SOS and Co have raised the bar even further .... though .. you shouldn't have stopped where you did.

SOS ... OK Smedts you didn't work out ... grab ya paycheck on the way out ... you too Palmer ... you are not staying for another two years and taking development time from a kid. Gave you boys a shot, didn't work out. Good luck with your futures.
We have had a bad list for a very long time and have tried very hard just to be sub par...
SOS is further implementing the refurbishment of our list by trying to get better players than we have...
The inbound stock look strong and healthy....
Boekhorst gone says for all his late effort this season his footy was also sub par and i would imagine the standard next year to improve to reflect this...
Bolts is goin to have a huge job bringing this mob together

I would like to know why NM moved Mullet on?

It's not like they have an excess of players who can run and kick the ball well - I would have thought quite the opposite actually.

Can anyone enlighten me? (I don't want to go to the Norf board - scared of what I might find.....)
A little bit to do with age, his decision making under pressure isn't great, one on one he struggles and north want to pump time into guys like Josh Williams. He played as many games as did this year due to injuries. Guys like Macmillan, Williams and Wright at their best are comfortably better than Mullett. All three are expected to be in round 1, Mullett is surplus for north, we have a lot of general defenders.

In saying all that, Mullett has got pace, is a natural winger, was top 5 for rebounds this year, a booming kick, can kick a long goal and has a good tank.

First time in a long time, I have faith the club will. That's the difference..

Believe he is at North and was always going to miss this year due to a knee reco if my memory serves.
Yep, could have played vfl late, but we didn't want to risk him. He'll play vfl a lot early next season.

I don't reckon that's what Bolts/SOS has in mind. I reckon they will smash his tank out and try for Winger/HFF, Defensive line breaker.
Very much could be the case. Was just watching some pre draft Highlights and I see more Isaak Smith than Zak Tuohy.

His accuracy and goal sense seem quite good and maybe he has been played out of position at the Roos.

This guy is calling the shots at Arden Street.

Just re watching the Mullett replays .... I reckon he won't be playing in defence. Wing/HFF. Great disposal efficiency and that's what we need to improve on ... accurate delivery to advantage into the F50. Or take the shot.

His long kicking enables to penetrate defensive zone pushes too. Could be a good win win here.

Happy with this if it eventuates.
He is a winger forced to play in defence due to a dearth of a decent small defenders at north over the recent years until the recent recruitment of Marley and Josh Williams.

He's definitely a natural winger and he'll kick you 15 goals a season doing that.

Could someone please give me an accurate synopsis on the following players.

Stavrou
Miles
T Lamb

And Freeman( doesn't he belong to the career best game against Carlton club? Therefore we must draft him)

Thanks
IE
Stavrou - slow medium defender who is reasonably composed with the football
Miles - hard working, but doesn't really open the game up
Lamb - brilliant but lazy
Freeman - one trick pony

Ive heard from a good source that sos really likes young mason blakey. Huge rapts from everyone at NB including coach. Broke his hand at start of season and missed chunk of games but finished season strong. Even played in vfl side ontaining young promising types v u18 side and did really well.
Is an absolute smashing kid. Nephew of John.
Word is he mite b a smokey to be rookied.
Everyone who has publicly commented on the VFL youngsters game has been pretty dismissive of the whole thing. Blakey is way too slow to warrant AFL selection.

Good luck to the kid, as he works hard, but he's going to have to work a lot harder to get his acceleration off the mark to an AFL standard.

If you are thinking of Liam Ryan at 73, I have it on pretty good authority he has told non WA clubs of his desire to stay in Perth and is a massive flight risk.

If he’s getting picked at 73 first in the draft then the only risk he should be worried about is getting the next contract and being thankful it happened

62 actually:

2013: 10
2014: 12
2015: 15
2016: 12
2017: 13

Shouldn't really count the players that were re-rookied.

That's no reset.

That's a God damn liquidation with just a shell surviving for the reinvention....

Do not agree, because he had talent.....pace, very good kick, good hands.........but the achilles heel of course was........no guts!!! the last one got him the boot big time!!!!!!

Not sure about this one, surely a one year contract extension to see if he could build on the end to his year which was above reasonable.

If he didn’t continue the improvement then that’s one list spot more to fill in a deep draft.

The problem with the better DFAs is that they will whore themselves to the best offer and the best offer will be more than one year, none of them are that much better than Boekhurst to take the risk.

One year until the draft of all drafts...apparently

what's the thinking behind norf releasing a mullet into the wild?

At least he is being set free in blue waters, not feeding him to a Tiger or a Lion.

Seriously, a little weird to delist someone averaging the most disposals in his career and after having played 18 games for the year.

We've moved on Gibbs' big contract and we've lost the contracts of 12 others, all of which will be replaced by draftee contracts or players traded in who are not on a hell of a lot of coin. We've also heavily reduced the contracts of both Jones & Thomas.... Smedts was moved was moved on as a tactical way of reaching minimum TPP. Its a risk considering lack of midfield depth, but he was always viewed as a 'short-term' solution.

A big name will be joining us at the end of next season, i have no doubt! We have the cash....

We have the cash yes but if we don’t show improvement then players won’t come. See Nth Melb

HARKER and some other people re why delist someone before contract end knowing you will still pay for the cost of their salary in the cap?

I reckon it is as simple as the Club not allowed to go lower in salary cap spend next year - even if it wanted to - obviously there was a bit of war chest on display this year - with rumoured interest in all of Rockliff/Saad/Smith and Kelly....points to salary cap % available ..no?

It just gets bigger next year - Club almost forced to make pretty big spend(s).

Been banging on about it all year....I don’t think you’re too far from the truth.

If we get the best DFAs coming to us for one year contracts then I’ll know that’s the case.

It is, but there are a few reasons.

He is a little bit older and won't improve much more. He has defensive deficiencies and his decision making can be embarrassingly bad at times. He played as many games as he did due to injuries to EDW, Williams, Macmillan, Wright and the need to get McDonald out of defence. North's small defenders were absolutely gutted throughout the season, we even played Kayne Turner in defence because we had absolutely no one left. Those are the main reasons.

Wright and Macmillan are expected to be back and are upgrades on Mullett. Plus, north's youth policy has seen them remove the older, yet useful, dead wood to see what the kids, like Josh Williams, have in terms of potential.

In saying all that, his stats, rebounds and long goals speak for themselves. He will help you guys transition into a more attacking style of footy and that's when Mullett played his best footy (2013).

Play Mullett on the wing and he could easily play 18+ games a season for you guys.

Looks OK in his YouTube highlights reel. Nothing flash but gets the job done, reminds me of Nick Vlastuin (could just be the hair). Could be a good rookie selection.

So Mullet is no party down back, but he is business at the sides?

Have heard this too but he's only a slim chance.

O'Shea more likely

Reckon you are bang on .... 12 months will tell the tale of the tape. Spend the cap only to release it at the end of the year.
