Labelling him a "thug" is pretty harsh IMO

Admittedly, he's had a bit of history with a couple of our players...Rocky, Stef .... but if he wanted to come to us, I'd embrace him with open arms.

He admitted he stuffed up with the Stef incident and I Reckon Rocky could forgive and forget if it meant getting him to the Lions.

He's got genuine leadership qualities and I'd rate him second only to Rance as a last line defender.

It's probably all irrelevant though.

If he leaves GC it's probably for the bright lights in Melbourne

From my perspective, he played the man on both occasions. The Stef incident IIRC happened not weeks after Justin Clarke retired from a single concussion. It also followed a year on from the incident with Rockliff where he very clearly played the man and not the ball. He apologised and may have been utterly sincere, but both choices put players in real and unnecessary danger. That, IIRC, happened a year on from an incident where he hit Zorko high and initially was sent to the Tribunal but got off.

I'm not concerned especially with whether "thug" stands up. I have issues with his choices as a player.

Knowing he's almost a certainty to be drafted by Brisbane he could be lacking in motivation. Or just tanking ;)
As I mentioned previously, Noble and Fagan told our support group in Melbourne, they are yet to be convinced, and have no firm choices in mind , as yet...nor should they until the Tac finals.

Nakia looks like he needs a fresh start, somewhere with a decent fitness team and warmer weather..... I know just the place!

I dunno, he looked like he was auditioning for a state of origin spot when he tried to run over Schofield and was caught holding in his own defensive 50. The footy smarts, they just aren't there.

Don't worry guys. I've figured it all out...

I like that you have made the effort but so many things wrong.
1. We aint getting Parish, he loves it in Essendon and aint going nowhere. Also, Essendon would never do that deal
2. Cameron would be pick 18 just by itself, they wouldn't give us anything back.
3. Hopper is apparently going to Melbourne, secondly even if we did miraculously get him for a pick 7 they wouldn't give us 25 in return.
4. Dont think we are going to rookie list one of the forwards imo.
5. I know you put a question mark in front but Mitchell isn't coming over. He specifically went to Eagles so he could coach over there.
6. I like the idea of bring in Cox's bro, l would also bring in Berry's bro next year as well.

I didn't think it was too far off the mark (sans the stuff about Parish and Hopper and the fact that we seemed to end up with pick 24 and 25, and yet somehow didn't have to use 24 to match a bid on Ballenden, but did have to use 25...?)

My go:

Keep:
Tom Rockliff
Nick Robertson
Dan McStay
Jake Barrett (upgrade)
Oscar McInerney (rookie)
Blake Grewar (rookie)
Mitchell Hinge (rookie)

TBA:
Close vs Freeman
Ryan Harwood
Cian Hanley
Matt Eagles

Delist:
Jono Freeman/Michael Close (delist one, re-rookie one??)
Jarrad Jansen
Claye Beams
Josh Clayton
Matt Hammelmann (rookie)
Reuben William (rookie)

Trade In:
Cameron for 18 (please)

Draft:
Pick 1
Pick 11-14 (plz lose elimination final cheers Port ta)
Possibly a PP @ pick 18??
Wouldn't spend too much on Ballenden, he is a long term forward/ruck prospect, I certainly wouldn't use Port's pick to match. I'd be hopeful he'll slide (as more players present themselves in the champs) and he doesn't get bid on until the 20s. Payne is a late pick and not worth losing too much sleep over, match if the bid is greater than 50 or so.

Re-rookie:
Jono Freeman/Michael Close. Actually like this idea, give one of them 2 years on the rookie list, insurance if Schache leaves in 2 years time. Alternatively look for a better 21-25 year old KPF in the state leagues and if there is one out there better than a Close + Freeman then take him and delist both.

Claye Beams has run his race I think. I'm guessing we'll give Hinge and Grewar more than one year to establish themselves and don't think we'll pay out any contracts - unfortunately Frost and Bell are on good money (relative to their ability), Bell at least is a handy neafl player, and has a proven record in the 1s if he can return to his form of 2015. Who knows maybe we've got space in the cap and paying them out is a convenient way to get to 95%. Would love to see the TPP spreadsheet.

Just my speculation, and built upon what Schwab and Leppitsch liked to do, so will likely prove to be completely wrong. The trade/FA period will probably change everything of course.

No way we would be bringing in brothers of players currently at the club unless they are clearly rated on our draft board as at that level when the pick comes up on draft night. I know it could be difficult to create this many list spots but here is my current dream draft/trade period, get it done boys.

Pick 1- Luke Davies-Uniacke/Jaidyn Stephenson
Ports 9-12- Jack Higgins/Lochie O'Brien.
Pick 18- James Worpel/Jack Higgins/Lochie O'Brien/Paddy Dow

+ Connor Ballenden and Jack Payne.

Rookie- Liam Ryan.

Trade in- Charlie Cameron.

Hopefully Cameron is keen on the lions and not the coasters...
I'm a bit worried about-
Matera to the Eagles
Cameron to the Suns
Eagles first round pick to the Crows.

I like what Cameron has to offer but if be reluctant to give up a top 18 picks. Inconsistent. If we could get another second rounder I'll be more comfortable trading that.
Yep absolutely right. We dont have to look far for comparison if hanley was worth 10-15 contracted, I would argue that cameron would be worth early second rounder at the most. Ultimately we are at the mercy of the market, however if he were to nominate us then I believe thats where his value sits

Would like to think noble has some big plans for our trading and free agency period. Wouldn't be surprised if we strengthened our position in next years draft. Going to be a bumper crop

What's everyone's thoughts on Andrew swallow and jack Trengove, could be handy for what we could get them for and both have good leadership qualities for our young group.

If we lose Rocky, then yes. If not, I reckon we're starting to get the balance right between youth and experience, particularly if we can keep that senior core on the park in 2018. I'm not completely opposed and I've got time for both but I just don't know we absolutely need to add another mid/late twenties onballers onto the list.

yes I think you're pretty spot on there, I would be apposed to it if the club thought it was a good fit but wouldn't want to see someone's development stalled

I believe that Stef might be traded at seasons end. I have it on reasonably good authority that the club will offer Oscar Mcinerney a 2 year contract extension and upgrade him to the senior list next year. This coupled with the games they are now pumping into Archie may signal that they are willing to part ways with Martin while his value is still relatively high.

I've been thinking about this for a while. The problem is there's no market for a ruck who's 30+.

Here's the top 8
GWS - Mumford
Adelaide - Jacobs
Geelong - Stanley/Smith
Port - Ryder
Melbourne - Gawn
Richmond - Nankervis
West Coast - Nic Nat
Essendon - Leuenberger/Bellchambers

They are pretty well set, and if you're a bottom team you're not going to break the bank for a ruck with 3-4 years max left. Also worth considering that one of Goldstein/Preuss could be on the move at season's end, which further hurts our position.

The best we could hope for is the Bulldogs, but they've got away without playing a proper ruck for a while now... Even so you're probably looking at their second rounder in return

A future second rounder would be a great result IMO. The 2018 draft is looking very special.

Yep, but it looks like the Bulldogs or nothing (IMO). Their second rounder this year could be valuable (I expect Ballenden to fall as the year goes on) or next year's. Hopefully they write this year off as premiership hangover and back themselves in to improve in 18, which would mean they're more open to moving a 2018 second rounder (30-40 range).

I'd go for that
