we've had bigger hacks on our list for as long or longer. IMO we lack players with mongrel and physicality and it might not be a bad idea having him be around the ep guys or in our side. If he stays fit he'd keep someone like Cripps honest next season.

I only want him if we have a huge cull of senior players.

The standard shouldn't be "whatever, we've given worse players more chances".

Yes, he's got some nice features. They bought him 5 years at WC while he produced as close to nothing as possible. Should we give him 10 years to be extra sure?

Finally being at helpful at EP and keeping Cripps honest shouldn't be the standard, even for our rookie list.

I like you Vish but I am mad at your post.

If we have a massive cull of senior players, i don't mind keeping tunners for one more year on the rookie list. Play him in the guts for ep and potentially throw him in the seniors. A player like him would be beneficial in a rebuilding side.
Nah he's just a list clogger. Will never make it IMO

I actually don't want to use too many draft picks, probably 5 is about the maximum for me unless we get additional early picks in trades.

Probably better list management to have Wellingham or Hill as depth on a 1 year deal than a 6th round draft pick that is highly unlikely to make it and requires a minimum 2 year contract.

Instead of using 5/6th round picks, we might be able to pick up players with promise that have been crueled by injury or just been in a side with poo development.
Players like;
Josh Thomas
Taylor Duryea
Jack Trengove
Steven Motlop

The first 3 would cost bugger all, Trengove in particular is the one i'd like in that group, he's has a very good year in the VFL. Thomas also has a lot of potential, before the ban he had a 30 possie 3 goal game I think.

I watched Trengove's return game last weekend. He's all class but he's quite slow. Not sure he adds much that Redden doesn't already

With all the injuries now it wouldn't surprise me if it was a dead heat in a race between trengove and pridda.
Nothing worse than talented players being ruined by injury being forced to captain the biggest rabble in history at a young age

I wonder if Mitchell will pull the pin entirely and go back to Melbourne. He has seen our soft, yellow underbelly up close and personal and would likely be a walk up start at any Melbourrne club in some sort of capacity.

He might be wary of going down with the Simpson ship...

Doubt it after moving his whole family over...That and if he wimps out over one bad year then good luck to him.

Him getting some experience playing with our mids will help him next year when he gets to change up the midfield as coach! To me it always seemed like he was only going to play for a year.

Him in the team next year only stops a Venables, Mutimer or a Partington getting game and he will know this.
Plus he got to see from the coaches box Priddis in action and what playing a little bit too past your peak looks like.

I hope Mitchell to the coaching box is not the end of the rebuild in the box. Simpson needs to accept that we need experience and we never really filled the void from Pyke leaving.

With Essendon supposedly looking at WA Ink, I was thinking who else would gain from picking up Masten. Gold Coast? They would benefit from his outside game as they have the inside covered and they have huge points this year virtue of 4 second round picks. Always good to have two possible buyers.

What would it take for Masten to be a Bomber (assuming it is 2 genuine buyers)?

With Essendon I would be happy with their second for Masten and our third. This would value Masten at about pick 44 which is reasonable.

With Suns, have 4 second round picks currently 3 in low 20's and one in low 30. A similar deal with a second for Masten and our third would value Masten at a late 30's pick up to a mid 40's. Again, not a million miles from fair.

Another option is GWS. If they lose Kelly, they have showed last year they are prepared to take older players. Whilst they are down on points in the draft this year, any possible trade of another good player may get them back in the market.

Anyway, I would love to get an upgrade on our 3rd round pick and get 2 decent second rounders.

What would I do with say picks 10, 24 and 27?
10 - an inside mid and there are plenty to chose from at that level like Higgins, Clark, O'Brien
24 - a tall hoping that Naughton or Allen are still there or if not, go Sam Taylor as KPD
27 - another mid like Spargo, Worpel, Moore, Petrucelle

I am hoping Masten has value and we can cash in on it. Maybe just wishful thinking.
