Is there any chance we could move on Kreuzer to GWS as part of that rumored 3-4 trade ? I'm loathe to give up any more early picks for a group of players that Marchbank aside, don't ever look like becoming elite/top liner players ?

I love Humphrey, but i am of the opinion now that it's better for both us and him that a parting of the ways happens at the end of the season. Lets say Kreuzer/Jamo plus our 3rd for Marchbank/Stewart/Tomlinson is really what i'd like our club to do (if possible)

We must be firm in our negotiations and not mortgage our draft position unless we are getting bona fide elite talents, and Marchbank aside, the other players linked to us from GWS aren't that.

I could live with missing out on Marchbank as long as we retain our 2nd round pick (our first round is clearly sacrosanct this year IMO)

Our 2nd round pick is worth a mid - late 1st rounder this year given the depth of the draft this year, i'm loathe to trade it out for anyone really (well the current names floating around on the market/rumour mill)

Essendon will take Brodie for sure, the Dockers will be doing some trades (eg. McCarthy) to replace Pav, they aren't going to wait for a young guy to develop like that. Added to that, I reckon they will draft that 204cm WA ruckman Tim English, they need to also replace Sandilands.

I'd be very happy with that, should it come about.
Every chance Fremantle will finish below us and I doubt English would be on our immediate radar.

Essendon: Brodie
Brisbane: McCluggage
Fremantle: English

Carlton: Petrevski-Seton.

prestia doesn't fit the sos/bolton guidelines. end of story

 Because of age?

Maybe we see him as someone who could play until 32......That would give us 9 years.

Maybe we aren't that scientific yet, but you have to look how many years you may get out of a body, as much as how young one may be.....It's relative.

I might be completely wrong on this but could we trade our first and second for Prestia and pick 9? It would give GC picks 4 and 5 and if a bid hasn't come for Bowes they could add 4,5 and Bowes which would be a huge haul for them in this years draft.

Not a bad idea but they'd want to be bloody confident that Brisbane wouldn't try and screw them over.

im purely going by the guidelines set out by sos, trigg & bolton during the last 12 months. they have been very clear about age and have stated clearly they will not be chasing players that demand huge contracts or cost high draft picks. i have no reason to doubt them as they have been very clear and consistent in their views. i dont expect it will change.

What is being said is the larger intent and not a "You're 23, you're no good for us"
We said the same thing last year, then.......Wright & Gorringe.

If we did take a 24 year old Prestia along with 5 * 19-22 year olds, I wouldn't be calling them liars. :)

really? 24 years old (bolton said no one over 22)and as sos & trigg have both stated they will not be chasing any big fish or offering any big contracts this year. doesn't seem to fit to me.

Prestia is 23 (turning 24 later this year).

And i dont recall Bolton specifically saying we wont recruit anyone over 22...when did he say that?
All i have heard is him saying we're looking at players in their early 20's, which Prestia is.

Also i could be wrong, but i dont think SOS & Trigg have ever clarified the threshold for a 'big contract'...that is subjective.
Eg Maybe they consider 'big contracts' to be $600k+ for 5 years+ when we could actually get Prestia at $575k for 4 years.

If the rumours are true, even just last year we were prepared to offer Carlisle a deal of around $625k over 4 years...

That's not what I heard.
I think if we offered Carlisle that much money, he would have been playing with us..........well he wouldn't be playing because........but you know :)

It would be and I know that we may want the icing on the cake now, but we need to build the cake first.
We'll have at least another 5 players that have had senior experience come to our club this year.........maybe even more.
Once we know what we've got, we can then look at getting the icing on the cake in subsequent years.
--> Masterchef thread

Pick 4* to GWS for their first 15* or Geelongs + Marchbank/Tomlinson/Stewart. (maybe we need another pick and or steak knives)

Pick 15* & Everitt to GC for Prestia.

Tuohy + second rounder to Sydney for Mitchell.

