Sounds like dodgy cab driver to me no shock in this townThat taxi driver sounds like a piece of shit. How am I not surprised![]()
I've never had a bad experience????Sounds like dodgy cab driver to me no shock in this town
Just the usual crap asking if you can pay for the ride when you get in and wanting money up front. Trying to go dodgy longest ways and not liking it when you tell them the fastest way to go etc.I've never had a bad experience????
What happened to you?
Can't say I have ever been asked for payment up front.Just the usual crap asking if you can pay for the ride when you get in and wanting money up front. Trying to go dodgy longest ways and not liking it when you tell them the fastest way to go etc.

I don't see the issue with up-front payment - particularly the ones in the wee hours of the morning. So many cab drivers ripped off by people doing a bolter on arrival. Isn't Uber essentially an up-front payment? Have had many many good taxi drivers. A few not so good. I love talking to the newly arrived drivers and finding out (through their very broken English) they are often professionals that can't get their qualifications recognised. So as a means to an end, they drive cabs. Kind of sad, but shows their willingness to do whatever they can to make their new lives work. Can't say I have ever been asked for payment up front.
Also never had them deliberately take me a long way, but I normally tell them my preferred route if in adelaide.
The drivers in the industry were not as good 5 or so years ago, but imo they have cleaned it up heaps.
I'm sure that there are a few dodgy ones out there who spoil the reputation of others, but overall as regular user, I have no complaints. Touch wood.
Agreed many people do runners but the amount asked is well above the required payment. I have been asked a few times, opened my wallet to show my money and said '' I have the money'' . If they carry on I get out and get the next cab. What's wrong with cabbies asking for payment up front? That many people do runners, im surprised it's not standard.
The old "In old country I was a doctor, here I drive a cab" is a bit if a cliche...I don't see the issue with up-front payment - particularly the ones in the wee hours of the morning. It's really true (probably not for all cases, but definitely for many). The qualification recognition process in Australia for most professions is a nightmare. And also they mostly have to do a "catch-up" course at Uni (to bring them 'up' to our standards/codes) which costs a shit load of money and really difficult due to language barriers. So many under-utilised people out there. The old "In old country I was a doctor, here I drive a cab" is a bit if a cliche...
I do wonder sometimes how true it is.

I understand the issue. However it seems that a lot of cabbies from O/S make such a claim...It's really true (probably not for all cases, but definitely for many). I'm kind of okay with a very high bar for doctors from other countries to continue to practice here though. It's really true (probably not for all cases, but definitely for many).
