Surely after what happened at the Gold Coast Suns today and Tom Lynch coming out of contract at the end of next season, im guessing Levi will take the best deal he can cause im betting every single Vic club will be queuing up to sign up Lynch.
That's why I have zero interest in Lynch. Whoever gets him will have to massively over pay $ wise and any bid will be matched so you will have to trade anyway. He would also be turning 27 the year he played for us.

Pick 2 plus second round Compo for casboult
Next years second round pick

For Kelly/Hooper

Lose casboult pick up Kelly/hooper keep Gibbs extra midfield depth for next year.

front end Kelly/hoopers contract go into next year back end a huge lynch contract still have a top 10 pick. Draft Bsos and will hickmott. Not over complicated, thoughts?

LMAO Hooper!

My thoughts though, GWS will up their offer for Hopper if Kelly leaves. We will probably need 2 first rounders to get both.

Like I said, we're better off getting Kelly this year and Shiel in a couple of years time.

Haha hopper". I think we need to add midfield depth now. Losing Gibbs is stupid anyone who thinks we should is a idiot, we need to start making gains. He is on 500k a year well under his market value and is contracted. Bring Kelly and hopper in go big after lynch. People who say he will be 27 when he plays for us? Perfect age just when we are having a tilt at finals?

It's the midfield we need to concentrate upcoming trade and draft period.
Next year , if we are able to land one of the King brothers and Ben Silvagni our KPF woes are over, two elite talls at long last, special talents.

Gibbs to Adelaide for 1st round pick plus Duggan (from the McGovern trade)

Adelaide first, our first and 2018 2nd round pick for Kelly, Hooper and Smith

Keep Casboult and look at FA Zaharakis or Rockliff and Ottens.

Use the pre season draft to try and steal some one like Lang/ Billings/ Vandenberg.

B Plowman Jones Marchbank
HB Docherty Weitering Simpson
C Kelly Cripps SPS
HF Murphy Ottens Curnow
F Silvagni Casboult Smith
R Kreuzer Duggan Hooper
INT Zaharakis Lang Fisher Pickett

Ottens gives us a mature forward to take the pressure off of Curnow and Silvagni and gives McKay time to develop.

We need to build a midfield and Kelly, Cripps, Duggan, Hooper, Zaharakis, SPS, Fisher and Murphy look very strong.

Are you talking about Andy Otten?

Where's McKay fitting into your team? If all of that came to fruition, one or both of Casboult and Otten would demand to be traded by the end of next season.

Why now? We aren't on the verge of winning a premiership, all of our young players are a few years away from reaching their peak, it makes no sense.

If we get Kelly this year and get Shiel in 2019, then by 2020 we will be ready to have shot at a premiership for the next half decade.

Think we could create a thread to discuss all the permutations on how to improve the level of competitiveness of the competition.

I agree, we need slight changes and perhaps the NFL FA model will not work here, but needs to be considered.

Another option would be to increase the level of compensation for the teams outside the top 8 who lose a FA. While sticking to the same formula to determine where the first compensation pick should be, an additional pick could be added.

Example: If Gibbs was a UFA and we lost him to AFC, if that compensation pick was directly after our 1st, we would also obtain pick 3, then an extra pick could be added at the end of the 1st round. That would not restrict players moving to their club of choice and CFC being compensated better to help to secure better players through trade/draft.

Personally, I would remove the PP altogether, in favour of slight amendments such as above

Having compensation for FAs (specially for RFA who club didn't match offer for) is so flawed, that the sooner they get rid of it, the better.

Pretty sure a player can't be on-traded as you're suggesting with Duggen. Unless I'm missing something.

We're still a chance to get pick 1 this year. Kelly and Hopper sound delicious.

People suggesting we get rid of Gibbs then go after Rockliff or Zaharakis are kidding themselves. They are all within a years age and Gibbs is a better player than the other 2 who we would have to pay overs to get.

Seriously Levi in a top 4 side will kick 50 goals a year. We move the ball so slow our forwards will always struggle. I seriously hope SOS knows what he's doing.

can understand the trepidation given he's the leading goal-kicker and ruck fill-in... but it's out of our hands, and there's reasons other than salary to move on from carlton too.

I hope David re-signs quickly.

With Dennis retiring and Dale, Daniel and Dylan facing uncertain futures, we need at least one 'D' on the list for 2018.

If not for Carlton ... for Thy's sake ......

