Agreed.
And forgot about Karpany, he is already depth in this position, we need somebody with a point of difference, a bit like Rioli (who is no guarantee to make it).

Both Darling and JJK have played 11 finals.
JK only has 3 more goals.

Darling really gets mislabeled.

Darling is tracking along okay- his numbers are exactly what are needed from a second fiddle tall, and there have been small, incremental improvements in his game this year- particularly late in the season he stood up and delivered in some key moments in crunch games.

I think he gets judged more harshly because people forget how quickly he has gotten to 150 games for a key forward- to put things in perspective, at 25 he's kicked 271 goals- at the same age Josh Kennedy had kicked 167 and hadn't yet played 100 games.

More than that, he's critical from a list management perspective because he'll be entering his prime years just as JK starts to wind down- it is reasonable to think he's still several years away from his best football, which usually hits for key forwards when they are aged about 27-29, its uncertain whether he will be able to step up to being the key target, but he's a very good bet at the moment, and when he gets asked to be the central key forward he will have a wealth of experience and a large number of goals under his belt.

One observation about his game style- because of his fairly limited height and reach I think he needs to lose weight and stop going for the low percentage wrestle and contested mark so often- particularly if he's going to be the main man in the forward line in coming years, he should be trying to develop a Nick Reiwoldt calibre tank and using his pace and agility to torch taller defenders through constant leading. Guys like Vardy can stay at home behind him.

Darling makes up for his shorter height with a ridiculous wingspan. His effective reach is fine.

Rockliff and Hall would be pretty good short term options imo. Rockliff is in the Jk Nic Nat age bracket so would give us one last little push. Hall pressures Jetta for his wing and possibly trade away Gaff for a high first rounder.

Anyone have any idea how much Hall would set us back in terms of picks? We could potentially get out of this trade period with Rockliff (free) Hall (?) Kelly (3rd) Ryan (3rd) and 2 top 15 draft picks. Those guys would all add to our midfield depth. Along with hopefully 2 more gun mids with the first rounders. Forward like and backline are set (will look a lot better with a decent midfield)

By the time Rockliff Hall kennedy etc are done we will have our young guys hopefully playing more consistently. Obviously between now and then we need to be giving guys like Sheed Duggan Yeo game time through the middle. These Rockliff and Hall additions would offset the midfield experience lost and give the young guys a couple more years, rather than have a completely inexperienced midfield and waste the best spine weve possibly ever had.

Need to draft a tough mid with 13. Clarke or Brayshaw. Hall isnt a tough inside mid. Decent player but we have enough down hill skiers.

An aging and clearly injured Lecras averaged more disposals, more tackles and more goals this year than Fasolo.Yet people are throwing tantrums about him going on and want to trade for Fasolo

Shouldn't be wasting any time or our very limited tradeable resources on him. Mids, mids and more mids (and a genuine crumbing/PRESSURE fwd)

Anyone seen much of Haiden Schloithe? what sort of mid is he?

Was on the Freo list for a bit, also known for his ducking which he probably learnt from Walters.

Looka like fasolo heading west
In all honesty whats a fair outcome?
Player or draft pick
Fwiw dont think tom lamb gets this done
Dissapointing from fasolo his a good player

No to straight swaps for any of our first rounder, Barrass or Darling which have been floated on your board :P

I love how Simpson is talking about a "completely new looking list", and yet next minute will probably retain all three of le cras, wellingham and Masten.

I could live with le cras on our list.......if, for the first time ever simpson would drop him when form warrants, or keep him on the list for depth. Which he won't.

I do not want to be mercenary here but Fasolo has had pretty harsh depression problems this year meaning there is a giant red flag.

He wants to come home and the issue may well be that to save his mental health, he needs to come home. Staying in Melbourne may well be the end of his career meaning Perth is the only option. It may well save you a payout a la Mitch Clarke.

For these reasons, he is probably worth a 3rd round pick. Without the mental health it would probably be higher. I expect any future contract will be heavily weighted on incentives and less guaranteed which in a city he calls home is possibly adding to stress.

My expectation is that a trade is more likely on the cards. Who do we have at that level that would be of value to you? Either Schofield (you are not exactly inundated with height down back) or Lamb (he is behind Darling and Yeo meaning he is unable to break in). Otherwise, how about Wellingham? Freo are quite blessed with smaller forwards with Frodo and Walters so will probably not be interested.

I personally would rather keep our 3rd round and give players that are depth for us and short for you.

I dunno, the team without best 25 players in Priddis, Mitchell and Petrie, then add Butler and the few other players who will get the chop, yeah it will be a new looking list.

Both Wellingham and Masten are depth, LeCras will either be best 25 or depth.

Well that is interesting stats. And Le cras missed more games, Fasolo missed one.

We may need to use 30 on Kelly after his runners up in the Sandover!

Thats what should happen but we seem to be overly nice at the trade table.
