Indicative draft picks: 13, 30, 48, 67, 85

Delisted: Simon Tunbridge

Retired: Sam Butler, Paddy Brophy, Jonathan Giles, Sam Mitchell, Drew Petrie, Matt Priddis

Unsigned free agents: None

What they said: "Obviously we'd love another A-grade midfielder – they're very difficult to get - and a small forward as well. If we thought we could get the right player we'd look at the best way we could to achieve that for our footy club." – football manager Craig Vozzo.

Whispers: The Eagles are in the midst of a clean-out as they look to regenerate their list.

Out-of-favour midfielder Chris Masten is contracted until 2019 but will almost certainly be on the trade table, while out-of-contract defender Sharrod Wellingham's future is unlikely to be decided until the end of the trade period. One player West Coast won't want to part with is hard-running midfielder Andrew Gaff. The Victorian is contracted for 2018 but is being circled by St Kilda and Hawthorn. The Eagles will look to short-circuit that interest and prevent Gaff from becoming a free agent at the end of next season by re-signing him to a long-term deal this summer. Earlier this year, Eagles coach Adam Simpson identified a small forward as the club's No.1 list management priority, with contracted Magpie Alex Fasolo a likely target. Fasolo is due to become a free agent at the end of next season, but Eagles football manager Craig Vozzo recently said the club would seriously consider trading for him this year. However, West Australian Suns small forward Brandon Matera is set to join Fremantle early in the trade period.

Sounds like a quiet trade period for us.... I wish we would be aggressive with our trades look at what Richmond did with a couple of key trade ins

Boom.

Seriously though, would like us to get more into the RFA and FA game. Get to keep our draft picks.

Agree we have to otherwise we are gonna be a middle of the road team..... otherwise we should trade out players for picks and start again.. have to go down to go up

Well thats sounds downright vanilla and disappointing. But the club does play its cards close to its chest.

O'Brien's shopping list when draft time comes around:

Then of coarse his absolute favourite the Vanilla Soft Scoop.

He has more shades of cream , off white, beige than Richie Benaud had jackets.

We traditionally do not broadcast our targets so no need to get depressed this early.

I am wondering what impact there will be when the AFL eliminate the bounce. I expect the higher leaders will be advantaged which will help both NN and Lycett. It is wrong that the rule changes occur after drafting and trading.

Thinking maybe they are waiting for the best and fairest to be over next weekend before we find out about our departures and targets

Oh god, Fasolo (who isn't a small forward he's a medium) is a free agent next year YET they are keen to trade him in THIS year?!?

Isn't that exactly what happened with Redden and Wellingham?!

Why on earth would we trade for him now?!

I hope this trade period is not going to tip me over the edge into deleting account #2 and losing interest in the team territory.

Get FAs and then trade up the draft to get the best players we can.

I'd like to see a lot more activity with our trading of picks, future picks packaging up picks etc. Get right up the pointy end of the draft where there is the cream.

Also don't want us to look at the style of play of the dogs and tigers. It's ugly and rubbish. I want us to play a style that's great to watch aka Hawks and Cats of recent years. These scrappy games much like the Swans of 2005 and 2006 is hard to watch.

It's exactly the type of inept list management we've come to expect, sadly.

By the same token, one of the arguments for trading Gaff is that he becomes a free agent next year.

That's fine for the club holding the player.

I think we could land a pick 7 or 8 plus a 2018 3rd rounder for Gaff. We could turn that into a 2017 2nd rounder from GC.

So could a Higgins or a Tim Kelly / Worple or Matt Ling make the Eagles into a better side?

Higgins could play forward instantly in 2018 and Kelly could slot straight into the centre square rotation.

People saying Duggan needs to start as a mid next year but he lacks the power or break away speed to be a gun inside mid IMO, he could play as a winger though and be a pretty good one.

Or do we free up Yeo to take Gaff's wing? Someone who is more damaging with 25 possessions than Gaffs 30?

I just hope the club grows some balls and stop this half hearted list building process. Things haven't gone to plan boys so make some tough calls and get the exact type of players we need.

The only way I'd be happy landing Fasolo is for a deal that involves Masten or a Schofield trade. Schofield is right on the money IMO, a fringe but well credentialled KP back that Collingwood do need for Fasolo a half decent player with off field health issues of a type we are looking for but not desperate to pay overs for.

Are we actually targeting anyone another than fasolo? Anything more than a fourth round will be a joke for him. Is j Watts worth a look? I assume not
