Brisbane lost players through mismanagement, as did we. Moreover, Brisbane received draft picks for the guys they lost, we lost Waite for zero return. We have some young guns now but they'll be ruined like the last batch if we spend too much longer down the bottom. The AFL will be aware of this.

These players still left the club and most asked to be traded. We wanted to keep Jacobs, he was offered a contract. We didnt want to lose Grigg, he was offered a contract and the club thought he was going to re-sign. Garlett refused to negotiate from mid year and was always going to leave.
Robbo a different story as was Laidler. Yarran was poached by Richmond. Henderson wanted out, Tuohy wasn't happy with the contract he was offered. Last year Gibbs asked to be traded and this year Casboult will probably leave.
That is a lot of very good players who have departed and many not by our choice.

Of course we didn't want to lose good players, but the choices the club made, around contract offers/trading, forced many of these guys to seek other opportunities. Our past poor List Management team was a shambles. As for Henderson and Gibbs, they have always been conditional players and always will be, being more interested in themselves than a team environment.

We have to get past this point of thinking we will receive a priority pick, SOS will concentrate on what he can control and dismiss what he can't

If we manage to swap boekhorst for balic I'll eat my own poo.

If we swap Boekhorst for Balic, I will wait for SkyhorseTamer to poo out his own poo, that he ate. Then I will put it in my hands and clap.

I agree to a point. But like it or not our clubs finances depend on memberships . Memberships consist of hard core bolted on members and those that are "swing voters" . The swing voters come in when there is hope, and although you and I and many others on here can see the progress, I think its naive to think that the swing voters can. BB and SOS need to be mindful of the fact that potential members will respond to results and progress up the ladder next year would seem to be imperative to gaining new members.

If that is what guides our drafting stategy then we are screwed.

In fact its just this mindset that resulted in the 'Messiah' signings of Judd, Malthouse etc over the years.

We need to draft to win a flag. Not for quick success or to appease the members. We need to stay the course. Be patient, thourough, ruthless and methodical.

The members should know whats going on. Heck, we're making a doco about it on a bi monthly basis to show them. The message from the club, coach and CEO has been clear and consistent (even boringly repetitive).

Stick to the road map. Reset. Green shoots. Journey.

We really need a quick small forward or two to crumb & apply defensive pressure. The ball rebounds too easily and too dangerously.
I suspect we haven't really seen the full extent of Bolton's gameplan because we can't ever lock the ball in the forward line. If we did the defenders would press up the ground rather than holding position well back.

I don't think Sumner is up to it. Pickett could be the answer or could be a wasted talent. SPS should be a midfielder. Fisher might be the best bet, but needs to work on his crumbing and will probably spend time in the midfield too.

There's a lot of speculative small forwards on our list that haven't worked out. It's time to turn them over & try and unearth some more with late or rookie picks.
Nah not Fisher mate he's a pure mid. Will be a gun.

No player ever gets 'ruined' because their team is in the bottom third of the ladder. If anything, it should make them hungrier for success.

They aren't ruined, they just struggle to reach their full potential. Hopefully we can be like the Hawks and the Swans in a few years with an uncompromising leadership group that demands excellence.

Kreuzer poised to re-sign with Carlton

MATTHEW Kreuzer is poised to re-sign with Carlton in a deal that is expected to bind the in-form ruckman to the Blues for at least two more years.
Kreuzer is due to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, but has already satisfied a trigger clause in his existing contract to play on at Ikon Park in 2018.

The 28-year-old's management and Carlton, however, have been working on a longer-term deal over the past month. It's believed the new contract will run for two or three years, which would keep Kreuzer at the club until the end of 2019 or 2020.

Doubt it's about Carlton
It's about the interstate teams

No. Any thoughts around that notion are all but gone.
He's ours for life.........just the way it should be.

Say Mummy did his knee on the weekend?

They'd have plenty of pieces to lure the form ruck of the comp for a 2018 premiership tilt.

The noise doesn't fit.
Reckon Kreuzer would play for the CFC, even if we didn't pay him.
No issues seeing other high profile players move on, but not Kreuzer any more. He's ours and we're going to love it. :)

Yeah that's fair

I do love him

Just pointing out that player retention is an issue. Being screwed over by the AFL in terms of compo picks hasn't helped us either.
No harm in asking for a PP, especially if we do finish bottom which is still a possibility. It will at least stop Brisbane getting one.
