I'd be expecting Lever in 4 years to be as good as McGovern is now, needs to put on a bit of bulk to be able to go 1 on 1 with the best forwards, in every other facet Lever is at least as good. Either way I don't actually expect us to get McGovern, just wishful thinking.
The big one, marking, Gov is well ahead. I don't think there's a better contested/intercept mark in the game than Mcgovern, Lever still has a fair way to go on that front as well as his one on one defending.

Looking at the list of top AFL players in average contested possessions and clearances, it's clear that the loss of both Mitchell and Priddis is going to hurt. I can see the club going after Andrew Swallow as a cheap stopgap, or possibly Rockliff if we have cash to burn. Neither are particularly inspiring choices, but there aren't many other decent options coming off contract this year.

In terms of what else we've got, Yeo, Shuey, Sheed and Redden are good contributors in those key areas (Yeo not so much at clearances). Hopefully Sheed and Redden step it up even more next year with more responsibility. Our list is pretty speculative from there on though (will Parto, Duggan & Venables get there? etc.) but we're not without hope, particularly if Naitanui can get into some semblance of form.

I like the (admittedly unlikely) prospect of Gaff + our 1st for Kelly though, as this effectively upgrades a wingman into someone who can contribute more at stoppages. If Gaff really has decided to leave (again unlikely but who knows) then this would be a decent outcome.

Gaff may leave, but he won't be going to Sydney. His mrs ran in the same circle as my mrs and she always spoke about going back to Melbourne when the right situation arose.

Could be that we do a three way with a Vic club to see that GWS get two 1st rounders. St Kilda, North, or Essendon might be interested.

Isn't she a Perth girl?

Yep, that's what I wonder. If we traded Gaff to the Bombers for their first rounder plus Myers and Colyer then on-traded their first rounder and ours to GWS for Kelly we'd end up effectively with Kelly, Myers and Colyer for Gaff and our first rounder. Not terrible.

Bit of an obscure market but it's an inland city, so the extra hours on the truck would certainly amplify the aroma.

There is a fish market there, it's not that far inland from Osaka as well, but I suspect Xsess was referencing Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo.

If we resign Emac for two years then maybe we could look at Schofield to the Cats for a third rounder?

He can come in and cover them after Mackie and Lonergan's retirement. He's also a Geelong boy and only 28 so he should serve them for 2-3 years playing Mackie's role.

As long as they're inside/outside contested bull runners I'll allow it.

I believe they're called big bodied hybrid mids now. They're all the rage since Freo started the trend when drafting Mundy for the half back line then arsing their way into a mid; everyone's doing it now.

If wce got Kelly in this scenario that would be great trade even if Myers stayed injured and Colyer was in and out of team ..

Any love for Aliir on here? Would be handy if we perhaps lose Schoey/Gorter. Still contracted for a year but shouldn't cost too much
