With the Hibberd deal, if he has said he is happy to stay, I suspect it was more of a "Melbourne are bending Ess over" scenario... like we offer a 5th rounder.

If the pay increase and job security is as rumoured, I can't see him not encouraging Essendon to take the 2017 second.

It would not suprise me if they don't try to pull something like this off especially if they have a player in mind.
late crack at Mick Jaeger?
All of the "hey well done guys getting lewwy" from hawks supporters would turn pretty quickly into "you scumbag tanking pos's".

You're right, happy to stay might be a stretch, but I think it was something he said on trade radio. I remember reading the report of it at the time. Closest I can find is this. Not much to it really, and now I think it will get done regardless.

"Hibberd said he hopes the Bombers and Demons are fixtured to face-off in round one next year, as Essendon has requested, so all suspended players can return at the same time.

"If it happens it would be nice to be out with all the guys who have missed a year. Whether we're on the same team on not it'd be nice to be together," he said.

Edit – this too, though the headline is different to the content.

“If a deal doesn’t get done, hopefully they let me back because I’d still like to be playing footy,” Hibberd said at the launch of NAB AFL Trade Radio.

“I want to be playing AFL football. These things tend to get done more often than not.”
No deal done = year off with homesickness. The drive out to Tulla ****ing sucks so it's not so different to flying back west. The precedent has been set. Just kick back Pig and see you in 2018 playing with the young bloke we get at pick 20 odd.

When you have Jason Taylor the pick number is insignificant. My man will find gold in the 3rd and 4th round. :thumbsu:

Just give Dildo his precious 2nd rounder and be done with it.

By the same logic maybe Taylor could find a guy at 29 that is the equivalent of a top selection. If he finds gems at 57, then just imagine what this guy could do with a pick at 29. I hope the Dees don't blink. They will buy themselves some precedent for future trade periods. Better to be known as the side who doesn't blink (and gets value), than the side who gives away second round picks for spuds like Jake Melksham.

Meh, still not as bad as giving away first rounders for coke addicts. #value

No, not that bad, but still not great. Bad form by both teams (not factoring in a pending drug ban). Really amateur stuff last year from both our clubs. I would like to see the Dees bounce back this year (at the trade table), and hold their nerve to the very last minute. It would be a great result if Essendon ended up blinking first, and Melbourne ended up with Hibberd, and also went on to take a gun player at 29.

Youre preaching to the converted. I already lost my shit last year when we traded for Melksham, it was a terrible trade even before the suspension.

JFYI: Hibberd is under contract, we have to trade for him, not sure who blinks first has anything to do with it.

The way Dodoro spoke today indicated the deal should still go through, but guess we're at loggerheads about which pick to give up.

I can see both sides of the argument, he is still contracted and said he would stay if he has to (Won't happen, the deal will definitely go through you'd think) but they also said they'd make it as easy as possible for anyone who wanted to leave, and that isn't really happening.

Hi Guys pardon the interruption, just dropped in to congratulate you guys on a great trade period and conmiserations that you needed to deal with that grandstanding fool from Essendon.
Very strange days for the traditionally 'struggling' clubs. Bulldogs win the flag, Dees and Saints building strong lists and killing the trade period, while clubs like Richmond and Port are in meltdown while Hawthorn and Collingwood are just confused.

Im loving how everyone else is trying to chip scab GWS NEAFL players and were over here like, give us 4 x premiers' 2nd best player or GTFO!

Hibberd and pick 59. For 29 and 68.

Well done Dees list management staff..

Bombers gave away more than they wanted.

Love it.

So did we, to be fair.

I called this 5 days ago on the Dons board and was ridiculed...

So we essentially got the pick back we gave fir Lewis lol
Love it, means we have all our picks next year as well to chase a superstar coming out of contract
Or we pick up a big name Free Agent and keep all our picks ... #destinationclub

Interesting , currently Dee lives picks in draft are 59, 84 & 102
Feels weird not having multiple early picks
