Kelly Ship could be sailing if North get Pick 1...

If he nominates North then he's an idiot. They are set for a rapid decline and stint at the bottom section of the ladder for the next 3-5 years. With the contract he'll reportedly be on they'll be tight for cap room for the next decade meaning they'll struggle to keep other quality players if and when they find them.

They're also looking to relocate them to Tasmania, that's not even a joke. To top that off, their coach is an arrogant flog.

Why would anyone want to go there?

If we added Kelly and Hopper for next season , roughly where do you see us finishing in 2018?
And what compo do you see us receiving for Casboult if he leaves?
Just to try and put the numbers together ...

I think that would be a bad move for both clubs. GWS can't afford to lose both and we can't afford to lose both of our first picks in consecutive years.

I'd rather we just target Kelly this year and go to the draft hard next year.

Pick #4 alone won't get it done though so we're going to have to be creative. Maybe if Gibbs goes to Adelaide and we get pick #10 in return we can use #4 + #10 for Kelly + GWS 2018 1st.

This allows us to hit next year's draft harder. At worst it'll be an 8 pick downgrade going from #10 in 2017 to #18 in 2018 but at best it could be only around a 5 pick downgrade.

Cuningham still unsigned. Let's imagine he's used as trade bait I'd look at:

Pick 4, Cuningham for Kelly and pick 23 (Pies 2nd)

This is assuming the worst with Cunners' contract situation and that he'd be willing to go to West Sydney. Giants would love a ready made player though.

Looks like I'll get at least on of my wants; Boekhorst won't be de-listed. Jaksch is on a knifes edge though.
We could do worse than to keep these two guys on the list for another year.
Agreed Harker. Boekhurst, Jaksch, Graham are great depth players. They are all around the 23/24 year old age group and can bring something to the senior team. Their weaknesses don't stand out as much when in a stronger team playing great team structures.

This is exactly right.
No club has 44 players on their list with the mindset and drive of a Patrick Cripps.
If enough of the right pieces are in place, players such as Jaksch & Boekhorst, who do have some genuine AFL quality traits, can fill some needs.

Graham whilst being BOG yesterday, will struggle at the highest level, unfortunately.
Have said this for a couple of years now; He plays a different game at different levels. It's like watching two different players.

Our 2018 pick would be about #10 or 11. Levi compo maybe #22.

#4, #10, #21 for the 2.

Although we may finish lower next year without Levi strangely enough.

Well , its the morning after.
Looking forward to hearing how all the revelers think we're going to pay for Kelly if he nominates us .
Oh thats right , SOS will just "weave his magic"
Lol , time to get real ...

Don't underestimate what a win like that does for the players. One thing to want to come last so we can get a player, another thing to still be angry about a win and calling people out over it the next day.

It's a little bizarro world.

We're banking on Casboult drawing band 3 compo there , lets hope so .
We're also offering a 3 for 2 trade there and that is far from ideal at this stage of our rebuild along with trading ourselves out of the first round in the next 2 drafts .
If the Giants want Raynor this year as the Stevie J replacement , pick 1 would have guaranteed him .
Nothing we can offer them now can do this and is the point i was trying to emphasize with you recently .
I totally understand a win last night will be terrific morale wise for the club but so to would have been being able to snaffle Kelly for a single pick .
We'll pay a big price for last night's win should Kelly nominate us ...

So are you saying the club should have lost deliberately or that supporters should be unhappy about the win?

Supporters who wanted to win didn't win it for us.

my take with graham is that his issue isn't his disposal but rather that he isn't instinctive and he takes the extra split second to decide what he's going to do with it. then the option isnt available/has been closed down. this gets magnified at the top level. not sure if this can be fixed though. still good depth though as he can contribute.

Who cares about speculating how we will get him . If he decides to leave and nominates Carlton it'll get done

You seem to have a bee in your bonnet over getting Kelly ? .
If we have to pay a little overs then so be it its not going to ruin the rebuild thats just dramatic to state that . Have you not considered we got Plowman for nix along with Lamb who's travelling well atm . Marchbank and wowee Pickett together . Kids Williamson Macreadie and Kerr in a 3 for 1 pick ?
The club has done a terrific job in bringing in young talent if Kelly nominates us being the huge talent he is just get the job done!! If its overs its overs its not the end of the world mate .

Call me crazy, but I think we should just continue to build through the draft and forget about trading high picks for gun players. Sure, if there is a bargain we can get for a second/third rounder go for it, but keep any top 10 pick.

Use free agency and get the guns for nothing in 2018/19/20.

Agree with this now that we have pick 4 .
Take pick 4 to the draft
Hope Casboult yields band 3 compo and try and use that pick as the guts of a trade for Hopper .
Don't want to pay what GWS will ask for Kelly now .

Me to!

Pick 4, another quality pick and cash is too much to pay at this stage of a rebuild.

It's basically 3 quality players for Kelly.

Silvagni's list management since his return has been superb .
Going to be harder now .

Sure it would have been nice to get pick 1-2, but SOS has done a great job with last years batch without that luxury. I feel we will get a very good player with any of the top 4.

Also even though Kelly is just what we need, we would have to give up too much for him - I would prefer to pass and keep building like we have been, its working - we can all see that.
