We saw glimpses of Jaksch. He was going to be our key defender for a decade. He will be playing at the AMMO's next season. Saw glimpses of Sumner and Whiley and Phillips. Jaksch cost us pick 7 from memory. Interesting that Jack Lever got picked up at pick 14 in that draft.

KJ has the talent, just not the drive to make it at AFL level.
What makes it worse was the SOS warned the footy club about taking him on, yet we still went ahead with the trade.
To think we could have drafted Peter Wright that year.

My predictions for who might be delisted at seasons end (Not including Rookie List)

Buckley
Boekhorst
Jaksch
Sumner
Palmer
White
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Palmer on a 2-year deal? I didn't see him on our 'out of contract' list in the article from April.
EDIT: Didn't update page and you beat me to it HBF

Is band 3 2nd round compo and what happens if we don't have a 2nd round pick ?

Band 1 - First round
Band 2 - End of first round
Band 3 - Second round
Band 4 - End of second round

If we don't have a 2nd round pick but receive band 3 compensation, the compensation pick will slot into where our pick would have been.

Any pick in the 20-30 range is a good win out of the Cas situation. While the pick on its own might not be to a great advantage, it can definitely be the "and something" that gets another high profile deal over the line.

We honestly have to thank Cas if that's what he nets us as we would have gotten penuts for him at the end of last season.

That must have been an interesting negotiation with GWS then

I'd be happy with getting our second pick back for Cas. It would be in the ballpark of what we'd get for trade anyway. A KPF one rung below the top players (maybe I'm being generous) at his age is worth a pick in the 20s.

Band 4 might be as late as 40.

I think most of us would be and I suspect the club would be as well.

This year we're a bit lucky - for want of a better term - that our band 2 and 4 picks won't be far off 1 and 3, so if Levi gets paid we're well placed to benefit from it quite considerably.

There's also band 5 though. That's a 3rd round pick and I suspect that may be a different story. In a weak draft I'm not sure we'll be happy with a pick 40 odd for Levi, which is where I suspect the mooted interest in someone like Trengove might come into play.

???

Band 4 is end of second round, i.e. pick 37 at the minimum. That's miles away from band 3, but close to band 5.

Let's back-track to 2016: Ty Vickery - tier 2 key forward - netted a $500k x 2 year deal and earned Richmond Band 3 (2nd Round Pick) compensation.

Whilst the cap has gone up 20%, having the same money on the table; being a similar player; and having a deal twice as long (reported to be 4 years) for a total deal worth $2 million - I'd say the AFL will (and absolutely should) give us Band 3 compo i.e. in place of our traded 2nd round pick ~19/20.

Does the AFL advise the club which band of compensation they'd receive after a FA gets an offer?

After the deal is done I believe Shan. IIRC, they don't tell the club in advance - lest it affect their decision.

That'd be too easy now, wouldn't it ;)

Vickery and Mayne got band 3 last year and Cas could potentially get a better offer and may sneak into band 2, which would give us two 1st rounders, to send to GWS for Josh Kelly.
Probably slightly unrealistic, but we can dream.

I don't know about 'too easy' but it would certainly make too much sense for the AFL. Couldn't have clubs making informed decisions...

Not real happy with Levi wanting out after all we did selecting him very late and maturing him into the great mark he is today and these blokes are hard to find in the AFL these days.

It just seems we put all the hard work and background into big bodied players and then they want to leave us when they are close to their prime i.e Sam Jacobs also.

Watch Levi kill us every time we play the Tigers now and he also leaves a void in back up ruck duties and Matty K needs help. We are going to still have a lot of holes to fill with only so many picks in the draft this season which is reported to be very weak.

AFL will screw us on compo as well i reckon.

Levi doesn't want to leave, but we've hardly 'loved' him over the course of his time with us.
Jacobs didn't really want to leave, but left for the right reasons, having been fourth in line for ruck duties.

............and, as if Casboult is going to kill us with the mighty beast manned up on him. :)
