McGrath is only averaging 3 more handballs a game than setterfield, despite playing 40+ more games. Really hasn’t developed much since his first year. Think they’d give anything to go back and take mccluggage or Taranto

Mcgrath needs to learn to use his pace, from what I remember he was an elite top victorian 100m sprinter or something along the lines of that prior to his draft year. Thats his weapon, but he doesnt use it... similar to Johanissen these days, gets to max speed twice a year it seems, needs to find a way to use his speed and balance and learn to use it out of stoppages or off half back like Saad who consistently gets going a few times a game. If he can learn to break the lines with his run he could end up being an elite player but right now Mcluggage and Taranto are miles ahead.

Setterfield confuses me, his earlier games I thought he was going to end up a Fyfe or Cripps style big inside mid whos just ridiculously clean with his hands, massive tackler and elite vision at stoppages but not the best mover. Now he's running in our top distance covered some games playing wing and covers the ground like a gazelle with his knee looking free, honestly just have no idea how he's gonna end up, is he going to bulk up to 95kgs or stay slender and be a running midfielder?

Bombers went with the safe option and their fans kick up a stink when you mention it. There’s nothing wrong with going the safe option, especially at a time when the club clearly needed immediate results and hope.

With the emergence of Saad and McKenna I’m not sure they need a 3rd running half back. I’d imagine they’d select Taranto, Mccluggage or bid on Setterfield if they had their time again.

Due to the low cost, was always going to be worth it.

However still absolutely miles off the other players considered potential number ones of his year in McGrath and McCluggage.

McCluggage and Taranto have McGrath easily covered. Given Setterfield's injuries he should be considered a first year player with more upside than McGrath

The thing that makes McGrath great isn't reflected on the statsheet. His defensive work and positioning is outstanding. A perfect example of this is the last 20 seconds of the Kangaroos game where he singlehandedly stops the roos from moving the ball forward with 4-5 seperate efforts.

Taranto and McCluggage are fantastic footballers and I definitely have them above McGrath right now but I am definitely not regretting taking McGrath at 1, great kid with a great head on his shoulders with the potential to pump out a 250+ game career.

Strange pick IMO - they went Parish at 5 the year before - why draft another 178cm mid? Both Tarranto and McCluggage are 186cm and both a much better fit for what ess currently need.

Just to get this straight, assuming no other oversights, McGrath is worth more than Naughton, B.Smith, Daniel, English and Dunkley?

He must be quite a special player, seems odd that he hasn't shown much of this theoretical talent this season

From the Bulldogs, I’d take Bontempelli, Daniel, Naughton, Smith, Libba, Macrae, Hunter, English and Johannisen ahead of McGrath.

All are better players currently or will become better players. You could make a case for a few others as well. Suggesting Bont and Macrae are the only two more valuable than McGrath from the Bulldogs is absolutely laughable.
