Interesting comments from Neil Craig about winning the spoon:

http://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/2017-08-15/craig-bullish-on-blues

To put it in Homer Simpson speak: "We're not NOT trying to win the spoon."

No it means we made list decisions on what is the best way to win our next premiership, not the best way to avoid winning the spoon. We don't want to keep deadwood who may win us a couple of more games this year but instead get games into kids who will win us more games down the track. At no point have we 'wanted' to win the spoon but if our path taken means we finish last then so be it. Not many sides who win 5 games finish bottom (not since 1998)

What baggage is there? Wanting to play in Melbourne isn't baggage. Are there other issues?

He gave a very strange interview around draft time to the extent he was homesick and wasn't fussed if no one picked him up. It sounded like he was in a bad state and in need of a hug.

Seemed like a slap in the face to a club that he'd been at for 4 years, drafted on faith as a personal favour to Teddy, and to walk out just as he'd finally stepped out of his brother's shadow - after playing a mere 10 games in 2016.

As much as I want Weitering to stay back, I feel he's going to be a permanent forward next season. He should get bigger and stronger over the pre-season and he and McKay will be the big forwards for 2018.

Jones, Macreadie, Marchbank and Plowman to form a mostly mobile and intercept defence.

We get 4 more midfielders and some pace from the backline, we'll be seeing a much more attacking team next year. Boltons been smart by not letting us get belted week in week out and playing this game style.
JW has been ok over the past couple of weeks. Leave him in defence, and we can work our forward line going forward.

If we cant grab Kelly should the club make a play for both Hopper and Kennedy?

What would it take as i would not want to give up pick 1/2.

Guessing some kind of compromising photography involving goats

I'm going to be pedantic here: 80% of a future figure is not the same as 120% of a current figure.

120% of 800k is 960k, while the 1 million equivalent in 2016 is $833k (1m/1.2).

Not important in this context, but I don't want you to dramatically **** up your financials in the future.
Thanks I did realise this but I didn't think anybody would pull me up.

Just on the rise in the cap do rookie and first and second year players also go up by a flat 20%?

I'm starting to think the entire list management of clubs will change in coming years. We will see less and less depth plays held on the main list for more then near minimum wage. Instead teams will just do what we did with ASOS and GWS done with Mzungu and de Boer. This will drive top end talent and best 22 players salaries up.

Rookies just have half their figures in the cap

Some teams will probably go the other way, with a much more even spread. The middle tier of players will be a bit more even. The difficulty would be aquiring top level talent at a discount or picking it up later in the draft.

These will probably be teams like Hawks and Geelong over the last decade selling team first attitudes.

Hmm Weitering forward/ruck next year?

Runs all day and can move well in traffic

Exactly. I want us to win premierships. I don't want us to just make the 8 or win games just for the sake of it. I want to be ready for flags

The fact that he clearly isn't desperate to be an afl player...he acrually came out and basically said he didn't care if he wasn't picked up by another club.

Not the attitude you want.

I remember reading that article so just looked it up.

"I'm not fazed by it," Richards told News Corp.
"Whatever happens, happens, I can study in Melbourne if that's the worst case and be with family and friends."

It's all a matter of your own judgement as to how you take those words. It's actually a healthy outlook on life. Personally l think to judge him on that is a bit harsh. I would be more interested in knowing what his actual commitment to training was like. What's his work rate like.
