Im sure it will improve in time the big thing is he can mark it inside 50 in contested situations thats very valuable to have a midfielder doing that .

Fully agree re the marking, but I've been waiting for the goalkicking to show improved consistency for the past couple of years, and so far it hasn't. Hopefully we decide to keep Sav on the books after Casboult departs.

As long he improves it to coincide with our entry into finals and pushing further im not fussed about his kicking at goal for now

Great effort!

I don't see it happening. I think too many clubs involved which means a lot of variables.

I think landing Kelly and Hopper will be a lot simpler especially if they nominate us.

Gibbs should land us #15 + #18
We should then see if we can offload that to the Hawks for their 2018 1st.

Pick #3 + pick #22 for Kelly. They can keep Hopper.

This way we go into 2018 draft with potentially 2 top 7 picks whilst still landing Kelly.

Losing Gibbs should be made up for by gaining Kelly. Losing Cas will be covered by McKay and/or Kerr.

We might take a bit of a hit again in wins but if we head into 2018 draft with 2 top 7, potentially even top 5 picks we will be laughing.

Those 2 beanstalks will go top 5 next year meaning we could end up with 2 of the best mids from next year's draft.

That does 2 things; it bolsters our young midfield and it prevents other clubs from having access to that young talent.

First time I think I've seen this floated, and have to say it makes a whole lot of sense.

Hawthorn don't have a first rounder this year, and could well jump at the chance to sell another two good young kids to their members and give their little rebuild a kick-start. I'd push the issue a little more and try to get Sicily added in (with maybe a future fourth rounder going back).If we can bring in Kelly this year then we may be happy to give the first round of the draft a miss, especially if we strengthen our draft position for next season when we have a couple of father/sons and a wider free agency pool.

2017 - In: Kelly, Sicily, Pick 38, Pick 56
2018 - In: Pick ~4, Pick ~7, Ben Silvagni, Will Hickmott, Free Agent (Tom Lynch?)

We basically bow out of the draft for this year and focus on developing guys like McKay, Kerr, Polson, Lebois, Pickett etc. into senior players. Then next season we can blitz the draft and cover any gaps that get exposed during the 2018 season.

Cripps is a beast and looked great up forward taking a mark. Needs a hell of a lot of work on his goal kicking still.

He suffers from a fairly common issue when it comes to goal kicking - when he's kicking from short/mid range (20-35m) he seems to pull his kicks a bit. It's like he's worried if he tries to kick it long he'll shank it, but the irony is that changing his action to try and ease the ball through tends to result in mistimed kicks. Casboult was the same - more reliable from 50-55m than he was from 25, because he completely changed his intent.

Just hoof it through, Patty, put it in the second tier.

Seriously some people underrate the importance of Casboult to our side .
Losing him will leave a massive hole in our side next yr and people are putting way to much pressure on 2 players that haven't really shown alot Mckay/Kerr to come in next yr and play 23 games as a key position forward like Casboult does

That is just the drawback with pure inside midfielders. WC cringe every-time Priddes is having a shot at goals. At least Cripps can kick it 50+

Casboult will be a loss short term for sure but I don't want us to over spend either. If he goes so be it!

I would love us to have a real weapon Kpf and hopefully that will come with time, Mckay or Lynch come on down

The key short term I believe is to shore up the midfield, with the way Bolton coaches and the belief in the system the boys have we are really a couple of good midfielders away from winning a few more games/pushing for the 8.That's not a bad effort from where we were.

Looking at the current draft order, one way to get back in the second round could be to swap 1st rounders with GCS for one of their early second rounders.

Reckon it'd be a good trade for both teams.

He loves early draft picks and he'll protect it to no end. though - he is a bit of a magician so we'll see what he can do.

Our final draft position could even be anywhere from 1 to 8 the way the season is shaping.

If Brisbane do what they've done the past 2 years and beat us up there and then win their home game against Gold Coast and beat North in round 23 at the GABBA that means we need to win another game somewhere and hold the percentage gap to maintain our position above them on the ladder.

North could, perhaps even should, beat Fremantle this week. The Dockers competitiveness has been erratic all season and with injuries it should be a game North are favored in. That puts them equal on wins with us. They have upcoming matches against Essendon, Collingwood, Hawthorn and the aforementioned final game against Brisbane at the GABBA. Those are all winnable games to a certain degree and even though they've only won 4 games this year their percentage of 92.57 shows that they're much more competitive than a 17th ranked side ought to be. Their only super tough games are Port and September hopefuls Melbourne and St. Kilda.

The Pies are as inconsistent as buggery. You never know which Pies team you're going to get. They've beaten @ Sydney, Geelong, Hawthorn, Brisbane, @ Freo. Also got within a kick of GWS and Melbourne. They seem to beat themselves most weeks so its hard to predict any contest with them. Capable of beating anyone, capable of being embarrassed by lesser teams.

Those are the teams equal or lower than us. I've never seen such a crazy season down the bottom end of the ladder. Just when you think a team is done they shoot up and have some wins and when you think a team is on a bit of a roll they're capable of dropping winnable games. Before we beat GWS my call that we'd struggle to win games post-Rowe injury didn't seem like such a bad call. Then we did beat GWS and backed it up by winning a game up at the GC that appeared to be much more like a 10-goal blowout than the slim margin it was.

Two weeks ago we were an outside chance of sniffing September (it wasn't going to happen but it was a nice daydream). It's possible we could finish on the bottom. Who the hell knows anymore. Crazy stuff.

Where does ASOS currently sit when back from injury? Is he still elevated? Is there a spot for him to be re-elevated with Sheehan now playing? I don't think there's room for him at the moment with Weitering (can always go forward again I suppose), M'bank, Jones and Plowman.
Personally I don't think he would just walk back into the side and would have to come through the VFL, but if he plays well enough, where does he go and can he play?

One things for sure ... if he comes back into the firsts, he will bust his nut 200% and bleed blue for the 120 minutes he is out there.
