Yeah i also rate Menzel, if he could play 20 games a year he'd be on 700k
I think the reason there isn't more interest in Menzel is that when it comes to defensive pressure he is the single worst forward in the league. You can get away with it a bit more when you have a midfield like Geelong's but I don't think he'd be a good fit for us.

Menzel these days isnt that great. The problem is he's lost all lateral agility. Good in a straight line but both slower than Darling and worse on the turn.

Now a player who isn't that great but has had a decent career for Essendon is Ben Howlett. Grew up in a country town, went through the colts program with another player who was just as talented as he was and probably slightly more athletically gifted. Now Ben got the snub at the draft but put his head down, smashed out some great results in the WAFL, got drafted and has had a decent career. All through determination. The other kid is the same age, spent some time playing country football while going through Uni and has had 3 careers all before the age of 30. Watching them growing up (they are some years younger than me) you could see that determination in their mentality all the way through. The lesser talent has been successful while the other is a nobody.
Thanks Phil Howlett

If we got Jarrad Schofield and started drafting rookies out of the WAFL again then I'd be pretty happy. No more recycled dropouts from other clubs pls.
On staff do you mean? Is this at all likely?

Gaff in an interesting one in that he is a good enough player for us to go forward if we need to rebuild but he also has some currency to help with that rebuild.

Option 1: Trade him this year

- If a club was willing to part with a top 5 pick.
- Cripps wanted to come home. ( is the beast mid we need)
- Maybe Gaff for Acres and their first rounder. ( gives us two first rounders and a good young mid)

Option 2: FA next year where we will likely get an end of first rounder for him

- Next year we would have two first rounders in what is meant to be a stronger draft than this years ( this is said every year though)

Option 3: He sticks around

- He is young enough and a quality player who i feel could play solidly till he is 32-33 as he is very durable. So all we need to do is over the next few years is draft good inside players and maybe another winger to compliment him.

Is everyone set on not taking Motlop? Was a stage 2 years ago where it looked like he's read the competition apart, think he hasnt adjusted well to having Dangerfield in the side.

Is too easily tagged out of games but hell at least he's dangerous enough for teams to actually bother tagging him. Would be a straight up upgrade on LeCras as a forward and/or Masten as a midfielder imo, filling that forward flank with spurts in the midfield spot

Masten isn't best 22 atm so being an upgrade on him isn't saying much. Motlop would be in better shape than Lecras but Lecras has about twice the output in front of goals even with his poor season this year. I don't think he would be worth getting.

A no from me. Motlop is too inconsistent for my liking. We have a job to eradicate the "Downhill Skiers" mentality and he would be more of the same.

On staff. There has been talk that he may be interested in an AFL position now, having knocked it back in the past. Has done very well with Subiaco.

Stupid question time. Would people be interested in obtaining the out of favour Chris Mayne from Collingwood in these circumstances:
- LeCras retires
- Hill is delisted
- Collingwood exchange him for a packet of chips
- Collingwood agree to pay a chunk of his hefty salary, since it's their fault after all.

At his best he can help provide the sort of pressure inside 50 that we've struggled to generate all year, and Rioli, Karpany and even the messiah Ryan probably aren't going to have a huge impact in that regard. He can also be dangerous enough to command a decent defender.

I feel like I'm Mayne's old man trying to sell him to Buckley but I think under those circumstances he'd be worth a look.

No. Has kicked hardly any goals in the past four seasons. No, no, and no.

I think you should lose mod status for this suggestion.

Gaff is a senior player and apparently the senior players are all unhappy atm. Must be the Priddis thing again. Just what I've heard.

If true, do you back the coach and **** the senior players or **** the coach and back the senior players.

IMO boys club needs to go, back the coach

Gross.

I was thinking about this the other day and there's only one scenario in which I'd be willing to take him. It depends how untenable Mayne's position is at Collingwood (very).

Basically Collingwood would have to give us their second round draft pick. In exchange, we take on Mayne at $250-300k. I am assuming a few things there, mainly that Collingwood still have their 2nd round pick, and that it would legal (the 'consideration' for Collingwood would be the salary cap relief - that part I suspect may be a no-no).

Pretty damn unlikely but that's the only scenario in which I would want him. Collingwood are going to have to get rid of him somehow, and from Mayne's POV you'd think as long as he gets the value of his contract he'd be more than happy to leave now.
