I can only admire Levi for being a no. 44 rookie pick, getting the most out of himself, and handling being an easy target for a lot of our frustrations of mediocrity.
Thats a fair point. Who knows how good he could have been had he been taught at an earlier age a better action.

Has the tools, needs to feel like he has the ability to use them.

Some people just can't shift that self-doubt, though. I think he may be one of those. And with the volume of talented youngsters we've brought in over the last three years, he may simply be overtaken by those with both the ability and the self-confidence that is required of an AFL footballer.

I'm still hopeful, and quietly confident, that if anyone can get him firing on all cylinders it's Bolton.

At the start of last season a lot of posters were commenting that Boek was not a high possession getter, that he had never been a big ball winner.

It seemed the club set out to rectify this and by seasons end Blaine was getting a lot of the ball both at VFL and AFL.

If Blaine can increase his numbers then I’m very hopeful cunners can too. He has a better body for AFL and a better attitude.

I don’t think it’s a huge ask for him to get his avg possessions up to 20

He kicked fine as a junior.

One of the ol track watchers can back me up here.
he's been ordinary for ever - his dad has vision of him in the birthing suite falling off the delivery table and missing the floor

As per article on afl.com...from champion data

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-01-16/revealed-the-afls-most-talented-list

Sydney boasts an AFL-high 17 players rated either 'elite' or 'above average', ahead of Port Adelaide, which has 16 players in the top two categories.

Carlton's list is rated the least talented, while Fremantle has the weakest best 22, with captain Nat Fyfe rated as the club's only 'elite' player.

Like to know how they base that.

"Champion Data compares players in the same position and age categories over a number of years to give each a relative rating, which then determines the strength of a club's list."

That's how they do it.

They're comparing players with similar ages and positions against each other using their huge number of metrics, most of which aren't available to the general public... we only get to see the basic stuff outside of when the commentators drop obscure stats mid-game or when Kingy get's in the lab...

Remember not so long ago when CD announced that Collingwood had the best midfield in the comp? It's a similar thing... they're not looking at the mids in the best 22, they're looking at the sum of all the midfielders on the list.

When you look at our list demographic it's not surprising that we land down the bottom. We've got 8 players yet to debut, they effectively amount to nothing as there is no data on them. There's another 11 with less than a full season under their belt who are still finding their feet. 27 players have yet to notch 50 games. That's part of the reason why they're calling us last on overall list ranking but somewhat higher for 22 (as Freo is last). Then again, we all know what most media/pundits best 22s are like so who knows who they've decided makes the cut for that. Or perhaps it's simply the 22 statistically highest rated players on the list who make the cut.

I don't really have an issue with the premise of the article per say, or the way the stats are used in the study. My big issue is the way afl.com.au are taking those results and implying that they indicate talent, which isn't what those stats explicitly show - it's a combination of talent/ability and experience across a list.

Levi's mum hired Sav as a midwife for the next baby....

CD/Afl.com are confusing talent with output. Does SK have more talent than SPS? I don’t think so
CD provided output stats to the AFL and that Schmook guy who wrote the article decided those numbers illustrated talent instead. Or perhaps he knew it'd spark some debate and get more traffic across the piece so he deliberately penned a piece that would get a rise out of supporters?

Kerridge has nothing on SPS as far as talent, but overall his average output this year from a basic/raw statistical perspective was higher. Samo played some great footy this year but he also came off an interrupted preseason, not ideal for a debut season, and while he was huge some weeks he also had maybe half a dozen quiet games (round 10) and another half a dozen fairly average games. The rest where good to great (round 7...) but he was hardly consistent.

Kerridge's output varied a bit over the season but not nearly as much as Samo's. That's a big part of why he's rated higher than Samo. This year that should swing the other way as Samo improves his tank and week to week consistency. Get rid of those 'bottom 6' worth of games (ie 4 disposals against Richmond in round 11) and I reckon his rating goes up a solid 20%. If he can worth the next 6 'pretty average' games out he's probably pushing 40-50% higher than he is currently. He'll still have a few stinkers & average games but you'd also think his ceiling should go up this year too... it's gonna be fun watching all the pieces fall into place for him over the next couple of years.

This. Provocative article is provocative.

Does anyone have any word on the type of team we will be fielding for this AFLX crap?
I would hate to see an important player go down with injury but wonder if the club want to try and use the comp for some exposure.
