Levi is no world beater and never will be, but has become a solid target up forward.

Never finished as leading goalkicker, but improving each year. Kicked 24 from 16 this year, which is decent. His kicking improved markedly after getting coaching from your old big lug Sav Rocca. I think moving forward, a club could expect 25-35 (maybe 40) goals a year, which is not too shabby.

As for our other options, the cupboard is a lot more bare than you suggested - particularly in the short term. McKay is years away from being a main target, Curnow is perhaps more of a 3rd tall, Everitt is a tall flanker, Jones may not play (m)any more games and Silvagni is very raw. So I see Cas as being our #1 or #2 target for the next few years before moving down the pecking order.

As you mentioned though, there is a good chance SOS will look to cash in more players at the end of the year. He is in that mid-aged group that would return some value. A pick in the 20-25 range might do it? I would understand if teams didn't stump up that much, but it wouldn't be worth us trading him for a pick in the 30s or a pick upgrade.

The idea of trading the Man-beast that is Casboult is something that really rubs me up the wrong way...He has arguably the best hands in the AFL right now, is not injury prone, competes to the best of his ability and his kicking has improved 10 fold.

I believe that a lot of clubs would love him to be on their list, he is still young, built like a brick proverbial and with the encouraging wisdom of Brendan Bolton as coach ( Casboults lack of confidence has been his major issue I believe ), he will become a powerhouse up forward. Their seems to be a current theme of wanting to throw out known talent for hopefuls. Sure, trade away players with talent that don't want to be part of the future, but don't discard players that want to be at our club just because they have worth.

I for one, will... I'm already on record regarding my feelings about trading Levi (and Everitt) but first time poster put it a thousand times better than I have.
Well said mate, I agree completely!
Although, we're in the minority...

I reckon Levi is one to watch this year. He is the right age and experience to really start dominating as a forward. If he can do it, we know we have a keeper.

Wish I shared the same level of enthusiasm as you Shanners but I just can't.

There is no doubting that his marking skills are elite but the other areas of his game are way below par. If he could match those skills to his marking prowess then we would have an unstoppable beast on our hands, I'm just not sure he will bridge the gap too much more.

Casboult & young McKay in the key forward posts taking big grabs and slotting sausage rolls would be a godsend, I guess I can dream ........

It's wishful thinking, but possible!

Yes, intelligent call, in two years time if Cas is slotting 40-50 regularly he will be invaluable to our young forwards. They won't be getting belted around(as much) with other teams always having to keep an eye on where Levi might decide to park his rig. Cas chopping out and taking heat for Macca and SOSOS would be ideal. Bolts needs to put him in a cage and poke him with a nearly sharp stick. I really wanna see the angry hulk Casboult...

I do really believe it is time to Rock the Casboult, (and leave if you don't like it...)...Sorry, stuck in the 80's...

In all seriousness though, I could not agree more. Maybe he just doesn't realise how big a unit he really is and how much impact he could have on an outcome of a game. I think the main ingredient missing in Levi is arrogance. Carey had it in spades and Jonathon Brown realised early on that he was bigger than most and used it to his teams advantage. For want of a better term, he just needs to get some "pig in ím"...no more Mr (Double Cobra) nice guy. (even though that was great to see...).
