Carlton offer Levi 1.2 million over 3 years and Levi knocked it back. Carlton (rightfully) won't offer any more.

http://aflnation.com.au/2017/08/13/1758/

the average player is on $379k next year (or similar) including the 20 or so who dont play seniors regularly. not sure $400k is an overly generous offer. clubs concern would be length of contract. ideally we would offer $500k for 2. hopefully by then he is superseded. clearly levi will be looking for a longer term as this is his last big pay day. if we tabled that offer and he received a better offer elsewhere we would be in a position to gain the compensation that we require.

Why the **** would we offer him $500K when he's not worth $379K per annum already ?? If he was offered a three deal by the club he should be signing it in a damn hurry IMO.
Could offer him the $1.2 over three years but structure it to benefit both parties.

First two years at $500k and the third at $200k. This way we pay him what he is worth for the two years he will probably be needed in the seniors or as back up. The third year we can release him from his contract if others have gone past him as expected and he can take his chances on a two year contract at another club or he plays for the lower amount in the VFL.

Believe me I want any youngster on our list to make out, but I was stunned on draft night that we picked him, if you were to have told me we would draft one from Haileybury from that draft class at #59 I would've been near certain it would've been Brayshaw.

But I'm not sure if its been stated but Polson's best game in his draft year of 2016 was against Xavier, note which recruiters son's goes to Xavier, anyway if SOS was at this game its fair to see why he drafted him off the first minute or so of his highlight package:

Love how once he sees a little space, he does a little Jink (at pace) then just creates more space with speed. !!

I donn't knnow what's taking so lonng to signn the damnn conntract.
Crossing the T's and dotting the I's.

Checking it out to the Nth degree.

First there was talk of trading Murphy and now Weitering. This place is so funny some times.

We have a desperate need for quality young mids (among many other holes in our list) and only pick 1-2 and pick 37-38 inside the top 50 at draft time.

People are speculating how we can generate more picks for more high end quality young players to be sure we can have a team capable of winning a flag in 2021-2025.

If you don't like these suggestions - fair enough.

However I would be interested to know what you would do??

It's not guaranteed but i'm hoping we get pick 18 and 19 from Casboult compensation and priority pick...that would suddenly give us 3 top 20 picks including a top 2 pick.

Even if we just went to the draft with all 3 picks and took 3 midfielders who have a similar impact as SPS & Fisher we'll be looking good.

Left field idea. If Casboult is leaving, and we just want a stop gap until McKay, Curnow and JSOS and BSOS come on... Maybe we fish someone out of one of the state leagues rather than bring in Redpath.

What's Xavier Richards doing? Thought he showed some promise as a forward at the Swans. Think he is playing for Sydney Uni this year. Someone like him as a rookie pick for a year or 2.

Unlikely the AFL will allow that to happen. Assuming we don't get a PP and Casboult nets us an end of third round, we are no better off than we are before we start.

Would rather treat either as a bonus but plan for neither, just in case.

Yeah it's definitely a best case scenario...also very possible we don't get a PP and get an average compo for Cas.
But one can dream :)

Does Lukas Webb from the dogs look like he has the tools to be a best 22 player for us?

Yes...pretty highly rated 2nd round draft pick from a few years ago. Hasn't performed that well at AFL level yet but hasn't had many opportunities and apparently has strong VFL form...but dogs have lots of young talent in their midfield.

Honestly wouldn't be that bothered if we didn't get Kelly and instead went to the draft IF we can go for some moneyball options instead like Balic & Webb...both would come cheap and add to our young midfield options. Then add a gun FA mid end of 2018.

No way should we apply or get a PP. We can do this without handouts. We have won 12 games in two years and plenty of talent on the list. The shame and stigma is too much to handle. Let's continue with the plan...the last two years we have added at least 12 decent young footballers to our list. 5 more this off season and we are rocking

FWIW - 9 of the last 16 flags have been won by teams that got "hand outs" - adding Geelong Father/Son "handouts" makes it 12 of the last 16.

We should take every advantage we can get - we are coming from a loooooong way back.

And I read the Carlton in the Media thread where folks are upset that industry 'experts' in Darcy, BT and Wayne dismiss us because we've lost 8 in a row.

If Hamish's learned colleagues don't rate us then perhaps he can speak to his brother.

I know he got dropped from the senior side earlier in the year.
Not a good sign.
