If we miss McGrath we should look super close at this bloke. He really is what we don't have on our list.

I know he says he wants to go to the Lions but he also seems a very loyal type and I think with his talent he would break through pretty quick.

He is my pick as the Rising Star in 17' wherever he lands up.

From that interview, few danger signs for me

Would be a bit worried he is more focused on his talent and past achievements, and less so on being a better player & person every day

(Caveat that he is only a kid and this is just one interview etc)

This finalises our list before the draft unless we pick up a DFA which is extremely unlikely

Should be able to. Did I read somewhere up to 9 (including Cat B) (whatever Cat B is...) so we should be able to fit a couple of academy boys in - though we haven't in the past - but maybe now we're down to normal list size we might start.

As per Dlanod's post, my understanding is that GWS can take any of the GWS-academy listed kids who don't get selected in the ND in the rookie draft as Category B rookies. So, Sam Fisher a possibility there I would think - would keep a Canberra kid on the books.

ACADEMY PLAYERS – ROOKIE PRE-SELECTION

Like father-son players, under the previous AFL rules, Academy players were subject to a bidding system before the National Draft if they were nominated by an eligible club but could not be pre-selected by that club before the Rookie Draft.

Clubs with Academy programs – the Brisbane Lions, Gold Coast Suns, Sydney Swans and GWS Giants – should have the chance to pre-select local talent from the pool of players in their Academy between the Pre-Season and Rookie Drafts if those players nominated for but were not selected at the most recent National or Pre-Season Drafts.

The amendment is designed to create incentives for Academy clubs to develop talent by providing opportunities for them to rookie list players for further development.

Only draft-eligible club Academy players who were nominated by their club at the designated time and played in the National Championships are eligible to be pre-selected as a Category B rookie.
