Close deserves another year and we need the depth. I'm starting the Close bandwagon. Get on board. Still young for a KPF and his running is something to build on. Plays team football.

My gut feeling is that Hammer has better ground skills than Freeman so would be more inclined to try to keep Hammer and trade Freeman. If Ballenden is the prototype forward/ruck, then he would take Freeman's role for mine, and Freeman doesn't impress me at all when rucking. We can't develop them all, without disrupting the balance of the twos.

I've been really impressed by Eagles's marking. His age is probably against him, but I'd love to see him play that forward-ruck role. Anyway, probably not going to happen.
Agree with all that:thumbsu:, I've been impressed with Matty Eagles too, (via live stream) has played pretty well as a KPD as well, IMO he shows more than Jack Frost.

Wondering why Freeman is our only forward not to be given games this season has been one of our best forwards in the NEAFL obviously he isn't in Fagans plans for the future but you would think he would be given a go has played well at AFL level
I think Jono has been a bit unlucky not to be given a chance in the seniors this season thus far however early in the season his body language was pretty ordinary and second efforts were not there. Maybe that has hurt his chances!! In saying that, his second half of the year has been pretty good.

He has no defensive pressure and when we often go tall, this hurts his chances. He isn't great off the ground but is a good contested mark.

I think we trade or delist him.

He just doesn't have it. Doesn't have white line fever. Never seems all that emotionally invested. Plenty of tools but needs some swagger.

As bad as this sounds -
"He needs to get some Matho into him".
He has got plenty of swagger.
But it is also something Schache needs to improve on as well for him to become the player we all know he can be.

Lack of urgency in his play, just wants to sit back and take the odd speccy, but won't do the hard work

Steve Motlop and Menzel are small forwards in Geelong who are restricted and unrestricted free agents this year respectively.

Motlop has been mostly down last couple of years, but we get him for free, fills a need, and if I recall correctly hes good mates with Bundy, away from the spotlight maybe he can get his hunger back, because his best is absolutely sublime and an xfactor we clearly miss

Menzel, well I'm sure he wants to repay the faith Geelong has repeatedly shown in him, but then again he would also want a payday given the run hes had and with time running out on his career?

Not necessarily free. Depends on what happens with Rockliff.

Jon Raphl said on SEN last night he believes Christensen wants out not sure if I believe him just what I heard him say was shocked because I thought Christensen was loving it at the Lions

surely he does end up staying and with him being restricted guess we will have a big say on the outcome of what we get.

we have been shafted on this before, if I do recall correctly we were given the advice by the afl that Leunbergers compensation would have been second round, and then one of the reasons we overlooked getting Suckling..and ended up getting end of second round

has been mentioned on his roster threat that the club is not too impressed with his extra curricular activities, would be some truth to it then if he does leave

Bundy is part of the leadership group & from what I am lead to believe, a fantastic role model for the younger boys. Hard to believe that his behaviour is something different to what is expected of a member of the leadership group.

And is now the face of a campaign to lead indigenous youth away from such issues.

No truth to it..

I haven't heard about these supposed 'extra curricular' activities that he is alleged to have been involved in, however..

I have been told by someone who was 'close enough' to dealing with his injury that he wasn't too happy with how the injury was originally treated and then subsequently when he re-injured it I believe he put a bit of blame towards the club and how it was initially treated.

I think a bit of frustration towards what is quite a bizarre injury is understandable. I'd be very surprised if Bundy was thinking of going anywhere.

Six AFL players who could do with a career re-boot
Allir Allir (Sydney Swans)
On the list:
Four years
Played: 16 games

There’s something going on behind the scenes with big Aliir at Sydney that has seen him fall out of favour.

2016 looked like a breakout year, and while his three games this season haven’t been amazing, you’d think at only 22 John Longmire would want to be pumping games into a key defender who can run, jump and sell memberships.

