I think that'd be right on the money if he went to the saints.

Our forwardline has been functioning incredibly well without any real stars. Losing shache I think is a coverable loss.

With hip wood and walker pretty much locks for the next 5 years and the club rating hammer extremely highly I think we're pretty set with a nice multi dimensional forwardline. Also all 3 of these blokes are able to play forward or back.

Add skinner, mcstay and harris who are all capable of both and I really like that mix.

Ballenden looks pretty good too wouldn't be mad at all if he left however from my understanding he won't be leaving.

Yeah purely looking from a player style mix we're in a reasonable position. The one we really lack a backup for is hipwood, but he's that sort of player that is always going to be hard to find a replacement for given his skill set.

I tend to break down the talls into groups in my head.

Contested mark/Second Ruck options: currently I have Walker sitting in this space with Ballenden having the ideal skillset to sit here providing he develops

Leading options: Close, Schache, Hammer (funnily enough on a pure leading forward option I see Hammer as possibly the best of the lot in that sort of role long term given his leading patterns at reserves level, with Schache not far behind)

Freaks: Hipwood

Other options: McStay, Skinner - both these guys possess skills that could see them partly cover for hipwood down the track if needed given their athletic qualities but both have big ?'s up forward at this stage. then you've got Freeman, who I would see skillset wise in the first group, although I just don't think he'll make it.

So of our group I see the Schache role as probably our deepest as of next year albeit none of those names are certain or even great options yet. I also think that you can get away with someone in the late 180's/ early 190's in that role if you have a walker/ballenden and Hipwood as talls up front.

He is now contracted for another 2 years so very happy to see how he developes. However if an offer came from another club that was to good to refuse you would have to look at it. Something like Schache and paps for Collingwood's 1st and Sidebottom. Then I would try and move port's 1st and our 2nd for a top 8 and mid to late 2nd from St Kilda. That would leave us 3 top 8 picks this year plus Sidebottom.

Understand the other two but St Kilda? I know reiwoldt is retiring but they've got Bruce, Mccartin and membrey still up there and Carlisle if necessary as well as Josh Battle who finishes school at the end of the year. Look agree they're not super flush, but i wouldn't say they're desperate.

Bruce has spent time in the twos, question over mccartins durability, membrey is a third for mine only 6'2. Carlisle back. Desperate might be an overstatement, but in the market.

There's no need to try to sum it up with some sort of statement like that trying to frame it like people are talking about throwing him away. Honestly its a lazy and poor representation of what people are talking about.

There's more to it than just he was a pick 2 now he's worth x. People are just speculating based on an assumption that he may want to head back home and how it could benefit us. If he does want to go back to VIC then I tend to look at it as a chance to refine our list balance a little. Basically we're currently a little top heavy albeit still short of developed quality options. The ability to turn him into 2 x young mids/hb or 1 x young mid and a player isn't a horrible option.

Clug and Witherden are a bit different. Both are playing well and are in a position that we have a strong need in the medium term.

Personally I'd rather keep him and see him develop into a great KPP for us in 2-5 years but that doesn't preclude us from debating what a trade would look like if he did leave.

You guys just seem to love the circle of misery. We've signed up.almost everyone that we want to keep who are out of contract. Yet still we speculate on who were going to lose.

Why not just relax & if the unexpected comes up in trade week then we go nuts.

Whenever the next person does want to leave it will be a self fulfilling prophecy cos we would've speculated about every possible thing that could go wrong anyway.

I'm starting to wonder if there is something to the theories of "Josh, the only way to take the pressure and scrutiny off yourself is to sign a contract. We can still trade you at seasons end if you want but the current situation is bad for all of us."

No inside word, but there is a lot of smoke. I agree if it happens it is an unusual and almost unprecedented situation, but on the flipside of that, it would be a particularly odd thing for a few people in the media to fixate on if they didn't think there was something to it.

The cynic in me pondered as much when he actually signed. I agree there's a fair bit of smoke around, which usually indicates there's some substance to it, but the more you think about it the more far-fetched it becomes.

Why sign a guy and subsequently bathe in all the feelgood media that came with the announcement only to trade him 6 months later? Why would the manager agree to such a situation when Schache could just as easily step away from the spotlight ala McCarthy and Balic? Additionally, the club loses any leverage it has in trade negotiations when it tries to threaten "he's a contracted player, if you don't play ball he'll be on our list next year" because it has already been agreed with the manager.

I suggest either A) Schache's personal situation has changed since signing or
B) the club, rather than Schache, is looking at a trade.

I can't think of any.

Dom Tyson was someone who signed a deal and then got traded in the same year (Feb & Oct 2013, respectively), but he was approached by the club rather than asking to be traded. I'm struggling to think of any other examples of that either.

Who's coming at it from a misery point of view? Most of the posts i've read have postured that it may not be a horrible thing list management wise that it may have been a few years or even 12 months ago. Someone leaving a club doesn't have to be a negative thing it can be mutually beneficial.

He was referring to Adelaide’s double standards over Brisbane’s interest in Charlie Cameron and their own very public courtship of Carlton’s Bryce Gibbs last year.

Fagan delivered the dig to Pyke and the Crows when asked how he felt the football industry handled potential player movements.

“I think we handle it well when we are the chasers, we don’t handle it so well when we are the victims,” he said.

“But we choose to be the chasers often, all clubs do.”

Brisbane are regular targets of interstate poaching raids but interest from Cameron in returning home to Queensland suggests the shoe may now be on the other foot for the Lions and there will be no apology from Fagan or anyone at the club for a new era of aggressive recruiting that will take place over the next two years.

Hmm. Not sure gws would have knocked back the 2× first rounders they were offered the year prior with hindsight . Probably a better outcome for freo, but schache certainly worth more then a solitary first rounder considering most media had his value at that before he was re-contracted. Would perfer to keep him but if he must go it should be to our advantage if not overs in our favour

Is there any more reported news on the Schache front or is it just the stuff from last week? Just because people in the media spent 2 months photoshopping him into a Richmond jumper and haven't given up on it yet doesn't mean there is any truth to anything.

If he does end up requesting a trade at the end of the year he should fire his agent. There is literally no good reason to sign if he is thinking of requesting a trade, as he loses all leverage and the club could refuse to trade him. He won't have received any pay increase this year either (still on the draftee contract which can't be increased so any pay increase from his deal kicks in next year).

It also hasn't exactly removed the attention or pressure on him.
