It is very worthwhile. I am far from a Jay (Our Premier) fan, but this is good for our state and all the small businesses that are involved and have a chance to meet with Chinese investment and importers will benefit. Hence I have no issue with the SA Government.

But I would not want my footy club to be involved and waste resources. I pay for a membership to watch my teams win games of Footy. Not be a vehicle for such a scheme, regardless of how worthwile it is.



Surely you would want to see more for your club after four years of resources (not just financial) being used on this project than a Premier Partner? Especially given the on field results in the last two years as the China Project has been ramped up, and on field results have fallen away.

No doubt. I will give it more time though as I know how long these things can take. One of my current best clients took 2 years to get my first project with them, patience, continuous effort and investment is required.
If Port can develop further Chinese partnerships that result in more money coming into Port and SA it will be a win for everyone. If it wasn't a Port - Crows thing I believe what Port are doing would be universally praised. Put it this way, the crows are a piece of shit in my world, but if they started working with overseas investors the way Port are I would reluctantly congratulate them.

If Port can develop further Chinese partnerships that result in more money coming into Port and SA it will be a win for everyone. If it wasn't a Port - Crows thing I believe what Port are doing would be universally praised. Put it this way, the crows are a piece of shit in my world, but if they started working with overseas investors the way Port are I would reluctantly congratulate them.

A simple scenario, you guys had to replace Walshy when we hired him. Now did your board members and CEO go through a proper process of hiring the best replacement. Or were they too busy organising things for the China Strategy and relied on Shaun Hart (his best mate) and Darren Burgess's (after working with him on a TV show) recomendation to hire him without considering other candidates.

Vossy had never worked as an Assistant Coach, and his Head Coach stint at Brisbane has caused them to be where they are now. But he was an easy hire while your club had other priorities on their mind.


We no longer hear about how Burgo is pushing your guys in the preseason to breaking point. But do have some nice pictures of him working with the Chinese National Aussie Rules team and some photos of him directing a handfull of your players lightly jogging on a cow paddock in Shanghai.

I can only speak for myself but I do question it, I'm not happy about the last 2 years and I didn't (and don't) agree with Voss. But I do support what we are doing in China.

Could a business man make the connections in China without being involved with a footy club? Certainly think so.

So what does Port get out of this? China doesn't give a crap about AFL, soccer is a world game, they have more interest in soccer than AFL.

If it was a good strategy, you would think the NFL would be pushing into this market, they aren't so there is your answer. It will amount to nothing in 5 years, just wait and see.

I suggest you read his autobiography if you still believe that. I know it may be biased, but it's not like the media reporting on it are neutral observers without an agenda. That incident also cost him well over 200k over the next 8 years as well.

The only autobiography I have read is Steve Waugh's. It is very likely i will never read Dane Swan's, so can you give me the Reader's Digest Condensed Version of his side of events? Because the bits I've seen reported on the incident are not... complementary.

IMO the government would be better served throwing cash into Adelaide United if they want to use sport as a vehicle, which is a pretty good idea.

The sport is increasing at an alarming rate as rich Chinese businesspeople use it as a play toy. Unless the AFL change their ownership model which will never happen, this is but a short term venture for Port, albeit a very good one. The business benefits could potentially be huge for the state, but not for the AFL.

I know you have said you wish to no longer fan any flames and I understand if you don't wish to reply. My point would be if I genuinely could be shown, or see a benefit directly to Port, then yes I would applaud the initiative. I am cautiously optimistic but I expect to be disappointed.

I'm not going to shit all over an idea before its had a chance to succeed though.
At this stage I can only applaud an idea, and the initiative. Execution of this strategy (that other dimwit poster who had a crack us about calling this a 'China Strategy') cannot be commented on yet in my opinion. And if we don't realise a pipeline of revenue from all this investment then I will criticise it.
At the very least I'm flying over to China to watch my team play which is cool.

That's because we've got enough of an endurance base that we can now focus on simple maintenance through ball work exercises and repeat sprints to increase running power. We didn't even bother with a time trial this year because it has now become redundant - we know most of the players will run sub 12 minutes so what's the point?

Don't disagree you need plenty of ball work as your side doesn't have the skill level required to be a finalist.

Burgo is so good they no longer need to test the players fitness. Now you just need Burgo to take over the medical department so Charlie's ankle won't need scans anymore, Burgo can just say it's good to go, no need for tests or measurements"

Those kids in the high performance class must be learning so much from this "take no measurements, say it's better than ever" approach.
