would we consider yarran on the rookie list? still young enough and we'd have people at the club that know what he is like (when not drug impacted)
He'd have to tick a lot of boxes, but why rule him out?

Younger doesn't always equal better.
Those ones are a bit harder I agree.
Hawks: I think will plateau. Their youngsters will consolidate and improve, but those 3/4 are big shoes to fill.
Dogs: I think will fall slightly. Their retirements will hurt
Port: they are tough to judge, on balance I think they have outperformed this year
I agree midfield depth is key and can help our forward line connection, just having the talent levels of Murphy, Gibbs and Cripps being able to spend some time inside forward 50 is a significant help to our forward line productivity.I see Plowman as part of defensive rotation. Doesn't matter to me who starts. I like Wright and have no issue playing him but he is very inconsistent. It's why Adelaide delisted him. Like some others on our list when others go past them we will be in a much better position. I also think with a better midfield Gibbs, Murphy Cripps Charlie Hopper Cuningham etc will have better goal scoring options. High hopes for Polson & LeBois if they get a full pre season and if we get Rayner he will play straight away. JMO![]()

No not at all.
Murphy, Kruezer, Gibbs, Walker, Betts, Jacobs and Jamison all 21 or under.
Then we had Grigg, Hampson, Russell and Bower (who I remember someone saying had similar stats to Marchbank at the same age) who all showed something and were top 20 picks under 21 years old.
Then we had players like Armfield, Bentick and Blackwell even Joseph and Ellard all under 22 who had shown easily as much as lot of our kids have so far.
We had Simpson who was a year older then Cripps is now and then Carrazzo, Waite and Judd the same age as Doc.
Im not saying we don't have good youth just that it's nothing out of the ordinary
Really? Best young group I have seen at Carlton in nearly 30 years. Coaching and development also first class as well.
Weitering SPS Charlie Williamson Marchbank Cripps are elite talents. Most clubs would be happy with 1 or 2.
Silvagni Fisher Cuningham Pickett McKay Macreadie are at worst very good.
Polson LeBois Kerr have a lot of talent, just need to step up. I think they will
The Jones Renaissance has helped as well.
Then add Pick 1 and Hopper & Balic who will all be 21 and Under in 2018. WOW![]()
Has already ticked the confession box by the sounds of it....He'd have to tick a lot of boxes, but why rule him out?
I love the optimism and I love Willo, but how is he in tier 1? May get there in the end, but hasn't shown enough to separate himself from Silvagni/Macreadi at this stage.
Personally I wouldn't lose faith, but consecutive bottom 4 finishes would certainly put the spotlight on us. It would add a lot of pressure to see significant results in 2019.IMO it's 2019 as a minimum before we start to really climb the ladder.
That's stretching the truth, I count at most 7 (not all of which would realistically be picked together). In most peoples Best 22 we have something like 10-15 players that will have less than 25 games at the start of 2018.
Elite ball use, competitiveness, size and poise beyond his years does it for me. What he can do for someone so young and inexperienced is as impressive as any kid on our list. Just looks an elite player to me. Has all the tools.
I agree we do seem to have a lot better understanding of it these days but I've also seen plenty of players show as much as SOJ, McKay, Fisher, Cuningham, Pickett and Williamson and go onto be handy at best or not make it at all. I name those 5 players because I'm actually confident they will make it (McKay and Cuningham not more then 50/50 for me). That may have been the case then, but I think most of us look a little deeper than maybe we used to.
The other factor is that we had a terrible development regime. I think it was closer to a 'every man for himself' method, than for any systematic development program. On top of that we didn't take character into the equation as much as we do now. This group of guys have already shown a will, we didn't see through many of the names you dropped.

Yep that's why I was saying earlier I think Bolton is going to be the difference not our talent. Plenty of teams boast lots of young talent and I don't think ours is exceptional but just very good and I think not as good as 2008
Is this where we again, all ask.....How did he drop to pick #61?![]()
I hope he can get himself back to an AFL list, or at least senior WAFL. It won't happen in 2018 though.would we consider yarran on the rookie list? still young enough and we'd have people at the club that know what he is like (when not drug impacted)

The timing of Yarran’s departure from the Club last November meant he was retained as a listed-player but he will now officially sit on the long-term injury list, creating an opportunity for a rookie-listed player.
I agree, I think he's one of our best picks in recent times. Is this where we again, all ask.....How did he drop to pick #61?![]()
Who's lost faith? I couldn't be more excited about the future.
At the start of next year Silvagni SPS McKay Marchbank Weitering Fisher Cuningham Charlie Willo Pickett Byrne will all be under 25 games. That doesn't include Macreadie Kerr Polson & LeBois who I hope will be playing some seniors. It also doesn't include Hopper Balic our first round pick and a new bunch of draftees.
In anyone's language that is a very young side. They will get there but they just need some time. It's all positive but patience is needed.
Not everyone on that list will be under 25 games
Already:
Weitering 40 games
Silvagni 27 games
Charlie 25 games
even Marchbank is now on 23 games.
Deceptive how many games a few of these guys have already got under their belt. It get what your saying though
Yes we are very young, but these guys are putting a lot of games together as a group which is invaluable. Who knows what the off-season will bring in and what lies in store for the pre-season.Close enough and doesn't change my point. Still very young and as a group a year away from being consistent influential performers.

There are a lot of determined and competitive players amongst that list, may be closer than a lot of people think.
Exciting times ahead.
Next years 1st + change for Kelly
Use this years 1st...if we finish last, on Rayner
Dusty Martin FA
Murphy, Cripps, Gibbs, Kelly, Martin, SPS, Curnow, Fisher, ....not a bad midfield.
