midfielder that hits the scoreboard in bunches. In a nutshell he's very capable of impacting the game strongly playing midfield, as a running back or up forward.

He's plenty exciting to watch when he's up and running at 100% fitness with his line breaking run and carry, long kicking and fierce attack on the ball and man. To me he's a Brodie Smith type player with far harder and aggressive attitude at the man and contest. Whoever drafts him will get a player that will leave no stone unturned to be the very best he can be.

I think there's 5 Ballarat Rebels that are certain to get drafted this year, Hugh McCluggage, Jarrod Berry, Cedric Cox, Willem Drew and Tom Williamson.

Late pick/Rookie chances Callan Wellings [very underrated mid/def], Jarrod Korewha, Jarmaine Jones and Lloyd Meek.

I was tossing up between Venables and Berry in the phantom draft over on the Carlton board. Ended up choosing Venables with pick 15... reckon it could be another Dangerfield scenario at the Crows. That fend and explosiveness. If he can find more of the ball...

Also picked up #46 Luke Ryan, #56 Hamish Brayshaw, #61 Ben Jarman (matched bid) and #68 Sam McLarty with the remaining picks. Still a decent amount of depth by the third round this year.

Oh yeah and took a punt on Alex Villis with a pick in the 80s. Although it's probably fair his chances now in getting a 2 year contract are very slim.

I'll just say this - Ryan is a steal at 46.

Like the McLarty pick too, and as you may guess I'm a fan of Venables :P

this is what I want, the Sloane, Talia, Lever, Laird types who refuse to be beaten and live for the contest.
My only concern is our lack of X factor and brilliance in midfield , not sure Berry or Brodie address this but they are great competitors

We need Brad Crouch to explode

Those are words we do not want to see here. :straining:

Honestly think that Greenwood could be that X-Factor in the midfield. Is in the Bont mould. Not saying he'll be as good as Bont at all, but he's that type of player.

Wouldn't underestimate Brodie as potentially developing into a player with some X-Factor either, if he can improve his outside running - could be a true balanced (but inside-leaning) mid that's absolutely dominant at the coalface