Not sure if this has been done before but though it would be interesting to compare 95 Premiership team to what currently have
on the list that will take us to Premiership 17 (have left out older blokes who definitely won't be around the next 2 years - Thomas, Simpson etc).

Tried to match up players based on similar traits/characteristics (e.g. Kouta/Curnow playing on the wing, Christou & Williamson - beautiful left foot kicks coming out of defence, SOS & Liam Jones - best fullbacks that ever lived etc).

Backline compares the best, shows how much work still needs to be done with the midfielders (especially as Gibbs & Murphy are coming towards the end) and the forward line.
Can't confidently pick any other players to put alongside 95 Premiership as a comparison to next premiership team.

If you looked at traded pick this year with GWS, then Hopper would slot perfectly into Fraser Browns role, while Josh Kelly could replicate Craig Bradley role.

Any comparisons missed or changes you'd make?

Band 4 might be as late as 40.

If it was going to be a pick that late, probably better off keeping Levi for another year or two, we've spent so much time developing him, at worst he is a big body up forward and can help protect Charlie and Harry from the oppositions better defenders and take a turn in the Ruck.
Pick 40 in this draft isn't a very exciting prospect, even band 3 isn't really that appealing to me, although it would be good to get back into the early part of the 2nd round.

Not really do-able but I'd put Ploughman or Marchbank against Andy McKay. Doc is More Bradley or Camporeale I reckon (actually more Heath Scottland than anyone else)

List changes starting to look more obvious now.

Out:
Buckley - had a good amount of time but hasn't progressed. Just hasn't developed a body or game, tackling not great. Might get a rookie contract elsewhere. Nearly making it but too many pieces missing.

Jaksch - probably has the ability to make it but hasn't been given any games despite some form, suggestions he doesn't have the professionalism.

Armfield - retired after a great career.

Gorringe - has neat skills and is good at ground level for a big man but hasn't shown he can play tall and seems to be poor in the ruck and poor in the air.

Not far away:
Boekhorst - Struggled to cement his spot but has played some really good VFL footy in a new role at half back. Lacks a physical side to his game and doesn't use his pace well, in fact I'd suggest he's not as quick as he looks, not like a docherty or Simpson. He's shown some encouraging signs and hasn't been too bad at AFL level. Could maybe be traded.

Smedts - He can run and has decent skills, but he needs to get in the gym, he just has no strength through his shoulders. In contests he's not strong enough. Is probably contracted?

Sumner - It wouldn't surprise me if he's delisted. He just does very little, doesn't maintain intensity, doesn't go into other positions and doesn't seem very fit, next year would be his last chance to make something of himself.

Palmer - Not sure on his contract status, hasn't played many games, might get kept for depth and security.

Graham - has failed to cement a spot when he should have by now. Most likely kept for depth and security or traded.

Thomas - Doubt he'll go, he's still getting games and he's still playing reasonable footy and is best 22. If his body is fine he'll go around again. At least for security and experience. On quality he stays, depends if his body is fine.

White - Isn't the greatest player but has played enough games to suggest we may need him. the maturity of our list may allow us to offload him.

Sheehan - Hasn't quite done enough at half back to keep his spot, played some ordinary AFL games and we have surplus here. May have made it if he started younger and didn't have so many injuries as he has ability.

Glass-McCasker - Can't see him staying despite some ok VFL form, we just surplus in this area.

Gallucci - Just don't see him doing enough in the VFL

Korcheck - Just don't see him being AFL capable, just seems to lack athleticism and real quality in the ruck.

Trades:
Casboult - He's really important to us, both for our structure and developing players. If rumors are true and another club wants him badly enough and we got some good return we may have to source a player who can fill this role immediately. Either with a high profile trade or a cheap short term option like Tippett (not a fan at all but hey what does this get us...).

Gibbs - He's really important to us as well as our midfield is super thin and he's just about our best player. This would mean at least one quality ready made midfielder is coming in. If we could find a way to turn Gibbs into Kelly then that's massive for us. Even if it gets us back into the first round a couple of times. Something like that.

Can see is trying to be really active and probably give our first pick up for Kelly which I think we should. Probably ask for Adelaide's first pick for this year and next which is fair for a high profile player with those picks likely being really late first round picks, unless there is a player we are keen on of theirs. Interesting times for us. If we can get our hands on enough picks and rate the draft, no doubt it will be another big clean out.

Zaharakis re-signed. The PSD is a non event, no idea how you propose to get otten or why you want the slowest player in football and just for good measure Hooper isn't a player in the afl ;)
