If we put #4 + #10 on the table then I highly doubt they'll knock it back. The problem is getting a pick around #10 from Adelaide. Gibbs being contracted will come at a higher premium it just depends how bad they want him. That's why I'm tipping that if they just miss out on the flag they'll see Gibbs as the missing piece and the pressure to get the trade done will be on.

They will rely on trading Lever to the Dogs if he still wants to go ... or was it the Dees who were interested? If that doesn't happen we will keep Gibbs and struggle to meet the price for Kelly.

Is the general consensus that Kelly is waiting to see if he wins a flag? If he does he goes. If he doesn't, he stays?

Can he hold out that long before making a decision? It impacts Hopper and others. It impacts other clubs decisions.

The Dogs were interested but he has turned them down. Dees and Pies are the other 2 clubs still in the running.

Pies pick might be too early for Lever and too early for Gibbs

I was thinking our backline on the wkend is probably the best combination of players we've had all yr
Plowman Jones Byrne
Docherty Weitering Simpson/Williamson
Im struggling to find a spot for marchbank
Does anyone agree

In terms of structure i definitely prefer what we've had this week and last week...only 3 tall defenders, giving us more run.
4-5 key defenders was always overboard.

But yeah, the problem then is what to do with Marchbank and soon Macreadie? Can't not play Marchbank in particular...he is quite agile so MAYBE we can squeeze him in and drop a small and not lose too much run. Macreadie unfortunately will have to bide his time in the VFL and wait for an injury/suspension.

This is why stats can be useless and quite often dangerous. Cripps might not be rated elite - i dont personally care about the rating specifically of good vs elite. But I'd take two Cripps over one Kelly when building a 22. So it could be said it is a no brainer to not give two picks for Kelly.

Two players are harder to stop. Both are needs. The real winner is GWS who in three years have lost Kelly but have a new Taranto and Cripps running around. How to build a neverending GWS dynasty.

Let's not get carried away and overpay. Better to spread talent by numbers.
Yep, and one player is also more vulnerable to succumbing to injury.

If we were recruiting by computer, those stats might be useful but recruiting by computer would also theoretically make us not get the draft selections wrong in the first place, which again makes the stat redundant. :p I'd much rather we looked at each case on its own merits. Seeing as this year's draft is not looking that good and next year's is looking 'super', and because we are still rebuilding, I say try and make the trade without resorting to include next year's first rounder, or else pull out of the trade, there's no shame in that.

Has the most agility of all the new young key defenders and a very reliable short kick. We have a dearth of talent down back. Isn't it wonderful to no longer require White and Row?

Yeah I agree on that, other picks will have to start getting involved. I think chances are he'd go to Melbourne ahead of the Pies. Collingwood are set for a lengthy period towards the bottom section of the ladder while the Dees are on the way up. More appeal there imo.

They currently hold pick #12 which is probably just about right for Lever and Gibbs. #4 + #12 would do it for Kelly too.

If it is like that, then I wonder about peoples' values, if I was a footballer who had ties to Victoria, it would be the other way around.

It just makes sense that Macreadie comes in and Weiters goes forward!

Will mean that Charlie Morph's into Kouta next year tho [emoji6]

Doc - Jones - Macreadie
Byrne - Marchbank - Plowman

Solid back 6 and simmo can rotate through there also!

On the wing baby! Wieters is a smart kid he will figure it out

Weitering is the best of the lot and a future Hall of Fame defender and people want him forward or on the wing. Leave the kid where he is best suited. Took him long enough to recover from playing forward this year. He wasn't picked No. 1 to be a gap filler

Marchy won a rising star nomination which means before the this season he played bugger all

Now he has 20 odd games under his belt and entering his 4th pre-season.....will explode

When Marchbank Weitering Docherty Byrne Williamson Plowman Macreadie etc all get some experience and start learning to play together they will be hard to beat. We are looking at one of the greatest defences in Carlton history. Will be the backbone of several Blue flags
