Upgrading luxford is weird bc unless we are adding another cat b we will go one short as we cant replace him with a normal rookie.also he's still probably 30 on our depth chart whereas when we upgraded walker he was fairly close to the 22 given all our injuries to talls.

If it were me i would have just gone with 39 senior listed rather than 40 and let all the rookies fight it out for a rnd 1 upgrade than lock myself into 1 rookie now.

That said prob means we dont rate the draft a lot.

Teams can have up to 3 category B rookies. We didn't need to promote Luxford to get another. We're probably trying to minimize our exposure to this draft. Looks like we'll take 4 at the draft

Still him plus 4 picks leaves 2 spots open so we are taking one DFA plus a psd pick,unless we run with 39.

I haven't heard us being linked to anyone, and the DFA system makes the PSD kind of redundant if you know who you want. I think we'll just go with 38 on the senior list.

Could go with 38/39 and extra rookies.

PSD is an opportunity to see who is left over from ND that you want,and if no one get an extra rookie.

It is more refundant than 5 years ago though.

On media,blease was linked to hawthorn mote than us so i dont put much stock in there being no rumours.

I like to think of the effect this would have on Luxford's confidence going forward. On the Category-B rookie list he could feel on the outer, whereas now being part of the main list would show him how highly the coaches think of him, and push him to develop further.

If he doesn't work out, we can always just delist him at the end of next year anyway. It's not really any kind of risk for the club, and could have great results.

Suggests they've got another Cat B candidate in mind.
We had a crack at Alex Keath but he signed with Adelaide.

Wouldn't mind having a crack at a tough as nails Irishman or a athletic man mountain of a yank

We've already got one Irishman on the catB list in Lucey, so if we go after another Irishman they would be listed as a catA rookie; not sure that is the path we would take at this stage unless we felt they were further along in there development and not a pure project player which you can risk with catB rookies.

I wasn't aware the was a rule you could only have 1 cat b Irishman.. Hawks had 2 kiwis??

IRISH ROOKIE PRE-SELECTION

Irish players can be signed directly to a club’s Rookie List under the International Player Rule and do not have to go through the draft. Previously, Irish players could not be listed as Category B rookies but took a spot on the main Rookie List.

Clubs can now list one Irish player as a Category B rookie but for each additional Irish player rookie listed, that player will be deemed to be a Category A rookie and the club will forfeit its last selection in the Rookie Draft for each additional player listed.

The AFL single out Irishmen from the potential international players and rookies:

This is some more rookie list rules:

With the entry of the Gold Coast Suns and GWS Giants into the AFL, clubs were permitted to have a minimum of four and up to eight players on their rookie list but starting from 2013 the maximum will be reduced to six. These six rookies are now classified as Category A rookies.

In addition to these six rookie-listed players, each club can include up to three additional players (now referred to as Category B rookies) on its Rookie List provided the player either:

• has not registered in an Australian Football competition for three years immediately before inclusion on the Rookie List;
• is an international player, meaning he is not an Australian citizen and has not lived in Australia for a substantial period;
• is a former NSW Scholarship player with that club;
• is a former International Scholarship player with that club;
• is a rookie Zone Selection for clubs based in NSW or Queensland

Not everything on that page has been updated, but I haven't seen any changes to the rookie list rules.

Disappointing that he didn't make it for Victoria, ruined by the systematic mismanagement

Ah ok, I thought it was still only 2.

You may be right but have we ever had 3? It may be a combo of both..happy enough with the progress of Luxford and another CatB in the wings... I guess all will be revealed sooner or later

Does anyone know how Lucey is going. I noticed he lost a heap of fat throughout the course of the year. Never rated him on the recruit. I haven't seen him live either.

I was surprised he wasn't delisted to be honest, doesn't look like making it.