Would suit: A Queensland side. There’s no doubt both the Lions and Suns would love a player of Aliir’s potential, and he grew up in the Sunshine State after moving to Australia when he was seven.

Jimmy Toumpas (Port Adelaide)
On the list:
Five years (Three at Melbourne, two at Port)
Played: 37 games

Two clubs for not much return doesn’t make a player too attractive to potential buyers, but it does make him cheap!

Toumpas was a number four draft pick and has shown he can play football, he just needs to buckle down and be prepared to put in some hard work – something that often happens when a player knows he’s on a last chance.

Would suit: The Eagles need more youth than they can get through the draft alone, so it’s possible they could swoop with a late round pick trade. In return Toumpas would get a chance to put a string of games together and find some consistency.

Jesse White (Collingwood)
On the list:
10 years (Six at Sydney, four at Collingwood)
Played: 127 games

The jury has always been out on White, a strong marking but wayward kicking key forward who can go missing for long stretches, but on the rare occasions that he’s switched on he can be unstoppable.

At 29 he’s no Spring chicken but could have four years left in him, and would come cheap to a club looking for a second tall forward or just depth while younger big men progress.

Would suit: White is a Queenslander and maybe going home to a sunny climate would bring out his best. Brisbane could do with his big body to take a bit of the heat off Eric Hipwood and Josh Schache while they put on some meat.

Matt Taberner (Fremantle Dockers)
On the list:
Five years
Played: 50 games

Taberner doesn’t seem to be one of Ross Lyon’s favourites, which can severely limit opportunities at Fremantle, but the key forward has shown plenty of ability and at 24 is ready to hit the best years of a big-man’s career.

A rookie draft pick initially, and with a stop-start career so far, Taberner could come cheap to a team looking for a player who could be anything.

Would suit: Richmond has tried and failed to find support for Jack Riewoldt within their ranks and were targeting Josh Schache until he re-signed at the Lions. Taberner, a Victorian, would be a low-risk option while they take another young forward in the draft.

Anthony Miles (Richmond)
On the list:
Six years (Two at GWS, four at Richmond)
Played: 68 games

Miles has fallen out of the Tigers’ best 22 with Dion Prestia and Josh Caddy coming in, and the development of Daniel Rioli and Shai Bolton as future midfielders, as well as the anticipated drafting of father-son option Patrick Naish, will see even less opportunities ahead.

Miles has definitely shown he’s happy to work hard and is a no-risk pick up for a club looking for an inside midfielder prepared to put his body on the line while others do the finishing.

Would suit: Sydney will be losing Jarrad McVeigh and Kieren Jack, making space that Miles could slot into seamlessly. He won’t eat up much of the salary cap and is a New South Welshman, which never hurts.

Tom Campbell (Western Bulldogs)
On the list:
Six years
Played: 42 games

It’s been a tough career so far for Campbell with injuries limiting his opportunities early and then having Luke Beveridge preferring to use mobile big men Tom Boyd and Jordan Roughead in the ruck.

When given a chance recently Campbell has shown he’s up for the job, and at 25 he’s in the prime slot for a ruckman.

Would suit: Most clubs like their rucks mature-age so Campbell wouldn’t be short of suitors. Collingwood needs support for Brodie Grundy and with Campbell’s improved mobility he could be a better second ruck/tall forward option than Mason Cox.

Yeah, not sure the writer has much of an idea given he thinks Jesse White would be a good fit for the Lions.

The only one on that list I would be interested in would be Allir Allir, would not be giving anything more than a 3rd rounder though. Maybe we could trade Jack Frost for him;).

Really loved his form last year. Jesse White pfttt, no way.

I'm fairly sure Aliir just hasn't shown enough discipline for Longmire's liking, which is why Melican and Marsh have gone past him. I doubt the Swans would be looking to move him on with Grundy being pretty close to retirement.

Also lol at "the eagles need more youth so they should recruit toumpas". Really?

Why Toumpas was a top 10 pick:D
Sorry couldn't say that with a straight face
