That's disposal efficiency not kicking efficiency. A large portion of M Crouch's disposals are handballs. His kicking has improved, was terrible. Doubt it will ever be great though.
I can't name too many pure inside extractors who have great kicking, honestly. Won't let Matt down if he doesn't have great kicking. It's pretty decent at this stage though, IMO, better than people give him credit for.

Missed this I take it?
I don't think either are particularly good kicks for the record, Crouch usually hits his targets when he has time and space, in the position he plays that's not the case very often. Lyons kicking is hugely overrated on this board.

Actually disagree about the amount of times he has time and space, considering his uncontested possession count toward the back end of the year
You've misinterpreted that post, the reference was when in space and he has time he generally hits his target, if you go back over the history of my posting on Matt I've highlighted numerous times the fact he has really started to get on his bike and provided plenty of uncontested options this season.

Hayward will go first, probably first round. Scharenberg, Graham and Brennan 25 onwards. One might be there at 43. I'd be happy with either Scharenberg or Brennan.

Speaking of Hayward has anyone noticed how one sided he is? Goes out of his way to kick the ball with his right foot on every occasion. Won't stop him being drafted but in this day and age all aspiring footballers should be able to kick both feet. Even to just get out of trouble or a quick snap on goal.

Fair enough, you did say that in the position he plays he doesn't get much time and space though. I'm saying he certainly does, considering his UP count, which means his disposal is good a fair amount of the time, but of course isn't as good when kicking out of congestion (like most inside mids).

Don't get me wrong, I agree we need to get midfielders. I just don't want another one who can't kick.
I'd also probably say that it does seem amazing that when we do have a midfielder who can kick we trade him out for pick 43.

And people think we should get Barlow in....

There's a reason Barlow was picked up as a mature age recruit by Freo. Big bodied mid who could run all day, but he never got drafted because he couldn't kick.

Has lost a yard of pace, but he still can't kick.

Could not hit a barn door with a banjo. Off topic I suppose because this is the draft thread, but sometimes I wonder how much footy some of the posters here actually watch?

I agree, this mantra "Always take the best available player" never really sat comfortably with me.
Sometimes NEEDS are more important and as we have weakened our midfield by getting rid of Lyons we definitely need mid-fielders.
Write it on the white board draft day " Upgrade our midfield!"

Draft isn't there for short term fixes, that's what the trade period is for.

Whoever we draft most likely won't impact 2017.

The more I think about it,. and the more I watch potential draftee's tapes.. I really hope we 'reach' for Jonty Sharenburg. He looks the goods,. and prior to about 5-6 months ago was always touted as a top 5-10 pick.. Hopefully they just grab him.. can't see him still being around at pick 43..

Considering how difficult it is to trade in a ready to go Mid it's really our only method of getting quality in any position.
"I know (Betts, Jacobs, JJ) but they were not really unloseables at there previous clubs.

Pretty sure he won't he had a month of good footy with the highlight being 9 goals in a final which I saw. He played 18 s the majority of the year where other players managed to get into the seniors. Recruiters watch all year not just the last 4 weeks although the 18 final was dominated by one player.

Not always true, players at the end of their career like Barlow or pods are there but they aren't going to be match winners they are being let go by their clubs for a reason. If we had let Thommo go he might go to another club but let's be honest he may get a couple of blinders but that's it. Barlow at 29 seems a year to young to let go but is he cooked. Hawthorn I think let Mitchell go a year to early, he did win their B and F but maybe it's perfect timing and he falls away like Thommo did this year, it took big balls to do it, but got to say the hawks have got big balls.

If we pick Scharenberg at 13 I'll be in shock for a month. Venables and Berry are much better options.

Haven't read this thread but do we have any phantom drafts, scouting notes and vids in one place for this year's draft?

Wouldn't mind having a look.

I think no matter what, Ogilvie doesn't give a stuff where a bloke is rated and will recommend we pick whoever the scouting department think is the best player. If that's Scharenberg then I have no doubt we wouldn't pick him, even if he's pegged as a guy to go in the 20's.

Never know he may go Jamie Hampton predicted as a third rounder at best and a HBFlanker

I won't be shocked - 'we always wanted him, it's just we rated him higher than other clubs'.

Here's an idea...if you have a player in mind try to find out where other clubs rank him then go to the trade period with that in mind. If he is 18-25, trade 13 for 16 and upgrade another pick

In theory that's OK but if we don't trade for a midfielder and actually lose one then what other means do you have to acquire one.
My guess is we'll be drafting mid-fielders early.

That's what we did when we targeted Lever. We downgraded 10 to 14 and upgraded 47 to 35. Still got the man we were after, yet many here went apeshit.

The club can't win sometimes.

If it is an SA player whether it be Hayward,Cox ,Graham or Sharenberg, they may be concerned at our friends at the swamp trying to grab them first
