Ignoring how laughable our outgoings are compared to our incomings, WC wouldn't want White given their tall and medium defensive stocks, and GWS wouldn't want more picks at the draft; they'd want better ones.

Not sure I agree he 'looks jaded'.

If there is a Wayne Schwass / Shannon Grant deal out there for us and Murphy wanted to go, then I would not begrudge him, but I would not be pushing him if he wasn't already thinking about going.

murphy has polled coaches votes in 9 out of 11 games in a season where we have won 4 out of 11 games. jaded? hate to see him have a good year.

Honestly, I think he looks focused. He knows this is his opportunity to leave a mark on the club that lasts for a decade or more. He doesn't need to be running around having a laugh with the boys, that's not his role.

That is one of the worst ways to go about it. The club is bigger than any one player. Always has been, always will be.

I agree it would be awesome to see Simmo with a Premiership medal in a Navy Blue jumper, the reality is, we cannot rush a rebuild for him. If it happens, it happens.

What are you talking about how does Murph look jaded? He looks the same he always does.

If he was jaded he wouldn't be playing at such a high level and be our best player this year...jaded players play poorly.

And he absolutely does take shots at goal...he's kicked a few this year. He's just really good at passing to a player in a better position.
And he still takes hits to the body...but less so this year because he's playing more of an outside role, which is a good thing because this is where he's the most damaging.

Still, I can see a point in the not too distant future where we have to make a decision between loading up and staying the course. It's coming quicker than we realise.

2 more years. Shiel will be available as a FA and we must attack with all the $ we have.

If we end up with a midfield of Cripps, Shiel, Kelly, SPS, Hopper, Cuningham & LDU we won't need a forward line. But we'll have Charlie, Jack, Harry and Ben there just to make sure of it.

Sorry, but no. Simpson will be done before thats a genuine possibility. I reckon he has next year left. He already looks half a step slower than last season. Fast tracking would simply mean that we have learned nothing at all. Should he or Murphy or Kruezer finish up without a Premiership then so be it. There are many fine players who have never won them.

What would your plan of attack be, this and next year?

This is really what this thread should be about. Put yourself in SOS's shoes and map out the future of the list.
There will be plenty of ideas that don't quite work, but there will be some good ideas that warrant further discussion.

I feel:

No Free agents in 2017. One big ticket item next year.
Next years first will be on the table for the right situation (Kelly?)
We will keep this years first at just about all cost.
We will work with GWS again. Even though SOS is out of their loop, he's still smart enough to put the numbers together, to advantage.
If a band 2 or 3 is forthcoming for Casboult, he will be let go.
Even though I can see Gibbs going this year, I wouldn't be planning for it just yet.
No young players will be traded. Not McKay, nor CCurnow.....not one.

I'm hearing there has been a push by the board to land a big fish. The club is struggling with corporate support. There are some on the board who believe we need to raise the clubs profile and go for a big fish that's had plenty of marketing value. Watch this space

This was always a possibility coming from the board, no matter for all the 'patience' that has been spoken about.
Even if true, it may get closed down through process, but given our history, our membership numbers, our lack of corporate sponsors, it's hard to dismiss.

We have the most marketable player in the comp right now - Liam Jones.

Honestly, though, this is the kind of thing Bolts and SOS would shut down pretty damn quick. One player won't suddenly lift our sponsorship stocks by all that much, compared to a team that can contend for a flag for an 8-year period. Bolts will be reminding them that the club has taken a long-term view, and SOS that he has the next 4 years of recruiting meticulously planned out. Selling the farm for a "name" might tickle the wallets of a few board members, but common sense will prevail.