In: Prestia, Mitchell, Tomlinson, Marchbank, Stweart
Out: Pick 4*, Second Rounder, Everitt, Tuohy + another pick/steak knives in GWSMK2

I'd rather that over hitting the draft. Midfield is along way to fixed, Crippa ain't waiting another 1-2 years before he gets support and is being pushed in a wheelchair by E.Curnow at Stoppages, potential for the best backline in the league in 2-3 years and forwards developing with a strong midfield and backline.
If we could somehow pull this off (unlikely) we should erect a statue the size of a tyrannosaurus rex made purely out of gold out the front of Ikon Park for SOS. And chuck a real, gold plated crown on the top of his head while we're at it.

on the couch the other night, on the radio. sos said a few weeks ago they wouldnt be trading for anyone over 21-22 and they would go to the draft. trigg said the same thing and stated they will not be looking at any large contracts or big fish for at least another 12 months probably 2 years.

the one thing that has impressed me is they are all on the same message and it doesn't look like changing so i have no reason to doubt them.

whether people believes it right or not prestia will be 24 next season so i would be very surprised if we are even talking to him.

up to you to believe them or not. they didn't say it last season. they said it after the draft. this year they have been clear on their direction

I think we did although the mantra wasn't as prominent as it may be this year.
Even Malthouse was on that track before his sudden.....and completely unexpected, demise. :)

Doesn't matter. Just saying that it wouldn't surprise me should we reel in one or two 23-24 year olds. Just average it out.....Easy

fair dinkum. you guys will twist anything to suit your argument or position.

Josh Jenkins just signed a huge deal with Adel.

While Jenkins and Levi aren’t in the same league, tall forwards are rare as hens teeth, so I would suggest if Carlton plan to trade Levi (granted, this flies in the face of recent reports) his price, both in terms of his salary asking price and in terms of what clubs would have to give us to seal the deal, would have just risen.

Petrevski-Seton comes across as an upgrade on Clem Smith to me but there is something that I can't put my finger on about him.

Saw him last year and thought WOW this guy has some serious talent. Beautiful mover in traffic, good hands and kick, just class. Haven't seen enough of him to know if he is tough (which I look for in a player) or whether he is a consistent performer, and would love to know what his attitude/personality is like. Is he a leader??
Strikes me as a sleek outside mid, but I want a hard core.

We hand over 4 + 22 + 40 + Next years 2nd rounder (4000 points) to GWS

We grab the GWS 4, and picks 9 and 14 (2500 points; rates the GWS at pick 8 in value) in return. We trade Touhy to Sydney for 16. We send Levi(?) and the Dogs 3rd to the Dees(?) for (low-mid 2nd round pick). Se send Sydneys 1st and that 2nd to GCS for Prestia.

Hit the draft with 9 and 14. Add Tomlinson, Marchbank, Steele, Prestia. Upgrade Byrne with our 4th rounder.

5 x 1st round picks for the price of 1.
Quite a reasonable scenario, though I doubt we'd get pick 16 for Tuohy. Not impossible but unlikely imo.

They will be able to get McCarthy for a second or third round pick this year. Tim English would also be around the second or third round in terms of picks. This still leaves their first round pick.

As for Essendon, they would love to have another quality tall forward to work with Daniher. So it would be a toss up as to whether they would take Brodie or not.

GC17 and, I think, Brisvegas have academy kids... but that won't stop them from taking good midfielders.

Petrevski-Seton comes across as an upgrade on Clem Smith to me but there is something that I can't put my finger on about him.

Why that comparison? They're nothing alike.
It may not have been SPS's best game at Simmonds, but the class just stood out as it did with Brodie, McCluggage and Scrimshaw.........to me.

As should be the case for any player, if the character evaluation is positive, you take the class.....and if it's not.....move on.

I believe one of the knocks on Petrevski-Seton is that he doesn't find enough of the ball. That pretty much rules him out based on an article I read where SOS said ball winning ability is one of the primary traits he looks for.

I suspect we ideally want Brodie but that outcome seems highly unlikely.

Every time that I've seen him play - and I watched most of his games telecast during the carnival - is that he's the type of mid who glides in and out of the game far too easily. When he is in the play he looks a class above.
