He wasn't set to go anywhere. There were rumours flying about all over the place that he'd failed medicals at several clubs, but nothing was ever proven. Kreuzer has consistently stated he doesn't want to leave Carlton and is very happy playing for us. I don't know what the monetary terms of his contract were, but I reckon me might have taken a cut to stay with us... which would fit with what we all know about him turning down a million a year contract with GWS.

And really... Kreuzer for Hopper in any sort of trade would be a win for GWS.
Only for the first few years though. Much like the Judd / Kennedy trade. Judd was great for us, but Kennedy is still playing at a very high level.
Personally, if Kreuzer has a great season and is back to his best form then we would be cutting off our noses to spite our faces. We had this argument two years ago when he first got to FA and then he came out and repaid the club with a good year... and so far this year, it looks like he is back to his best form with his work following a bounce or throw in.

Unfortunately, it is also the type of around the ground work that's going to get other clubs interested. Unless Phillips or Korchek rapidly improve, we might let go of Kreuzer and not have a decent replacement for him in the wings.

I read the article about the future prospects game on the afl site. O'Brien and Worpel both did well in a losing side. Darcy Fogarty kicked a goal for team Weitering.

I'm not all that worried at this point of the season by a poor performance as the kids are just getting back into things. I want to see how they go in the TAC cup and the nationals before making a more informed decision on who we should pick up!

Setterfield, Perryman, M.Kennedy and Sproule carving it up in the NEAFL at the moment. Why we didn't bid on Sproule, I'll never know.

Signs look good for having a massive tilt at M.Kennedy, A.Kennedy, Wilson and Hopper at the end of the year. Might be able to get a 3rd defender option out of their glut of them as well.

Kid from our local zone, apparently. First dibs, like with the northern academies.
Some conjecture as to what the bidding system is this year, with some saying it remains the same as last year, i.e. we don't get a sniff unless they hit the rookie draft.

I don't agree, as most were throwing up GWS' academy changes as a reasoning. GWS had plenty of 1-year recruits that they got to snap up, and we're talking about establishment rules for this program.

We are struggling to fit all our talls in the side at the moment as it is.

Not sold on Worpel. Can get it but not a good kick and is not quick.

He stood out because of the blond hair and every time he got the ball there were screams of "worp" coming from all over the park.

The real surprise is that none of the other 16 teams bid on him. Wonder if there are character issues because he seems like the kind of guy who should have gone late 2-3 round.
Macreadie should have been top 20, so I don't think it's a coincidence.

He's kicked 10 in two games in the reserves, albeit with a ridiculous midfield and Patton in support.

Two things, first of all, don't get carried away with NEAFL form, the standard isn't as good as you think.

Secondly, why would we go for another defender ?? This is one area that we are reasonably well stocked in at present.

Forwards and mids should be the focus if & where possible.

Getting Judd was not the issue. It was an opportunity we rightly pursued for arguably the best player at that time.

Our inability to recruit, develop and build a decent team around him was were we ****ed up!!!

We should've been challenging around the 2010/11/12 years but still had too many gaps in our list and best 22

Shame...

I'm working under the assumption that the following will be gone at the end of the year: Jones, White, Korcheck, Casboult, one of Gorringe & Phillips. One third tall defender from GWS would add a little support to that group aside from Rowe.

Nothing fancy, just whichever of Finlayson, Buntine, Himmelberg, Haynes, Corr or Mohr they will part with cheaply (and best suits us).

I know NEAFL form isn't much to write home about, but Sproule is lighting up the scoreboard, and it's their kids driving the midfield, not some senior blokes. Mohr, Simpson and Patton are the bookends, though.

Yeah, but you could see that coming a mile away which is while I objected so much at the time. We weren't in a healthy mindset at the time and you could see that it would all be about Colonel Judd and his foot-soldiers. We were trying to supplement Judd the entire time he was at the club. In hindsight, if it was going to happen at all, we should have given up pick one and kept Kennedy.

I think one of the things over looked is the impact Judd had on players. Judd took cripps under his wing and i have no doubt was instrumental in the superstar he is now.

Agreed, but the point is probably moot anyway. Doesn't have the desire to play for Carlton that Macreadie had, as far as I know. GWS would have matched the bid.
Given that they're operating with 38/4/2 this year, I wonder if it would have stretched their TPP to have Sproule on the senior list after taking DeBoer?

Still should have tested it.

Can't seem to find it, could you provide a link? Frothing at adding another gun mid next to Cripps and Samo.

Finally, someone who gets it. We overlooked Atley, Drew, Graham and D.Clarke because of disposal queries. There is no way in hell a reputed "butcher" like Worpel would be on our radar.

We do need some larger lads, having drafted "short people" and medium mids, but seriously doubt Worpel will be one, despite the chorus
around here.
