We rejected 2 top 10 picks 2 years or something ago. Don't think we'd do 1st and jake barrett.
Fair enough
I thought we might for forward defensive pressure and reliable goal kicking. Wouldn't trade straight swap for Toby or Devon though.

So apparently where keen to get our hands on one of pick 1, 2 or 3 and deal for the bombers pick 1 is possible so perhaps were having a good look at getting access to Marshall

ESSENDON might have a buyer for Pick 1 in the national draft, with Greater Western Sydney interested in acquiring a pick inside the top three. Although the Bombers have not yet secured the first choice, with five matches still to play in the season, the Giants are exploring a trade in which they would give up two of their three first-round draft picks in exchange for Pick 1. However, Gold Coast, which has two first-round picks — currently Picks 4 and 8 — has ruled out a deal with Essendon for the prospective first choice.

We we go to all that trouble to claim Setterfield the recruiting team will need to be sacked.

Nope.

If we pay the Collingwood and Geelong picks in exchange for Essendon at one, then this happens

Tomlinson, Marchbank, Stweart etc go out of the club for 3x second rounders.

We take live #1.

Bid. We pay our live first, plus a second.

Bid. We pay our second, plus another second.

Bid. We pay a second, a third and our fourth.

Bid. Pass.

Bid. Pass.

Marshall on the other hand is worth the effort.
I don't know that Marshall is. I get a very Sam Day vibe around him - a lot of hype about a cross-code convert who's very athletic but only pops up in spurts. Could be anything but probably won't be. Brodie would be my best guess, or McCluggage.

Don't completely disagree but with all of Stewart, Tomlinson, McCarthy likely out the door we are light on with key fwd depth and if Marshall is in the clubs eyes the best key fwd in the draft I can see the club looking at ways of getting him on our list.

Been watching him very closely and he's better mate.

He is very skinny which a few years in the gym will fix but he just has great goal sense, is deceptively agile and has sticky hands.

I didn't want to love him because it's still unlikely we get him but can't help it. He is a stand out and has immense upside.

Problem is not many have Marshall in the ball park for pick 1. If we overpay for another kid who walks after 2 years heads certainly need to roll. Should of done this last year if they were gonna do it.

Great to see were getting on the front foot with guys coming out of contract next year and have now
re-signed Haynes until 2019

When Nick Hayes was drafted at pick 7 I had a big cry and asked for SOS's head.

For the next 18 months I whined, bitched, and moaned at this "terrible mistake".

In all the time since I have been scraping egg off my face and marvelling at what an absolute gun he is.

Fair to say for his talent, consistency, and loyalty he is now my favourite player.

Approaching the club to re-sign just sealed it...none of this leeching every last dollar, just be a leader, have success, and still be very well paid.

I look forward to this bloke continuing to prove what a clueless flog I was to ever doubt him!!

Wouldn't go that far, the professionals get it wrong with teenagers all the time.

You're not Robinson Crusoe there.
