Security for kids, particularly late round draft picks, who move interstate and have runs with injury in their first year.
I get it's a cold business but I think things like that must be a factor. Otherwise why resign Bunts just after a season ending injury.

Given contract negotiations even for easy cases generally take a fair while (weeks if not months), usually that means they were effectively signed up already and the club was just holding off on an announcement.

According to current ladder positions we have the following picks in the draft

First round
Nil - (lachie Whitfield 1000 point deduction moves our pick 18 to around pick 73(985 points) with 15 points to be deducted from our next pick)

Second round
25 - 756 points (received from saint kinda for jack Steele)
26 - 729 points (received from Collingwood for WHE)
Our second round pick was traded to hawthorn via Carlton

Third round
Nil - (traded to Richmond for Brett Deledio)

Fourth round
71 - 19 points

Fifth round
73 - 0 points (original round 1 pick)
89 - 0 points

I wouldn't worry. As soon as you trade a couple of players I expect that you will have at least a couple of first rounders to go with your two second rounders.

No no you misunderstand. We want to keep them all. But if we cant picks will help us to develop replacements

Wasn't a worry as I'm well aware that trades will take place.

Simply providing some data for our posters.

Given our highest rated academy kid is a second round prospect and spargo is rated late first to mid second we shouldn't need a super low pick this year

Are we that callous?
When it comes to Josh Kelly? We have to be.

We do not want to be that club that let him go for the sake of a couple of hundred thousand. He could well be the best player in the competition in the next 2 years. Who would you rather have? Devon, or Kelly? I know who I want.

Browne has reasonable mail, but does get a few wrong too...

The leads we have suggest it's him or Josh but we won't keep both.
Not 100% I agree but I appreciate the logic so if the flipside of this is Josh re-signs I am a two thumbs up kinda guy.

I'd love us to pick up Jaidyn Stephenson if we ended up with a top 5 selection. He's an exciting talent and could compliment our forward line.

I would like to take brander for the lols

Haha that would be funny. It's so funny how they overrate them every year.

I actually am not concerned with the Academy stuff at all. Without Live Draft trading it can be more a hinderence in that it kind of forces your hand to draft higher rated kids even though they are not the best list fit.

Live Draft Trading would be a major win for us and everyone I suspect. Can't believe these morons haven't brought it in, they are slower than molasses at AFL House and only react to the media.

There's only one problem with that ... both are no longer tied to GWS's academy.
