Fair enough, happy with your insights.. I have been to Perth a handful of times and I reckon you all are underplaying how good the city is. Plenty of players from Vic particularly from Country areas hate living in Melbourne because of traffic and how busy everything is and Perth has the advantage of amazing weather. Personally i would much rather wake up everyday living in Cottesloe or City Beach than in Stkilda or Essendon.

It's not the city. It's the extra requirements for the job. Plenty of draftees who end up here stay here: Pavlich, Hurn, Waters to name a few. However the routine which adds fly out Thursday, hotels, fly home Saturday evey second week instead of drive 30 minutes and live at home, is the absolute killer.

Why do players bail on non-Victorian clubs? Travel (and shit football city in the case of Brisbane). Why do big name West Aussies stay in Melbourne? Travel. Why can't we poach guys from Gold Coast? No idea actually.

Biggest name player Eagles have ever traded in? Probably Tyson Stenglein, a West Aussie. Non-West Aussie? Farrk. Pick one of Andy Lovell, Illja Grgic, Sam Mitchell, Nathan Vardy or Jack Redden.

Uh, what about the dude we got for pick 88 in last year's draft?

the idea of trading lycett makes me sick to the stomach. vardy has been injury prone his entire life and has been very lucky this season however who is to say he wont fall over again. for the record lycett has had more games than vardy. if we got rid of lycett and vardy went down leaving nic nat with all the work itd shaft us hard. and with giles leaving i think we need to draft another ruckman to protect the squad.

With Petrie retired and Giles knee stuffed we actually need another ruck inthe squad even with Lycett still here. If he was traded we would need two new rucks.

So unless someone offered overs for him which they won't he stays.

It was probably Daniel Chick for us I reckon, Hawthorn were filthy. Freo snagging Ben Allen of them was a similar situation and maybe one of their biggest feats, although proportionally they've done a lot better than us attractive big names. Tony Modra, Trent Croad, to a lesser extent Cam McCarthy, Brad Hill, Harley Bennell. Can't think of a highly rated victorian ever coming over in their prime though. It does surprise me that to date a gun mid at a middling club hasn't identified the career opportunity to come over here, get paid overs and just spend the rest of their career dining out on Nic Nats tap work and raking in Brownlows left and right for massive money and warm weather. I wonder if its because as a club we tend to have a habit of rewarding homegrown talent who realistically aren't going to leave anyway with above market value deals and have never had the salary cap room or financial recklessness to make anyone a genuine can't say no offer.

One of the few ways that can change is having a customised and dedicated aircraft to transport teams. Clubs in Europe and the US have customised aircraft.

The AFL should incorpoate this into the sponsorship deal they have with Virgin or whoever it is.

A minimum of three teams every week would utilise it on the long haul East West route both Wa sides and visiting non Wa sides. Depending on schedules othe interstate short haul flights could also use the airframe.

It could also be used in the off season for other codes or simply reconfigured back to normal.

Its not impossible nor cost averse. All about revenue hours and utilisation.

Dont ask, dont get.. Not every player wants to play in Melbourne and Perth has a lot to offer. West Coast has a reputation as a big club like Collingwood, Essendon etc and sure it was tainted over the Cousins, Kerr stuff but I would think a big club like WCE would be far more attractive to a potential recruit than a team like North Melbourne or St Kilda.

I honestly think the 'go home' factor is over played. In NBA players leave home at 18 to go to college and spend there whole careers away from home, in Soccer players travel all over the world to play sport. If the offer is right and the club environment is strong enough it should not be a factor.
How do you know the club doesn't ask?

A lot of the city raised Melbournians probably wouldnt put much value on a coastal beach lifestyle and would much rather live in Fitzroy or Collingwood than Leederville or Subiaco. But i get your point.

Why would a relic of the VFL go out of their way to help non-Victorian teams contend for a premiership? Yeah, I'm very much one of those guys. There's no reason for the AFL to help out WA footy, because we're financial as it it, and unlikely to change in the near to mid term future. We contribute money to the competition without regularly stealing the flag. What's not to like?

I think that was Jack Redden. All the West Aussie ones at Gold Coast haven't realised the shit of a situation they're in yet. Everyone else is brainwashed that their club will look after them.

I thought I said "gun mid" looking to snag a couple of Brownlows. I can see a Sandover in Reddens future perhaps but he's no Matt Priddis. Its one, not the other, and certainly not both for Jack "inside bull we weren't really looking for" Redden. Jack Martin for the win.

As stated on Saturday Mark Lecras 1 yr deal on reduced terms. Announcement imminent

Considerably reduced one would hope. Seeing as he only plays a decent game, one in three.
The only worry is that Simpson doesn't drop him when he is not in form, that said if his selection in the side is performance based I can live with him getting another year.

The reality is he doesn't chase anymore so that just puts more pressure on our midfield and HBL.
If he isn't scoring goals then he contributes Jack Shit to the team.

Would hate for Watermans, Venables, Partington's careers to be held back by an under performing Le Cras.
