In regards to looking to the next year, don't even bother trying to predict where a player will fall in the draft.

Recent examples-

"We must get Scharenberg, but we'll never have a pick high enough"

1 year later

"Can't believe Shaz didn't get rookied"

This year that player is Fogarty

"Look at him, absolute beast, will need a top 3 pick"

Now

"He could even be available early in the second round"

There is just too much unknown surrounding player development to predict draft positions a year out

Not South Australian but Matt Crouch was another certified top 10 pick a year out who slid to mid 20s

And Hallelujah for that. I would just love to get this Rankine kid. Hope the SA development curse holds true on this one and he slips to our second rounder. I want our next two first rounders spent this year on Kelly :) dont worry he is going to nominate us this year after we win the flag, and Lever, Gov and Charlie are all going to stay :)

The more and more I read about this years draft crop,. the more and more I hope the crows somehow end up picking up this bloke with our first pick;

Oscar Allen.
POS:
Key forward, Ht 191cm, Wt 83kg, DOB 19/3/1999
From West Perth/Western Australia
Compared to Jake Stringer / Jack Gunston

Big body,. looks ready to go,. AND could be around when it comes to our first pick at 16-17.. I'd pull the trigger on him.

My memory was he was rated an early 2nd round, but you're right:

"The brother of Adelaide's Brad, Crouch played only two matches with Vic Country throughout this year's NAB AFL Under-18 Championships after breaking his hand. Crouch, who has displayed excellent TAC form when fit, proved his ability in the final round of the Championships with 27 touches against Vic Metro. He was overlooked by GWS in the 2012 mini draft, a decision which surprised many. That gives clubs this season the opportunity to swoop on the prolific inside ball-winner who is expected to be a first-round draft pick."

And
"18 Matt Crouch:
You don't need to look much further than the numbers to see how Crouch plays. He's the best ball-getter in the draft, a player who takes only a second to dive into a pack and come out of it with the ball in hand, ready to shoot off a handball. He's strong and physically ready-made, although his endurance levels are a concern to recruiters. If he picks that up, he could have an impact sooner rather than later because he has the things you can't teach, like aggression, nous and a smart footy brain.
Where does he go? Tough question. In Richmond's group at 12, but if not there he could go a bit later on. A chance to get to Adelaide's pick 23 if the Saints pass on him."

Hypothetically of course,.. BUT If we happen to Lose Lever and McGovern and perhaps Wigg + Kelly,

*Picks based on current ladder position.

Lever + 2018 3rd Round pick (53) To Melbourne for 2017 1st Round pick (11) + 2018 1st Round pick. (11)
McGovern + 2018 2nd Round (35) pick to Fremantle for 2017 1st Round pick (7) + 2018 3rd Round pick(43)
Wigg + 2018 4th Round pick (72) to Carlton for 2017 3rd Round pick(56)
Jake Kelly + 2017 1st Round pick (11) to Carlton for Bryce Gibbs

Stay with me.. and like I said.. VERY much hypothetical :)

Crows draft picks for 2017 / 2018 at the end of trade week 2017:
2017: 7, 17, 35, 53, 56, 72, 90, 108 + (Bryce Gibbs)
2018: 11, 17, 43, 90, 108

PLAYERS OUT: Lever (Melb), McGovern (Freo), Wigg (Carl), Kelly (Carl)

Couple of your boys featured heavily Doulton Langlands and Jy Lane as well as a couple of my boys Aiden Domic and Jordy Johnston..
Those there were saying Domic epic in the last quarter with 3 late goals that got the Rebels over line after trailing by 7 goals at 3/4 time. Even though he didn't get selected for VC at the championships it might have been the kick up the bum he needed because he's been dominant in the TAC Comp since then, someone has to give this kid a list spot with his speed, endurance and skill set.

Watched Langlands play NEAFL the other week and he was poor

His best is good though , not sure what to think

Lane hasn't quite come on but has some talent

You didn't watch it live did you?

Surely Domic gets drafted ? Johnston rookie list ?

Bicks Hunter Clark was my boy earlier in the year, cooled on him a little but he seems to be really finding some good form again. Would love to get him, screams a very well-rounded mid (usually the types that really succeed at AFL level).

Yep, he'd be high on my shopping list along with James Worpel as both are realist chances at our 1st Pick unlike a lot of the players being mentioned that are not realistic chances to be there at our 1st pick. [Dependent on us retaining our 1st of course]. Noah Balta is the player that's a hard one to predict where he goes, if you're drafting on potential he's right up near the top with me.
Clark will go before our first pick, if he continues at this rate. He'll be a gem. Worpel will be good and will make an impact from day one, but he's too similar to Brad Crouch for my liking.

IMO due to his seemingly lack of footy smarts (which is kinda overstated I reckon, and it can be fixed) and lack of production, Balta will go 15-20. Would love to get him with our first, has oodles of potential. Could be developed as a KPF, KPD, or a genuine swingman.

The other that I wouldn't mind picking up with our first (if we don't trade it, which I feel we will for Gibbs) is Naughton. He's rose way up my rankings recently on the back of some great performances against hardened WAFL bodies. He'll be a very good CHB for whoever drafts him.

Freo bound I would think with Naughton, Petty with a later pick more a chance if we want a developing KPD. I still think Clark will be around our pick.

I really like Worpel a lot, probably because I put a premium on winning your own ball, you're Brad Crouch comparison is pretty close though probably more prolific up forward is Worpel. A real inside bull with good acceleration, agility, hard tackler, only slight knock is his kicking can be inconsistent but as we've seen with Matt Crouch it is possible to improve that with work and given Worpel is reputed to be a hard worker by Mick Turner I'm confident that will improve once inside the AFL system.

I see the "too similar" to Brad Crouch as a very big plus btw.:thumbsu:
Naughton as a top 5 pick? Interesting, I can't see him beating out the likes of Constable/Coffield/Dow/Cerra/Stephenson myself... Petty I feel will go in between our first and our second, unfortunately.

Comparing him with Brad Crouch is absolutely a compliment. I'm just not sure we can fit, say, all of Sloane, Mrouch, Brouch, Greenwood and Worpel into the same side. Possibly, if Mrouch becomes more of an inside/outside mid (which I reckon he can do). Worpel will be a very good pickup for whoever gets him, I don't doubt that.

Was just looking at this. Why was Jackson Edwards only invited to the state combine rather than the NAB AFL Draft combine ?? Does this mean we are guaranteed to get him ?? Likely to get him cheaper with less interest from other clubs, not forcing us to match with a high pick ??

3 Interesting onlookers on the fence watching draft prospect Nathan Murphy closely at an APS game recently...

Hint : One was once Head Recruiter for the AFC, and the bloke on the left I often see at games here.
Matt Rendell is looking start to look long in the tooth. Who are the other 2?

Have to have 5 clubs interested to go to the national. I would guess everyone knows he's going to Adelaide so didnt nominate him

Will be off to Unley to have a look at Jackson Edwards today.

Hopefully he doesn't touch the pill

I'll be interested in our psyche towards this draft if Lever leaves, we've seen in drafts after Guston & Dangerfield left we've almost deliberately gone out to prove we won't be scared off from picking Victorians with our early picks (Kerridge, Doedee), whether those moves were pig headed or not picking another Victorian with an early pick if Lever leaves will be intriguing.
