From the Saints board... wouldn't say no to this.
So we get picks 1,8,9 and Ports pick all before a bid on Ballenden, hopefully.
Wouldnt say no to that.

The focus was on kicking because he's a terrible kick. If it's not accuracy, it's decision making and slow decision making like someone else said earlier in this thread.

His pressure is nonexistent when it's an uncontested situation. He lets players just pass him with very little effort. His tackling numbers are generally very poor, too.

Would have been a bit strange if I randomly started blurting out a mini essay on why I think Stef isn't that good, so that's why I didn't really feel the need to back anything up. o_O
Oh right. In a discussion about trades and specifically in the middle of a conversation about trading Martin, you were just making a passing observation about his kicking ability.

It sounds great.

Where it potentially unravels is when it makes Rockliff close to the Saints best paid player. Even if salary cap space isn't an issue, I don't know clubs will pay really big overs to a player even if there is a payoff in other trades.

I put my head in my hands every time Stef goes for any sort of nuanced kick, he should either handball it off or go long to a contest. He also squibs contests quite regularly and is next to useless as a forward.

I would really like us to give Matty Eagles an extended go in the ruck in the NEAFL, I know hard with the big O and Arch there but Matty really cracks in at every contest and from what I have seen in the NEAFL his disposal and marking ability is at least on a par with Stef.

Rocky is the missing piece of the premiership puzzle for the saints. 1 mill a year is cheap for premiership glory- and potentially 3 years in a row at that. Their window is open and I'd be throwing the kitchen sink at a machine like Rocky.

Off the top of my head
OOC: Eagles, Freeman, Close, Hammelmann, William, Grewar, Jansen, CBeams, Harwood, Clayton, Hinge, Hanley
Contracted: Bell, Frost, Bewick, Paparone, Dawson, Lyons, Keays, Martin, Schache

These players could realistically all go this off season if you could find better prospects to replace each player in the draft/rookie draft/trade/free agency. But I think it would be an unwise move to ship out core senior players aged 27 and under.

Keep Eagles, CBeams, Hanley & Keays. Trade/delist/pay out the others. I think we have to keep Schache.

That would mean Freeman, Close, Jansen, Harwood, Clayton, Bell, Frost, Bewick, Paparone, Dawson, Lyons & Martin off the senior list. 12 senior list changes.

Hopefully bring in Cameron & McKenna and that's a significant injection of speed. Mason Cox in to share ruck duties with Archie & Oscar. Bring in McVeigh for the leadership and experience. Promote Hammelman and Barrett.

I don't think St Kilda is in premiership contention just yet. This year seemed to prove that they need to keep building rather than look for an instant solution. A Josh Kelly fits for them due to his youth but throwing a max contract at an older, injured player is not a good move for them IMO.

Well some on the Saints board seem to think Kelly, Martin, Rocky and Lever are pretty much OTL. Not sure if it's the case or not (highly doubt it to the point it's not really worth saying this...) but if they do manage to land those they will be in premiership window IMO.
Of course they arent OTL, don't have enough stuff to trade for them

The only two I hope stay off your list is Dawson and Lyons. Dawson was constantly in our best in the NEAFL and was given a couple of go's in the ones. He is slowly maturing but there is an AFL player in him. Lyons was in his first year as a pick 50 something out of last years draft and given basically no chance of playing seniors this year, but by seasons end he was knocking at the door, Lyons has a future, needs an opportunity and more time, he's 19.
The rest can go for mine.

Quality argument going on here.

Can just see Dawson playing for Collingwood for some reason.
Lyons okay yeah let's keep him.

4mil worth of players there. Bit special on the saints board I think

It's not possible to delist a drafted player on the senior list, before he serves out 2 years, is it? eg Lyons? I don't know for sure, but seems unlikely to me. It's certainly not sending a good message to young guys about coming here, if we turf them after a year. No way should Lyons be delisted, he has potential and we drafted him. He needs another year, then see where he's at.

I'm not opposed to change, but 12 changes on the senior list (not counting changes to rookies) is huge. Might even be a record. I can't see how you would build a culture that people want to be a part of by doing all that in one year. Will be pretty shocked if Fagan & Noble move 30% of our senior players on, especially considering their age profile.

I agree but a doz changes need to be made this year and next to be a finals team. Doing it over two yrs shouldnt be so hard.

well i wont tell you what i would do the year after then !!! i'm harsh due to the pain endured over the last too many years.what the club will do will be different but will be illuminating-what they say, what they do.geelong turned over 10 players last year after finishing second.fagan has said that squads win premierships and clearly we need a better list, surely something everyone agrees with.how bold and brave will they be in the context of the hopium being sold at the player, supporter and club level ? things must change but how slowly ?

I am honestly 100% with you on the quality of the list, just think the system puts a great limit on how quickly you can turnover a list without an influx of heaps of 18 year old very low draft picks, who I see as having no value at all.

1. Joel Patfull was a significantly better player.

2. GWS were able to pay well overs due to the fact they had such a glut of young talent and picks.

3. Joel was also 29 when traded IIRC not 31.

4. Joel also did not have the career injury history that Stefan has.
Stef hasn't had issues with injury for quite some time. Body is good to go for a few years yet.
