They usually go potential top 15 picks just to be safe

Would have thought Constable would be more deserving than Naish, Richards or Shipley at least
Agree ......but is it the clubs who nominate a group of players? .....not sure how they formulate the list?

Gut feel says Clark will get taken at 10 to carlton, I think we’ll get Fogarty or Bonar, Brander the smoky.
Could be how it turns out ......there's always a late bolter, that throws the order out .......Murphy may be that player, but to who?

Pretty sure clubs in he top 10 nominate a a few players they think they'll be taking with their picks in the top 10, or something along those lines.
That's what i thought ......but do they each name 3, 4, or 5 ?

I like the look of Butts. Bicks, what is his field kicking like? The draft central highlights show him kicking short a lot and when he was playing in defence he looked to go sideways as his first option, in the whole clip he only kicked over 30m a handful of times. Is that a concern? He looks like a genuine key forward, which I like, as opposed to some of the other skinny key position players that come through who look more like mobile talls eg Durdin, Marshall, etc. I know talls forwards who aren't picked early in the draft are highly unlikely to make the grade but I wouldn't be opposed to taking a punt on Jordan Butts with 77. My opinion is based entirely from Bicks brief comments and a 4min video so no one read too much into what I am saying.

For a the clever posters out there: Yes, I do realise what I wrote.

PS. How on earth did Taylor Hunt manage 105 games!?! (Apologies to go off topic - this part is about 4 pages late)

Yeah, not sure, it may not be a set number, hence why players get invited late as clubs notify the AFL that they may actually end up taking a player not yet invited inside the top 10.

Either that, or the AFL nominate say 15 players and ask clubs to indicate if they should ask any others along.

Or supply a list of say top 20 to all clubs, and ask if anyone outside that should be invited .....clubs would be worried about declaring their hand

You've got to be pretty happy with either of those 3 really.

While it would be ideal to get a ready to go midfielder with our first pick, you just have to go best available surely!

Also Kane Farrell at pick 39
Can't see a 182cm running defender that doesn't defend all that well going that early ( despite being a good kick with speed)

From what you say McPherson surely he would be the better bet if looking for that type which I think we might be

Marty will be happy with the SA option at least even though 'each draftee is unlikely to make it '

hahahahaha yeah you might be too if sloane pulls the pin and goes home this year too add to the many more

Never seen McPherson live . Can we please critique him

Weaknesses ? Speed ? Kick penetration ? Or is that ok ? Seems a smart footballer but then again so was Wigg

I would be okay with it, reckon he can maybe move onto the wing in the future. Could potentially be a shorter Smith-type

McPherson would be better, though (as would Paton/Stoddart/Garner)

Whoever we pick up in this draft won't be playing a single game at AFL level in 2018, nor in 2019 in all likelihood. Mature aged recruits being the exception as Pyke seems to like them.

We need to be thinking of 3+ years ahead with our picks, which is why I would be looking for a KPF with either #12 or 39. In two years time Tex will most likely be just about cooked, so it's not a bad time to start developing a replacement in the SANFL.

Tex cooked at 29?

Um what

Milera played games in his first year, so did Lever, and Matt Crouch, Gooch played a game and will likely play quite a few next year.

Not sure where you got that from

I disagree. If we can grab Darcy Fogerty ay pick 12, I think he could be given a go across the half back flank to fill in for Smith.

Disagree with the suggestion Pyke only plays nature aged players as Lever, Milera and McGovern have been given a go under him.
