You think Port didn't pay the mimimum amount required by the AFL?

Have no fear Port have brought forward contracts to use the extra space and free up space for next year

Wasn't it stipulated there would be no salary cap relief for banned players?

In practice I've implemented in 3 different large organisations :)

There is no differentiation. You have work and people who either want to do it or not.

what often happens is that the people on the highest loadings often leave and are replaced easily enough

What kind of organisations? I've seen it implemented as well, but only with a fairness in roistering clause. How does the 'family friendly' side of it work though?

Anywhere the work is commoditised.

Family friendly has nothing to do with rostering, but it is a reason in the business case to do away with shift loadings and move to a flat rate, as it disadvantages those who can't work unsociable shifts. Fairness is as much about removing unfairness

In terms of rostering, works much better where it's not based on shifts but on an aggregated, permanent jobs centred around fixed hours. Rough with the smooth. So for example could be 35 hours 5/7. They work the same hours each week, or on rota of any 5 days in a 7 day week on a 3 week cycle perhaps? 1 weekend in 3 or 4. Others can alternate early versus lates, day vs night whatever. Depends on function, business needs, seasonality etc

The thing is everyone pitches in, all equal, no one gets all the easy shifts no one gets all the crap ones. Though you try to accommodate personal preference, fact is everyone takes their turn.

If no one is raking in big money for 1/2 the work, people accept it a lot easier.

I'm not going to say too much about it, but I'm doing something in healthcare at the moment, where everyone wants work Saturday and Sunday because they can make as much in those 2 days as people working regular 5 days Mon to Friday, to the point no one wants to work M-F. which means you break it down into smaller pieces so you're not held to random and still you can't staff it.

This came about because no one wanted to work shitty Sunday shifts so they kept raising the rates and it didn't work. It didn't attract any new staff, the old staff jumped on the new rates and left the old shifts alone. The people taking the weekend rates are always and inevitably the troublemakers and low performers as well so it's doubly galling

Give more work to less people, more security, flat rate, longer shifts, shared rotating rota. The penalty rate scabs get shown the door, and the people remaining will be better rewarded with security, more hours, but they have to share the load. Builds cohesive teams too.

Also works well with covering absence.

But anyway this is a very dull subject matter ;)

Not really that dull. I think I overimportantcised the family friendly reference you made a few posts ago. I took it to mean preferential rostering for a specific type of employee as a policy. Whereas, we're talking about the exact same outcome, which provided there's protection for workers getting dumped with an unfair share of shit shifts, is fair for all and much more efficient to administer.

That's it. More fairness, more security and much more stability in the labour model.

Shanghai SIPG are about to sign Oscar from Chelsea for 60 million pounds

Shanghai Shenhua have offered Carlos Tevez a $53 million AUD a year contract.

Port 'taking over China' Power announce a $14,000 profit. To play a game against a fellow minnow next season in a stadium used as a golfing range and by an amateur soccer team. #smalltime

Strange thing is the game day crowds are probably not a lot bigger than at our games.

Shocking news about one of my favourite Panthers from yester year, absolute gun player with exceptional skills. Had a great career at Carlton and could always be relied on to tear it up for SA in State Of Origin.

One of my favourite players of all time. All the best for his recovery.

BBC did a few stories this year about soccer in China this is one story from it.

http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/36242298

Dominating world soccer is an aim the Chinese government has. Much like they set their goal on dominating the Olympics.

There is also a lot of funding for Rugby Union, $100m to be spent.

http://www.bbc.com/news/business-37836744

Both of these sports are global. And like the Olympics there is much pride in dominating these global western sports.

I highly doubt they really care about a sport that is the major sport in a country of 22m, yet not the dominant sport in that country's biggest city.

That seems to be the case, I'm shattered.

It was a fluff piece about Wines big arse sitting in the pilot seat.

You were right the first time:

"CATHAY Pacific will become a new premier partner of Port Adelaide and its official international airline partner from 2017."

But China is just a waste of time, right guys?

You can tell by their responses to China that the natives are getting restless ;)

It's funny that the same posters who believe the "Crows = corporation, Port = suburban club" line are the same posters who want to brag about International Airline partners and love that their club spends more energy on Chinese business than it does on being a football club that is successful onfield.

But congrats, this massive international corporation is now a sponsor for your club on the same level as 5aa, we must be talking about 10s of dollars that could possibly put next year's profit into the $15k range.

The ROI on that Premier Partnership (about $100k) over the past four years of luncheons in Honk Kong and Shanghai, coupled with on field performances due to diverted resources (Burgo training the Chinese team as an example) must be well worth it.

Remember back when Burgo flogged their players during preaseason in Dubai, the results came.

The past two years he has been handing out footys to disinterested Chinese kids (and this year a US Junket) at this time of year. The results came.

Please keep focusing on being corporate sellouts and selling your soul to China. It's working wonders for your on-field performance lol

In China, TV viewing would be even more important than here... though you would wonder why with their population they don't get massive crowds.

Good corporate sponsor, depending on what they are paying.

Do you really believe the Chinese will become interested in the AFL long term, or is this push for political reasons?

Why would we be restless? Personally I would be very concerned if the crows started playing games overseas that weren't pre-season games... particularly where there are unpleasant playing conditions.

Do you honestly think there will be a significant following of Chinese supporters following the Power?

So what will you do with all this money? Make $18k profit?

You are demonstrating that you don't understand the China strategy at all.

Funny that, considering we have some of the biggest Community programmes in the AFL.
