Haven't heard that about Mcluggage but definitely have heard McGrath not keen to leave Melbourne. Probably just a lot of hearsay at the moment
Watch the Combine wrap on AFL.com.au (day 4 I believe), McGrath says he is open to moving interstate

Nope.
Chad Wingard is one who definitely told all recruiters he would sit out of football if he wasn't drafted by a SA club

Ok, so that's one out of ???? each year?

I remember Des Headland wore a Freo shirt to the Brisbane interview but they took him anyway. So that's two.

Saying you don't mind moving is one thing. Actually minding moving, or being unable to cope is another. And more and more kids these days don't seem to be able to cope, or even want to try to cope.

I moved cities at 18 away from family and friends. Never looked back. Kids today need to drink a cup of concrete and HTFU. You're being paid, handsomely, to play a game. Isn't that enough.

I moved to the armpit of north Western Australia at 22 and I manage just fine.

Just sucks that my location means I have yet to see this club play live

Don't they all say that though? Didn't Marchbank? Boyd? Etc etc
Seeing as though we were willing to nearly 'sell the farm' for him and the fact that we have been into him for a while, might suggest that we have talked to his manager and he is willing to come interstate (he may have the professional mindset of a Kelly, Whitfield, Cameron, Coniglio). It may not mean that at all, that's just a thought. Maybe it's just a smokescreen and were really into McCluggage. Who knows? We'll find out on November 25th!

Similar honesty from marchbank would've been nice but silvagni was on his way out and probably didn't bother to ask the important questions

If you ever have a chance watch the replay of that draft year, Pickett and Marchbank's mum looked like they had just been told they had cancer. Could not hide their disappointment.

I'm big on body language, Jack Steele never looked happy to be a Giant.

Wasn't jack Steele our mascot a couple of times? Goes to show any kid can be a "flight risk" in some regard.
In my view he worked hard, started the year in our best 22 so he must have impressed in the off season. He was passed by Hopper and Matt Kennedy through the year. He's young and needs to nail a spot in an AFL side for his career to be on track. I cant resent that. Hope to see him star at the saints, ok if he has quiet games against us.

It may have been spoken about previously, but I'm not sad to see Rhys Palmer out the door. I thought he was a huge liability against the dogs. SJ cost us a GF and proved that our depth needed to be evaluated.

Palmer OUT, Deledio IN = winning! :)

Just wait until you see the gun player we draft with pick 135!

Nope. He was in the side ahead of Hopper until he broke his hand. It was injury, not form, that lost him his spot to Hopper - and dare I say, the choice ahead of Palmer for the Prelim until he did his foot.

We weren't going to give Rhys Palmer up for a pass... were we? The club must have a plan with that pick.
Nope, just getting a guy where he wanted to be, we have a history of accommodating that, despite the Sunshine stance haters

I get the prelim he probably would have played. The club said that in one of the videos I watched. It's usually iether honest or say nothing from the club from my experience. Dont think nope though, they both played while he played NEAFL as I recall? Possible my memory is failing, or you saying that was while he was coming back?

Overview on McKenna guys?
Small/medium forward flanker/pocket.

Good leap and great goal sense and gifted athletically.

His overall weakness is his strength and size.
Captained the Australian U19 cricket team to India - leadership written all over him. Kicked 9 for Gisbourne (I think in a final). Played quite a bit off the half back flank in the NEAFL this year - so can handle either end of the ground. Needs to put on a bit of weight. Nickname is "Party" - though that's not lifestyle, more a corruption of his first name Patty.

Nope.
Chad Wingard is one who definitely told all recruiters he would sit out of football if he wasn't drafted by a SA club

FWIW specifically he told GWS he wasn't interested in joining a start-up club and would leave after the two years were up if they drafted him. He didn't say he'd sit out of football, nor that it was applicable to all non-SA clubs - though it was probably designed to have that effect given GWS had the first five picks followed by an SA club.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we gave him up for a "pass". No way will we use Carlton's eighth pick. Rhys would have been on too high a salary to play him in reserves as presumably the club saw him doing this coming year. Similar to Ahern and Pickett, he wasn't going to contribute to the seniors and wasn't on a rookie wage so was offloaded for a bargain basement price.

I await with baited breath to see what Stephen Wells down at the Cattery does with the pick 91 we gave them for Stevie J last year.:p

Can't see pick 135 being used in any way shape or form.

And if we didn't use pick 48 in 2013 (which we got twice for trading three players to two different clubs) then the chances of using the pick obtained in this trade is pretty slim.

Three players for a pick we didn't use - and that's a pick in the 40's - so I just can't see us using a pick in the 130's

Late picks like that are more symbolic and tactical than anything. We could have got Stevie J as a delisted free agent - but Geelong chose to trade him for a nominal pick instead - why? You don't neccesarily want to "delist" a good servant of the club - looks bad, for them and you - and if you trade them they can walk in the door and start training. They don't have to wait until the end of the feee agency period. We got Stevie J a couple of week early that way.

Palmer was an original out of contract player. One of the few brave souls that said - yep, I'll leave an established club to go out and stand in a wheelie bin full of ice at Gipps Road and do the hard yards building this brand new club that nobody wants in an area not known for football. Not like one of the young kids we had early access to who just wanted to be on a list. Palmer was a rising star winner at another club and it must have been a difficult decision to come to a club that had nothing. I'm happy we didn't just "de-list" him. We got him somewhere else without that concern. They can delist him instead.

Edit:
Just thought of another possibility:
maybe it was got for cover and protection, under the new rules. Maybe it was got simply to be able to give it back to the AFL when they say you have X list spots open so are only allowed X draft picks, you need to give up a draft pick or two to come down to that number. Giving up 135 is better than up 50 or 60something
