Watched some highlights of Macca in the 97 Grand Final the other day and he was amazing.

He wasnt alone on that day either.

Jarman was a magician and gave Shanahan a bath in the 4th with five goals in that quarter coupled with around 20 disposals I think. Ellen bobbed up from nowhere to play FF, Plenty of kids that played the games of their lives too. I actually believed we played our grand final the week before tbh. The celebration of the prelim win was incredible. Players celebrate those wins a lot less these days.

Im pretty sure we had around 3-4 players on that day with less than 5 disposals in total.

Gives me hope if 400kay ever gets to a gf for us we can still win it.:$ :p :rainbow:

Must be a sensational team if an 8 times AA and AA captain, and Brownlow medal winner, and 3times club champion can't get a gig.

Doug Hawkins made the team on the bench. I mean ffs thats just bs. If we are talking about the best team ever, its ridiculous that he walks into that team ahead of proven champions both in big games and on grand final days.

I noticed with Ryder's rucking that he makes contact with the other ruck by jumping into him a fraction earlier than most other rucks. It puts them off and he wins the tap, borderline I would have thought.

I saw the back end of Hawkins career. Never thought of him any more than a solid club man, like a Cotchin or Marc Murphy.

Legends at their clubs but league wide, not quite elite.

Not a great player around the ground, doesn't kick goals. Thats really the one thing he has going for him.

Agree.

Im not saying he is a shit player. Just that to be ahead of players like McLeod/Hird/Diesel I mean ffs.

TBH Hawkins wouldnt even be in my top 50 players.

Dougie was better than that. He was a star wingman and damn near impossible to tackle. Mugs dont play 300 games.

Having said that, Roo was miles better.

True.

Interesting discussion.

I know a dickhead that has played 300 games, a mug is another issue though.

No doubt he was good, but not amongst the greats.

Diesel, Bucks, Hird, Roo, McLeod, Bradley etc all better

On Triple M a caller rang in saying that on social media a lot of talk about the 97 premiership players being pissed off with the club.

Anyone heard about this?

When I saw this I thought good, maybe the past players can start putting some heat on the club to start pulling their finger out.

Get the best people into the right positions, not whoever is available to fill the vacancies.

Did Kane actually say that ?

Neade is an absolute spud, it's been clear for a few years now that he won't ever make it.

Yes.
He said it.

Oh that's weak as piss Ken. Back 'em in against Brisbane at home?

I'd be furious if I was a Port fan.

I'd also be stupid, unemployed and unsure of my father's identity
.

Quoted again in case people missed it !!!!

Wingard's was hilarious.

He dives through the air and gets contact on his waist yet massively throws his head back in mid air despite absolutely no head high contact at all.

The fact that Port supporters continue to blow smoke up his ass is hilarious.

Don't get me wrong the guy is insanely talented, but is there a lazier player in the comp? He has the talent to be one of the best players in the AFL, but is held back by being an exceptionally lazy player and is one of the biggest one way runners in the AFL.

Geoffa said years ago, Port fail to develope their players. He was right.

Robbie Gray must be his mentor.
Have two really good seasons and fake it for the rest of your career. But still considered elite on the back of those two years so your job is secure.

Most of them work at the club in some capacity, they won't be putting any heat on.

Easily a great. Accolades were quite different back in the AFL and Media darling-less world that were the 70's and early to mid 80's. You got AA's by playing in the State games.

I would have Hawkins in his prime over Diesel and anyone who says different never saw the Hawk play at his peak. Robbie Flower for 2nd. And forget either of them how you pick a side of the last 50 years and leave out Keith Grieg who leaves Buckley and Bradley and Diesel in the shade is beyond me.

Pretty much just reinforces how much Walls has NFI.
